I hope they didn't pay the advertising agency much to come up with that. All they did was a 5 second photoshop edit.

Heh. As if. These things take ages... and go through so many stages and meetings, mockups, focus groups on branding etc.

Personally, I don't think it's too bad, considering that the brief was probably about retaining the identifiable look and being able to vary it for different products. As with all these things, we hate it now... and within a year or two, it'll become accepted until the next time around when we'll all complain that the old one was much better. Also, until you see it used across an entire range of marketing materials, it's difficult to judge its effectiveness.

What was wrong with the old one? Looks old-fashioned and flat, especially for kids these days, the prime target new audience for soda, capture them early. Habitual buyers of Pepsi will keep buying it anyway.

Oh, I hear ya! You can tell who's not in the advertising business. ;) People don't realize how hellish it is just to do something this minor.

However, I do not think this logo was the way to go. I'd have rather seen them keep the shape and add some sort of dimension to it, sort of like what Apple has done over the years. The shape of the Pepsi logo was definitely iconic. And the new packaging is simply dreadful.

At least it doesn't look like the korean air logo anymore! that always used to confuse me at air ports!

It must be a night mare to use controversial logos with global companies!

its like the london 2012 all over again! but im quite warming to that one now.

The new logos: Pepsi, Pepsi MAX, diet, MTNDEW (as it's now called), Sierra mist, all are terrible. Yuck.

The new logo and can design sucks. The old logo was timeless, and this new one is just a attempt at something trendy, the can design will be out of style in 5 years or less. The sans serif thing is already looking dated. Disgusting.

i much prefer the new logo and more simplistic designs that they have. i don't like flashy things and i think simpler is better.

I read somewhere that it took 5 months and $1 million on the development of the new logo. I don't have any reliable sources sorry.

enjoy some old logos on white cans for looks

Great picture. Nice to see the logo transition.
(I hate the taste of Pepsi, btw)

3rd from right was pretty much a classic in my eyes. No need to change it.

Any marketing department that thinks that going from Mountain Dew to MtnDew is going to "capture the youth market" is in need of a good thrashing and firing. I can see these logos and designs being thrown about as potential ideas or starting points in meetings, but what asinine people approved this crap?

The what? The Ninentod Wii? WTF? Who is going to buy a console called a Wii?

No such thing as bad publicity, remember ;)

I got my first butt-crack logo Pepsid Cola today. The logo is even uglier in person.

I felt violated.

4th from the right. Classic, Coke-like, contemporary. I prefer Pepsi, and even for me it will always be 'Coke-like'...

All Pepsis will be Coke-"like," because Pepsi is quite literally simply a worse-tasting knockoff of Coca-cola that is only popular because of the merger with Frito-lay ;)

Perhaps I'm a bit biased, though...

The new look is modern, minimalistic, and clean.... That being said, I hate it. They've taken it to far and the end result is far to generic looking. In my opinion, they've needlessly diluted the brand in a misguided attempt to drastically modernize their image.
