I think this is one of the biggest problems with getting deep into Apple's ecosystem.
Whatever the new iPhone looks like, whatever features it does or does not have, if you want/need a new phone, you have no choice but to buy what Apple makes. The only alternative is to move away from iOS, which I know a lot of people would be loathed to do.
And with the 12 month (or more) product cycle, (as well as faulty home buttons, intermittent sleep buttons, self-switching silent switches and crackly headphone outputs) this is why, whatever Apple produce, thousands will be queuing to buy it.
It's like when Apple decided to produce computers with chiclet keyboards. I absolutely hate the MacBook Pro and now MacBook Air's chiclet keyboard, but have no choice but to put up with it. I yearn for the day when they release a laptop with a decent keyboard (and USB 3!).
This is something Android and Windows Phone users enjoy - the ability to choose from numerous different makes and models of phones. If you have a GS2 and don't like the look of the GS3, you have the option to choose a different Samsung or an HTC, Sony, etc etc.
