I don't need touchbar but some will miss it. Make an app that mimics it on IOS devices so they can be placed next to a Macbook and used like a touchbar.

What I would love to see is a modernized Target Display Mode (TDM) for the iMac, and for any applicable Apple products (MacBooks, iPads, etc). This would allow “obsolete” machines to find a second life at their owners’ homes as primary/secondary/tertiary monitors. Apple has always prided themselves on the quality of their displays, and this would save machines from going into a landfill/to scrap, and it would remove the environmental impact of people purchasing additional monitors (probably from a non-Apple company).
This modernized Target Display Mode could be agnostic to the driving machine, as long as the proper “input” protocols were followed (i.e. a Windows laptop could drive an obsolete iMac in TDM, or even something as far as a gaming console could be attached to an A/V receiver that then outputs an HDMI signal to a HDMI-to-whatever-Apple’s-protocol-is dongle that drives an obsolete iPad in TDM).

Of course there would be some business cases for/against this move, but the environmental PR surrounding this move would be a huge plus to Apple.

Apple Silicon Mac Pro the size of the old trashcan. ?

and

Intel Mac Pro the size of the old trashcan (just in case my apps and plug-ins don't make the transition to AS). ?

They will eventually have to transition.
Right now some developers have the excuse "the pro macs still have intel", but by 2023 there will be no new macs available for purchase with Intel (maybe just a last intel mac pro).
It would be pretty ridiculous for a developer to release tools compatible ONLY with older computers...
It would be ridiculous.

An iPhone that doesn’t easily slip out of your hands. Tired of the ultra smooth design that is so hard to grip…. Which is also kinda pointless given you pretty much have to have a case on the damn things. So much money and effort into the outer shell and thinness and then it’s just in a $5 cheap looking case…. I miss the 5C

I’ve gotten to the point I’m just bored with apples design efforts. There’s only two reasons to upgrade an iPhone… 1. Camera 2. Replacing a dropped and damaged one (eg first comment above)

Apple Watch… it’s time to try something new apple…. Stale, dated, boring.

I love apple and I enjoy using my gear… but… it’s also so stale…

If it were still 2018, I'd have said "OpenPOWER". Since we're only a year into the ARM transition, though, I'll say "a 3:2 laptop" or "a Mac mini with removable M.2 flash storage" instead. I really like the 3:2 aspect ratio, and think it makes for an attractive laptop. Especially since Apple's all about productivity from what I hear (especially with desktop publishing), and 3:2 is a decent ratio for working with vertical content, but still provides a wide enough screen that widescreen content isn't too badly affected.
Also, an M1 Mac Pro with a case that isn't ugly. My fantasy world would be them reissuing the Power Mac G4 Cube and Quicksilver cases with M1 guts, especially so that the brutal massacre of Power Macs slows down, but I realize that's not going to happen and the miniaturized tower is about the best we can get.
Also also, maybe not including trackers with their OSes, and making the Do Not Track feature actually not track you. That'd be cool too.
Phasing out of notches. It's supposedly gonna happen on the iPhone, and given the backlash on the MBP I don't think this one will last more than 2 refresh cycles.
Considering most people cover their webcams anyway, and Apple clearly is not opposed to making people buy a separate product to replace inbuilt functionality in previous devices, it seems like it would be so easy to just not have a webcam in the MacBook Pro so as to not need a notch or pinhole at all, and as well you can get your smaller bezels while not sacrificing durability. The PowerBook G4 went that route and it paid off there, and Apple could just sell a separate iSight USB type-C Thunderbolt camera. Maybe even make it higher quality so they can get away with charging more for it to the people who need it, while lowering the barrier to entry by however many pennies the camera costs to people wanting to get into the Macintosh ecosystem.

In our What to Expect guide that we shared yesterday, we went over everything that we're expecting to see from Apple in 2022 based on current product rumors and historical release data.

What-You-Want-Apple-2022.jpg

New iPhone 14 models with a hole punch camera and no notch are a possibility, plus we could see more powerful Apple silicon iMacs and Mac minis. The second-generation AirPods Pro are coming, and there's a significantly redesigned MacBook Air on the horizon. Rumors also suggest that 2022 is the year that we could see Apple's first dedicated AR/VR product with the launch of a mixed reality headset expected to cost upwards of $3000.

We know what we think we're going to see from Apple in 2022, but we want to hear from the MacRumors community. What do you want to see Apple release this year?

Are there new features you're hoping to see in iOS 16 or macOS 13? New iPhone features? What do you hope to get out of Apple's AR/VR headset?

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and take a look at our What to Expect guide for a look at all of the current rumors. We'll learn more about Apple's 2022 product plans during the early months of the year, and as usual, we'll have in-depth coverage of all rumors here at MacRumors.com.

Our MacRumors forums also serve as an excellent resource and community for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with a new product category and some exciting iPhone changes planned for 2022, or forums are the place to be for all Apple-related discussions.

Thank you to our readers and our forum members for making MacRumors the number one site for Apple news, rumors, and advice on the web. MacRumors celebrated its 21st birthday this year, and that's all thanks to our dedicated readers. We look forward to another year of rumors in 2022. Happy New Year!

Another thing that I want to see from Apple this year (2022) is more iCloud storage space. Two terabytes is no longer enough, especially given that MacBook Pro laptops can be configured with up to 8 terabytes of solid state storage. As many other people have noted, Apple needs to give us customers an amount of space that is the total of the storage space of all of the devices that we have. For Example, I have a 768GB MacBook Pro laptop and a 512GB iPhone. Therefore, Apple should provide me (and all other customers) with enough storage space that equals the MacBook Pro + the iPhone, for free. We spend lots of money on our devices, and it feels a bit violating to have all of these extra costs attached to what is already a huge expenditure. Apple needs to give us more value for our money.

1. Third-Party Apple Watch Faces

2. HomePod - redesigned with a screen

3. 30-32" iMac Pro

4. Cheaper Apple Pro Display

5. M1 Max or M2 Mac Pro

6. Redesigned Apple Watch with more health features

7. Final Cut Pro updates, including iPad support

8. Redesigned Finder (window management, search, getting rid of legacy and outdated items)

Take home seriously, have a new big HomePod I don’t need a monitor on it and then develop stuff like door bells and locks yourself or get another company onboard and promote it like your own product integrate it.
At this point I don’t think there’s much to be done with iPhones, watches etc that can have a big impact. Home can.

A new wireless chip/Bluetooth standard implemented to allow both low latency and higher bandwidth for losses Audio streaming.

A few monitor options to include low cost 60hz monitor and higher cost 120hz promotion monitors.

USB-C on iPhone

A high end non-upgradable Mac Pro in a square form, maybe 3x the size of the mini. Super beefy specs but no room for add in cards or more ram slots or whatever, would be my perfect system.

A16 & M2 which will be ARMv9 instruction compliant

A USB-C/TB3 or TB4 to Apple Ethernet adapter

What I would like to see is two more years of security updates for Mac OS.

Five years is reasonable for new OS versions to run on old hardware. But only two more years of security patches really isn't. Desktop hardware lasts a decade easily. Having to toss out old but still usable hardware just because you can't trust the OS anymore isn't very green.

I have Mint Linux 19.3 running quite happily on a 2009 mini, and that is still officially supported for another couple of years.

For that matter the Quicksilver 2002 still runs just fine, excepting the web browser with Ten-four-fox being EOL. But supporting a 20 year old machine would be asking too much.

My main box is Linux on a Ryzen PC. It used to be that 2009 mini. The current mini is too port poor for use. I have 6 USB things plugged into the Ryzen box now, and with a mini I would need two more to support the DVD drive and the backup drive.

I also agree with all those people begging for better quality control. Fewer features, more bug hunting and fixing.

I would like them to pay attention to a growing number of users suffering from PWM sensitivity. This needs to be addressed!

If there happened to be a sub $2000, 32” ish Apple Display released, I’d snap one up actually. Otherwise all good with what I have.

(I know it's not a new device or anything, but this is my simple New Year's Wish.)

Monterey Calendar alert snoozing back to offering more than ONE HOUR of snooze time. Let us choose in prefs what time ranges we want and how many to display. Plus ideally having a user-defined option at the bottom for X minutes, Y hours, Z days. Yesterday. Please. #usability
