In our What to Expect guide that we shared yesterday, we went over everything that we're expecting to see from Apple in 2022 based on current product rumors and historical release data.

New iPhone 14 models with a hole punch camera and no notch are a possibility, plus we could see more powerful Apple silicon iMacs and Mac minis. The second-generation AirPods Pro are coming, and there's a significantly redesigned MacBook Air on the horizon. Rumors also suggest that 2022 is the year that we could see Apple's first dedicated AR/VR product with the launch of a mixed reality headset expected to cost upwards of $3000.

We know what we think we're going to see from Apple in 2022, but we want to hear from the MacRumors community. What do you want to see Apple release this year?

Are there new features you're hoping to see in iOS 16 or macOS 13? New iPhone features? What do you hope to get out of Apple's AR/VR headset?

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and take a look at our What to Expect guide for a look at all of the current rumors. We'll learn more about Apple's 2022 product plans during the early months of the year, and as usual, we'll have in-depth coverage of all rumors here at MacRumors.com.

Our MacRumors forums also serve as an excellent resource and community for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with a new product category and some exciting iPhone changes planned for 2022, or forums are the place to be for all Apple-related discussions.

Full featured, small, thin, light iPhone. I would be happy to pay more for it. AirPods that work as well as expensive hearing aids.

1) NO SOFTWARE BUGS AND ERRORS - 2021 was painful. Let's not have a repeat. Apple has been forgetting to cross its 't's" and dot its "i's" of late.
The more diverse Apple hardware is the more complicated it gets to check every software working correctly on each of the five OS's ecosystems that Apple supports. So everyone that wants all this brand new AS Soc's with even more OS functionality is in for a fun ride in 2022. Just try to provide feedback using the Feedback Assistant every time something irks you. Common complaints get noticed! ;)

Probably not popular among others, but I'd love to have the option of removing/hiding "suggested/trending/new/etc" from just about any native app, be in Music, News, App Store, etc. It's not about me not broadening my horizons, it's about me getting quick access to what I paid for/subscribed to. Besides all native apps now seem to cross/spill into one another, why did we dissect iTunes? To create 4 separate "iTunes" like apps?

  • High-Res Lossless AirPods Pro
  • iPhone Pro without notch
  • HomePod Max Pro (Dolby Atmos setup pairing)
  • Better speakers on iPhone Pro
  • Smoother Apple products handshake experience
  • Next-level version of Apple Music app
  • More refined volume controle
  • Deletion of Ted Lasso’s 2nd season
  • Tim Apple Placemat
  • Tim Apple cigars
  • Tim Apple strawberries
  • Tim Apple Whiskey
  • Tim Apple Wine
  • Tim Apple apples

What do I want to see from Apple in 2022...?

A M1 Max-powered Mac mini desktop...

An Apple silicon-powered Mac Pro Cube desktop...

A stand-alone ruggedized/extreme Apple Watch, one that does not require an active iPhone account for cell service...

An iPad mini Pro...!

This might be controversial, but I hope the rumored white MacBook Air fully commits to being a low-cost machine. As in... $500-700 base model, bulkier polycarbonate shell, decent but non-retina LCD like the 2017, skip the Touch ID and notch. Like the iPhone SE, give it the latest processor and OS updates for years, but maximize savings everywhere else.

Just call it MacBook as a throwback to the last time we got a white plastic one. Or even... iBook!?

As a university student, I would buy it immediately. So would my sibling in grade 11. And everyone else who can't afford (or doesn't care about) having a sleek status symbol, but wants macOS, good performance, and battery life.

It would meaningfully compete with lower-end Windows laptops for the first time in years, just like the SE is beating mid-tier Android phones.

A HomePod that is Wireless with rechargeable batteries, supports Dolby Atmos Spatial and sound improvement.

Or why else get into the game for smart speakers Tim Cook?

I want a new large iMac in 2022 so I can replace my late 2012 one. Hopefully in space grey or space black. No need for micro LED if that’s going to make it cost a fortune. Same processors as new MBP. Face ID would be very welcome, as well as lack of a notch. I would also be very happy if it didn’t have a chin and instead, was a bit thicker to hide the electronics behind the screen instead of under it. Or hide the electronics on a thicker base (as if a Mac mini was glued to the bottom of an iMac). The chin just doesn’t look good.

Another thing that is easy to make happen: my phone has the silence unknown callers option enabled but my Macs and iPad ring for every spam call. Why can’t they sync that option across devices? They made do not disturb sync so now it’s time to make the call options do the same.

I still don’t understand why apple hasn’t filled the huge gap between iOS and its desktop OS in terms of customizability and features. Apple has simply the best mobile hardware but it’s iOS where many feel let down. I’m finding that I grab my older pixel phone more and more to accomplish tasks that I can’t do on iOS.

Not trying to challenge you but what kind of tasks are you talking about? I hear people make this criticism of iPhones all the time but I almost never hear concrete examples.

The Apple Watch…..

As much as it is an outstanding device, it is starting to become a little bit lackluster in terms of the appeal. It offers plenty of health features, it’s a very diverse multi-faceted tool, but I do think Apple could continue to expand on the design, a tweaked revamp on the housing with maybe a larger variant, like a 48mm. I’m not sure if I think it needs to be ‘thinner’, but that’s some thing that Apple tends to refine as a product matures.

1) Higher end HomePod (mini?) to replace original
2) Apple Watch with more health sensors, especially BP (really have to upgrade this year)
3) Wireless AirPods Pro and Max with Apple lossless (will buy a set of each, if available)
4) Continued great iPhone (will upgrade this year) and iPad (need to upgrade) design and features
5) Mixed reality headset and software (willing the pay early adopter price in both dollars and features)
6) Continued iOS, iPadOS, MacOS, and tvOS innovation, like what they have done so far

Bought a new M1 Pro MacBook Pro, so no need for a new Mac.

Apple needs to take a step back and deal with the anti trust, and other political issues that are growing in volume. Apple has been stonewalling anyone that has raised questions, whether they were justified or not. Now that they have budged a bit on Right To Repair, they need to deal with Alternative Payment and their cut in the App Store. They also need to take a serious look at side loading. Not that I'm saying they should allow any of these things, but if they don't start dealing with the questions they are going to end up with solutions forced on them by governments. And we all know how well THOSE solutions end up working.
