up to a point. I was an apple person, but so disappointed in my iphone 4s, that I gave up on them and their tinny screens and got a galaxy nexus. I think I will get a GS3 as I find the nexus screen a little small for my taste. and there is no way apple will come out with a 4.5 inch screen like they should.

If apple wants to be ontop again they need to come out with a 4.5 inch 1080 screen this time around and not after everyone else already has one.

For you, most Apple fans believe iPad is the big screen and iPhone is the small screen and quite prefer a smaller device.

They've painted themselves in a corner with the 'retina' claim. They can't do a proper 4" screen and keep retina. This was their only way out. Now, they can claim: "see? we, too, have a 4" phone". Some innovators, that Apple.

Or more likely it's that they believe anything wider does not lend itself to being held like a phone. Did any company ever sit down to design an old-fashioned landline phone and choose to make the hand-piece over 2 inches wide? No, of course not. The ideal width that comfortably fits in the hand is considerably less than that, so why even consider it. The current width of some Android phones is an intentional compromise—where comfort and ergonomics are sacrificed to provide you with a bigger screen.

While I am disappointed by the aesthetics of this leaked design, I'm quite happy to see that Apple is not jumping on the giant handset bandwagon. The current width of the iPhone is about as big as I (with my man-sized hands) would like to hold. Apple also has to cater to people with smaller hands, so I think they have the compromise about right. Now, it might be nice to see them offer two different sizes, for consumer choice, provided they kept the pixel count the same for developers. That is where we can rightly be a little disappointed by Apple—that they don't offer a lot of choice. It's their way or the highway, whereas if you buy into a competing OS you have a lot of hardware choices.

It remains to be seen how they handle the taller screen. I suspect that they may allow developers to keep their apps the same dimensions, using either black bars top and bottom, or by using the extra space for something like a persistent Dock (unlikely), or maybe multitasking and notifications which don't cover up the app. But we'll have to wait and see. Obviously things like wide-screen movies will make use of the whole space.

Hoping this is fake

If this is the final design it seems like a weak attempt by Apple. I fear we are losing innovation on one of our favorite products, courtesy of corporate greed.

I'm still holding off any purchases till I go play with phone in the Apple Store.

At first thought I really want to be amazed and truly blown away here. But realistically I almost feel letdown if this is all we get after 2 years of the same design. It just really looks uninspired. I'll reserve final judgement until it gets an official announcement by Apple.

The more I think about it, the narrow design feels better holding up to the ear than a wider phone would.

Only so much can be done with the hardware aesthetics on the Iphone5. Its not going to be credit card thin or flexible. Perhaps carbonite, ceramic or Liquid metal.
Hopefully Apple has a surprise up yheir sleeve we don't know about.

That design is a bit of a let down, but I'll probably upgrade to it. (which, I guess, is what Apple is expecting)

We have choices, brother. I will not let Apple ride on my hard earned cash if the update is anything less than I need.

Who uses the phone for calling anymore? :p

Absolute BS design. A stupid move for Apple if the leak is accurate. Many people want a wider screen, and I will be looking at Tizen phones very closely as a result.

I bet they would look a lot better in you hands or if the pictures were like the pictures on Apples website (enhanced/shiny)..
Kinda like when there were leaked pics of the iPhone 4, and everyone thought the metal band was so ugly, but now it just looks just fine.:apple:

I personally like them though. :D

More than the looks I care about how it feels on the ear while talking and how well it fits in my hand for messaging and all. Plus it's an iPhone - it's like buying a BMW compared to a kia. You won't be disappointed.

I hate the new dock connector, and I wanted the same screen size, other than that it's fine. The dock connector pisses me off the most, as it's just going to be annoying for no reason.

Me too, I hope the new dock connector is just a BS rumor, really!!

I'm not overly enthused about the two tone, but it could just be the photos. I loved the iPhone 4 design when it leaked, and I still do now. I'm not dismissing this though, I think it has potential to look pretty nice, especially if the two tone looks is less obvious. Also, as a person with tiny hands, I really don't want a huge phone. My iPhone 4 fits perfectly in my hands, but holding my friend's Galaxy Note feels really awkward and I'm afraid I'll drop it. He has no problem with his larger hands though. I bet the screen size preference is related to hand size for more people than just me.

I'm not sure about a jack design that would require the iPhone be upside down all the time. As someone else mentioned, sitting in a dock on your desk would mean you couldn't use the headphone jack.

Yeah this is absolutely stupid idea, the headphone jack was fine the way it was.. don't fix something that aint broke.

Instead, fix the design.

Everyone needs to take a massive chill pill. The reality is you're looking at a stupid rendering which if history has anything to do with is NOTHING like what the phone will look like. These renderings are about as useful as tits on a bull, and to be honest I don't even know why people bother drawing them. They've NEVER been right or in my opinion even close to the final product. Remember the crazy renderings this time last year of the new iPhone 5 which tuned out to be a 4S :)

Apple are very good at keeping the phone under wraps until its released, and a leak of this kind would certainly raise a LOT of attention. Iv read nothing about a security leak and I can tell you that would make news as well as it has in the past.

If IVE is still designing, the phone will be impressive. Chill the ****** out peeps !

I'm concerned about that new dock plug. I have three dock/stereo units that my iPhone/iPods sit in. The new phone won't fit in any of them and I'm not buying three more to fit the new iPhone.
