So many fantastic wants in this thread.I hope Apple reads this one… and acts on many of these. Contrary to the terrible put down sometimes attributed to Apple, consumers can know what they want before Apple has to show it to us. I’d love to see a lot of this.

My own top 10 wishes:
  • Snow leopard-type year or two, focused on “just works” bug fixes vs. new sometimes-gimmicky features.
  • Return to taking the U in USB seriously. I can’t believe “unexpected ejections” of USB hardware that remains reliably connected on Intel Macs is still a thing. Yes, I know this is covered by bullet 1 but it means so much to me, I wanted to give it its own bullet.
  • See bullet 1 & 2 😉
Just those “3” would be enough for me in 2023.

However, if there must be more…
  • Adopt USBc across the board- jettison lightning at last
  • MB air 15”
  • Ultrawide monitor with KVM hub, a better mix of standardized jacks than Thunderbolt only, and more than one input for old fashioned bootcamp with a separate PC for those that need it.
  • Continuity camera or equivalent for AppleTV and the biggest screens in our home.
  • Standards-based SSD and RAM expansion options revival. Apple pricing is too high. Let it be tier 2 storage and RAM so we can still get the fastest proprietary configs but also have modestly slower expansion of both with standardized parts. Those focused on speed can pay the premium. Those focused on price can trade max speed. Those that want to expand over time would have a way that doesn’t involving dumping the whole computer.
  • iPad mini Pro with iPhone MAX cameras and reviving the headphone jack so we can hear that lossless music quality.
  • Surprise & excite us with “the next iPhone”-level product launch, whatever that may be.

Jinx.

Snow Leopard year. It’s time.

Apple TV with built-in (hard-wired) HomePod-esque sound bar with Atmos capability. Current HomePods use way too much WiFi bandwidth. We need a way to get HomePod quality sound without the flakiness of the current AirPlay/WiFi connection to the Apple TV. I'm almost at the point of buying a third party sound bar to replace the OG HomePods I currently use for default audio output from my primary Apple TV 4K 2nd gen.

And for the person who asked for AAPL at 180, why stop there? How about AAPL at 200 or even 250. Dream big!!

Hey it's a consumer wish list thread, not a reality one. If reality: Make everything more profitable for Apple Inc and similar... build additional vaults to hold the "record revenue & profit" to come... pay the executives even more money... keep all focus on delighting shareholders and only throw us consumers some bones when it serves AAPL. ;)

An iPhone SE mini with the SE 3 internals but the size of the original SE.
A 12" MacBook with M2 or M3 processor or whatever generation is expected next...
Please :)

- 15" air
- reduced price for RAM/storage upgrades - especially storage. So painful if mom just wants to keep all her pictures.
- dual frequency gps in all iPhones, not just the pros
- all iPhones start getting cpu upgrades
- wi-fi 6e in macbooks
- av1 hardware decoding on M3 chips
- return of the mini

Of these I think we see the 15" air + wi-fi 6e and that's it.

A monitor that is actually capable of displaying 8K streams. You know, those things Apple brags that it can edit multiple of in real time, yet still can't actually *see* them in their reality.
To match the PPI of other desktop Macs, it would need to be about 41”.
Apple recommends a viewing distance of 20”-30” for their monitors.

The issue with ever increasing sizes of displays is that there is increasing disparity between the viewing distance to the center to the screen and the distance to the corners of the display, and the corners of the display will be viewed from steeper angles.

Let’s calculate based on a 24” viewing distance to the center of the display:
For the 23.5” iMac, the corners of the display will be about 26.7” away, at a 26° angle.
For the 32” Pro Display XDR, the corners of the display will be about 28.8” away, at a 34° angle.
For a 41” display, the corners of the screen will be at a distance of about 31.6” away, at a 41° angle.

One way to partially solve the issue is to curve the display, but video editors probably won’t want a curved display.

Just buy a Sonos Arc and move on. Way better sound quality than HomePod and the Arc does everything you want (and more) today. I don’t see Apple releasing an AppleTV/Soundbar device. The HomePod was a total fail sales-wise and I doubt an Apple soundbar would do much better. Apple has totally blown it when it comes to home audio. They keep dipping their toes into the market and then retreating instead of committing.

I also think the idea of converging AppleTV with a soundbar doesn’t make much sense. People who just want a soundbar have to pay extra for Apple TV features they don’t want. And vice versa. I’m sure there’s a small market for a hybrid device, but I bet it’s a lot smaller than the original HomePod market.

I hoped for many years that Apple would get serious about home audio, but I’ve totally given up on them. Apple tends to go after markets where they can improve upon existing options. There’s really no way they will deliver a better solution than Sonos.

I still have a Series 4 Watch. I’m hoping for a compelling upgrade this year.
Maybe a mood ring sensor? 🤪
The v1 AW Ultra is compelling as can be for folks who like that kind of watch. More than twice as good as my previous AW7. But of course YMMV; I came to AW after years with a Seiko dive watch.

2023:

The mixed reality thing feels like the car project and the TV project. Just R&D money that will never yield a product… or, at least, the product you expect.

What I would most want to see this year is an AppleTV-size, fanless Mac Mini. I’d also like to see flat glass come to the smaller Apple Watch. And a return of the iPhone mini. Basically, I want all the nice things to get smaller. I bet on Apple doing none of those things until at least 2024, however.

Software wish: make alpha sort for apps a toggle option instead of default to the atrocious organization that is App Library. Also make the dynamic island tap behavior a toggle option. Basically continue to provide more customization wherever you can.

My wishes are modest 🤓:

1. Continued software updates for OG HomePods
2. 16” MacBook Pro with Jony Ive era thickness and weight
3. Small form factor iPhone Pro model (5.4 - 5.8 inch screen size) — if not keep iPhone mini in lineup

Apple Headset, realityOS and find out what input methods they decided to use for these.
I expect the headset to meet or exceed the specifications of other consumer VR headsets currently available.
My main concern is input. While I’m sure whatever input method Apple chooses will be great for controlling the OS and first party apps, I really hope the controls are robust enough that current VR titles can be ported over without any compromises to the their control schemes.
The rumor mill has been very quiet lately when it comes to controllers. I expect that the OS and first party apps will work with hand tracking alone.

iPhones bringing back the physical sim tray
I’d rather have it removed from all remaining iPhones. In the U.K. they still have the simtray and I don’t want it: it takes up space, it slows down esim adoption and it makes water proofing harder.

You are almost certainly right about this, which is why I’m probably going to have to jump ship. Unfortunately, I’m deeply invested in Homepods (3 pair of OG HP and 6 minis), so doing so will be a big disappointment. Sigh! The OG HomePod had so much promise. ☹️

2022 was the worst year for software and hardware I want apple to get back to making products that make people wanna jump out and buy not minor updates that make no sense
