This morning? A Dubl Duck straight razor and Speick shave cream. Dirty bird scuttle and a Badger Brush. Ain't life grand!

I use one of these:

12 blades really gives the smoothest, closest shave possible.

To the people suffering razor burn - stupid as this sounds - try showering right beforehand. I used to get too rushed / impatient to wait long enough in the mornings, and I'd rash it up often. Soak that stubble real good before slicing away.

I'm sure 99% of everyone already knows this, however I was that 1% that didn't get the memo...

Yes indeed, and the Proraso crema pre-barba is pretty good stuff too, especially the one for sensitive skin (in the jar with white top). In fact, most of the Proraso shaving creams and balms are pretty good, but I don't like their "crema liquida dopobarba". Much prefer the Truefitt and Hill aftershave balm.

For the cheap prices, Proraso is amazing. Wonderful Italian products.

I generally shave each night, rather than in the morning.

I shave in the shower every morning with a Gillette Mach 3 and Edge Gel. No mirror needed, I do it by feel..

I used to use Mach 3 but that assembly line is moving to Mexico. Fusion sold in the states is still made in Boston

Even better, shave IN the shower.

Side question: How often do you guys shave?

I used to do it six days a week, lately more like 3-4 days a week.

Thanks for the info. I'll pick up some Fusions on my next purchase. I always support USA workers when I can. Unfortunately it's getting harder and harder to buy anything made in this country anymore...

Side question: How often do you guys shave?

I shave every day I have to go into work, or doing anything where I'd rather not look too scruffy. If I'm off for a period of time, I usually go a day or two before shaving to give my skin a break. No more than two days though - any longer than that and I start looking like I just walked out from under an overpass. ;)

Right now I shave twice a week. After I head back to work following my time off, I'll go back to shaving every other day (and never on Saturday or Sunday).

It doesn't sound stupid at all: How to get that perfect shave (see the second Q&A). This is considered "the" shaving article. I've seen it linked to on many shaving-related sites/threads.

But for me, I find that taking a hot shower AFTER I shave makes it so I don't have any razor burn. I tried the pre-shave shower, and it didn't do it for me.

What I find is the best method for me, is that right after I shave, I splash cold water on my face to close my pores. Then I apply the alcohol-free aftershave balm. Then I take my shower, and then I splash my face with cold water once more before I moisturize with Nivea Soft.

If you frequently suffere razor burn try shaving while in the shower AFTER you've done the rest of your grooming, trust me its alot easier!

You see, I knew there was a memo that I didn't get - that appears to be it.

I had to figure these bits out myself, surprised how much I was doing "right", was afraid to discover I was doing everything wrong.

I think the other advantage of post-shower shaving - at least for myself, the bathroom is hot and humid, and your face stays wet far longer. I also notice my blades last longer now - I attribute that to the soft hair, and cleaner face being gentler on the blades.

I want to try the badger brush and old school lather, however I don't want to increase the amount of time I spend.

It barely increases the amount of time I spend shaving. Maybe 10 seconds?

I put a dollop of shave cream on my cheek, and I use the soaking wet badger brush to lather it up. I shave twice: once downward, and then I re-lather and shave upwards.

I do find that using the right cream and using the brush to lather makes a huge difference. It's really night and day from when I used to use the cheap Gilette shaving gel.

I highly recommend Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving creams.....you can even buy it on Amazon. I originally bought my brush, creams, and razor/brush stand from here: http://www.vintagebladesllc.com/

Ok, I'll bite. Recommend any particular flavor of that Taylor of Old Bond Street? There's a quadrillion variants of it, no idea where to start.

I'm nearly out of my canned stuff, so I'll give this a whirl.

Right now, I'm using the St. James Collection flavor, and I really like it. It's the first time I've bought that flavor, and I'll buy it again. I also use the Lavender and the Sandalwood.

I usually have a couple of flavors on hand.
