The Retina display..

I don't really understand what the concept of a retina screen is. Can you see it?

After looking at my 4S today, I think I saw the "Retina".

And now...I think I know what it is.

If you stare real hard for about 15 minutes while looking at the screen with both eyes wide open, you should be able to see the retina. I saw it once last November. It was awesome!!!!!:D

I don't see anything more or less special then a normal LCD screen. My eye are good (require no correction) and I've never had any strange effects with different types of displays (dlp or been effected by epilepsy).

So my view of the iPhone is quite boring vs your acid trip.

IF I would of been drinking milk it would surely be shooting out of my nose right now.... LMFAO.
What if it was whiskey?
I keep trying to deny it, "Oh no, I'm just crazy," but I pulled my phone out once again, and I'm positive I see pixels so small that it's creating a grid. It's like a wave when viewed from different angles.
Some of that sounds like moire effects, which are not dependent on high pixel counts. That picture you posted later could possibly have been some of the electronics of the capacitive screen, or pixels. It's really not that big a deal, get close enough and you will certainly see the pixels, it may not be possible with a human eye, but they are certainly there.

I might add that the retina display does not have the highest density by far. An LCD projector has a 1920x1080 display in less than an inch. Once blown up to 120", it's really pretty easy to see the pixel structure.
I can't believe you guys are actually responding to this wind up. haha

*facepalm*
Some people juggle geese. Baby geese, goslings. They were juggled.

Don't take away people's fun.

I bet this is what it looks like close up.

It's the digital glitter. I see it. I really see it. I BELIEVE!!!

You and me both, man. This is friggin' hilarious!

Not even close.

All it looks like close-up are pixels that are more densely packed than most other screens. But it's still just a bunch of pixels.

ohh

...Then what I was seeing was- ...it couldn't possibly have been...

Huh. It really was all in my imagination.

'__'

Well, don't quote me on this.

Assuming the OP wasn't high, it could have been microscopic drops of condensation creating a moire-like appearance.

Everytime I convince myself that it's just pixels, I keep seeing it again.

But I think it's something else.

I think if you look at it hard enough you can see it though...it's like a...I don't know how to explain it..

You are not supposed to concentrate and try to make out the pixels. You are supposed to use and enjoy your phone. It is clearer than most displays out there, especially more than the 3GS.

Well, yeah

Retina display is an optical phenomenon. Much like rainbows. I wasn't told to look for it, I just saw it. So you kind of just have to let it happen.

Looking at your iPhone, and then coming back to old world laptop displays- makes everything look so old fashioned. My Windows 7 is as pixelated as ever lol.

This is 326 pixels per inch while an ordinary Windows 7 laptop is a mere 86.47 per inch. They'll add more. Up the ante. And the iPhone will be just the beginning of a revolution of superior displays. I'm ready.

Somebody stated that from a "reasonable distance" you can't see the pixels. Which was like what? 20 inches? The thing is, nobody holds the iPhone 20 inches away from their face. Nobody.

It's always less than half arms length. You can see the every pixel. And if you think you can't- look again.

At 10 inches you can't physically distinguish the pixels. So no, you cannot see every pixel

But they're there. You can see them.

If you asked me, is the iPhone screen pixelated, I would say yes.

I use the phone 5-7 inches most of the time and 10 when I'm being generous.

All this time I thought I was seeing retina, but it's just pixelation. I've been deceived.

You weren't deceived. Nobody said you were seeing "retina", which is just a made up standard by the way. You bought a retina display, distinguished some individual pixels, and assumed it was this retina thing you'd heard about.

I went on an elephant safari once. First animal I saw was actually a giraffe. Had I never seen a giraffe, I may have assumed it was actually an elephant. That conclusion would not have been a result of deception, but of my own ignorance.
