What do you think the new iPhone will look like?

Like this:

Ya that is pretty much what it will look like but I doubt the HD. Video recording, obviously, but probably not HD.

The 4G iPhone next year will be an all new design and will open to all networks including Verizon and it will have iChat video conferencing. Mark my words! I will refer to this post in one year when I am proven correct! :D

So if China gets the iPhone, they're going to change from CDMA network? Or would Apple make a CDMA version now?

Honestly, I don't think there will be much changed on the exterior. If anything the back of the iPhone may be altered/updated some how but right now, there's not going to be much updated. I don't think you'll see too much inside updated as well. I consider this update a minor revision, imo.

I agree with you! and for the back I think, (and hope):D that they would implement the Matte... that way, it won't scratch that easily.. and it wont pick up fingerprints and smudges.... AND it wont slip from your pocket...;)

If they don't change the hardware significantly then Apple will FAIL. We need something major as the 2g to 3g was not a big change...Apple need to get this new iPhone back into the spotlight.

i think it'll be this year!.. apple will surprise us.
It's gotta be a much more bigger revision than 2g to 3g as in the string this revision will be called "iPhone 2,1"
as the previous version went from iPhone 1,0 to iPhone 1,1

i think the focus will be video

my guess is that it will have:

SOFTWARE
- iChat, iMovie
- Video recording

HARDWARE
- a better camera, maybe a 5MP and a 3MP at the front or two different models one with 5MP one with 3MP
- a front video cam.. for conferences etc... which works well for apple, it'll get alot more business's using iChat and macs
- matte backing
- it'll have crazy processing power etc, for video stuff, and to play better games to compete with PSP and DS, especially that Sony is meant to be releasing a new PSP at E3 and the new DSi just came otu
- also don't forget, it most probably will have a fingerprint scanner like the patent revealed

alot of goodies are lined up ;)

You can't be serious about thinking it'll have a front facing camera for video conferencing. Yesterday AT&T didn't allow an app in Apple's App Store to run on 3G or EDGE because it'd supposedly cripple their network. But you expect AT&T to allow streaming video between two people, which would probably be more popular than that app and use more data? You're really going to be disappointed.

Fair point.. but in England, iPhone is on O2.. and O2 have tons of phones that have video conferencing
3G has been out in Europe since 2003, damn it my first phone had a front facing camera, NEC, and i got that in late 2003.
But i get that maybe Apple will wait until Verizon to dish out the front facing camera, which seems pretty stupid as America is only a fraction of Apple iPhone market, with tons of countries ready to get on the bandwagon, it'll be interesting to see what Apple does

I am only guessing here, but I believe that it won't be a major upgrade. An improved camera, a bump on disk (16GB and 32GB), improved battery and maybe a small upgrade on the RAM (nothing great but well even 64MB more would be awesome)

I think they will mess with the CPU,GPU and RAM more on the next iPhone.

Anything less than this and I'm sticking with my nokia ;)

Of course, it would need a really thin keyboard design that's similar to the flat keyboards desktop mac's come with to give it that Apple touch but otherwise, I think this is the perfect phone design. A combined touch screen and pop out querty keyboard.

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no. People really need to stop hoping for a slide out keyboard. It is NEVER going to happen. If you want a slide out keyboard, go get a different phone.

I'm one of the supporters of bring on the front-facing camera in the next model, however, due to AT&Trecent actiosn I believe we won't see it until AT&T/Verizon roll out thier LTE network. Thus, we'll see the front facing camera on the 2011 iPhone model.

Don't start crying about how LTE will be relased next year, yeah in 2 or 3 cities. Apple won't release an LTE iPhone prior to a larger availablility of LTE service.

No offense, but I think you are a little up in the sky. I would love all those things just as much as you would, but they are not going to happen this time around.

Current 3G networks WILL NOT support iChat video that does not look like total crap and Apple will do it right or not at all. You think AT&T is blocking Sling with their 3G network but they could magically support millions of new iPhones iChatting? I DON'T THINK SO!

iChat will be the main feature of the 4G iPhone that will open to all networks in 2010 and what makes BOTH of those things possible is the speed and compatibility of future 4G networks!

Well here in the UK all networks allow 3G video calling. Its been around for 6 years and my last 5 phones (except for my iPhone) have had front facing cameras. You are right about the providers not wanting to overload their networks, but 3G video calling doesnt work like that. I'm with orange and you get charged by the min for video calls (with 30 mins per month included in your contract). It works just like call time. I would have thought AT&T could impliment such a system, which would get rid of the problem.

PS. it costs loads, which restricts the amount of data people are likely to use.

Well it won't happen next summer either. No 4G network will be deployed to the extent where it can be utilized unitl mid-late 2011. So you MAY see the 2011 iPhone with this feature.

Now, granted, the 3G network can and would support Video Conferencing; AT&T is concerned that EVERY iPhone user will all of the sudden start iChatting away and crash the network.

The same thing can happen on other networks. We just have to wait and see what the future holds.

I still have some hope that it will be an available feature on this upcoming model.

What's to stop Apple putting the hardware in this year, and then allowing the carrier to decide, or leave it dormant - not let people officially use it for video conferencing, or keep it wifi only? Some carrier's 3G is better than others, and could take it. The carrier could allow it only on high-end contracts.

Dude- that would be funny and awesome.

"Ok- no prob At. You are free to enable it at any time. Some people might ask about it though... anyway good luck with enabling it when you decide."

Bluetooth. A2DP ;)

For those knocking in 2009, having video chat, video recording app, dual cam, 5MP and a 3MP, crazy processing power -
you might want to check what's already planned for 2009. There are several phones that have this, bar the Tegra OMAP Snapdragon ARM whathave you, one of which is v. likely to come thumping down in Q3 2009.

If Apple is on a yearly cycle, are some people saying they'll have a minimal bump, and wait till June 2010?

We don't know. But if Apple isn't going to snap up Nvidia mobile chips - Apple better beware, because if they can't bring the power, another handset is about to cream them.

I just mean that can you imagine the PR nightmare ATT would have if there was little camera on the front no one could use?

About the other phone creaming the iPhone- I honestly hope it happens. I love my iPhone, and I would have a real hard time switching- but there needs to be competition in this space to drive innovation and price reduction.

apple needs to just put it on the phone. let us use over wifi.

Aye - least we can expect is 802.11n - Would be nice to do OTA syncing - Wireless syncing on teh same network, or more audaciously over wifi to a remote network with your iTunes on. All sorts should crop up - there's plenty for people to be both dissappointed and delighted.

My guess is that Apple will, for better or for worse, stick with plastic. Matte black, maybe glossy white or some other second option (maybe not).

Magnetometer, video recording, 32gb, faster GPU/CPU, more RAM. 3.2 mp camera vs. the current 2.0 mp camera. Faster 3G, faster wifi (draft-n).

So upgrades all around, but nothing game-changing.

i agree with u on this 100% we will see soon. i personally know 2 apple area sales managers but they arnt talking. either they know something or maybe they dont. but we all will find out soon

I think they'll definitely keep the front of the iPhone looking the exact same and they might(i think they will) add an iSight cam, but I actually think they'll go back to metal and stop selling the White MacBook so that all their products are alluminium, yeah they're was something wrong with the antenna and metal but I think apple will come out with something new that can handle the metal backing, I also think they'll have multiple colours and I obviously think it will be slimmer and I think they're going go keep that curved look

Here my two cents:

I think Apple will upgrade the iPhone with the matte back, faster processor, ram and 32gb memory plus a 3.2 meg camera.

Then, the one more thing will be the tablet which.....wait for it.......along with all of the cool multi touch uses, will also have all the other features that ppl think will be on the next iPhone ie. front facing camera, video recording in HD etc. Basically, what ppl r calling the iPhone HD will actually be the tablet with HD features.
