Breast milk. Moving over to cow's milk just isn't the same, and soy milk don't have the quality tits that cow's are naturally endowed with. So fake.

Nice...It does make one wonder who the first person was to look at the cow and say, "Hey, that could be good" - Cross species nutrition - the alternative would be quite disgusting though - all those poor women being milked daily for the nourishment of the masses :p.

German food.

I have spent a good amount of my life in Germany and my entire family is German. The German wursts (weisswurst, bratwurst, gelbwurst etc.) and not that fake Americanized crap we get. Mezzo-Mix, TRUE Fanta, German bread, jagerschnitzel, etc.

It makes me sad that you can't really get this stuff in America other than at a true German deli which will end up costing you a FORTUNE. :(

I went to the US for a week (I live in the UK), man did I miss cadbury's chocolate. Hershey's or whatever its called is absolutely disgusting :(

Also unless they've changed recently, the mcdonalds in the US fry their food in a fat that is banned here because its so unhealthy. And every mcdonalds I had there had a manky aftertaste. It was cheaper though.

I also missed good english tea, American tea was bad, they sold English tea however they put the price up huge because they knew that we would buy it.

There are some great places to eat in the US, however thanks to my stupid tight school I didn't have one good meal while I was out there. In fact the mcdonalds was probably the best.

C'mon, all McDonald's is unhealthy:p. I'm not proud to say I've eaten it in many countries (always in desperation) including England and the US, and sure it's different...but it's just a different kind of bad; locals are accustomed to their particular flavor of McDonalds bad, but that doesn't make it good. In my experience--and I know that's just one person, not a representative sample--I've found English food to be as processed and bad-tasting as low-end American food; I've never seen a general lack of fresh fruit and vegetables than during my time in England...and it all costs a fortune! At least in the US there are things like Whole Foods and Wild Oats in most cities, if you go looking. Besides that, I guess eastern Poland was on the same level of unhealthiness, but that was a matter of economic reality; the US and UK have no such excuse.

I'm a McWhore. I love my McDonalds food, and I'll actively go out and search for it in every country I go to. I miss chicken wings for less than $2 US dollars in Hong Kong. Oh, Korean Bulgogi burger with rice buns in Taiwan were also fantastic. Buns made of rice are surprisingly good.

Nice...It does make one wonder who the first person was to look at the cow and say, "Hey, that could be good"

Um......he was only a half-relative. :(

I miss the Syrian flat bread that my Grandma used to make for me every time I would come to visit. She passed away three years ago. :(

I am from Seattle but go to school across state. Seattle has great fresh fish, sushi and teryaki and I definitely miss that.

What I really miss though is Italian food (as in, being in Italy and eating their food). The food there is so good, its amazing.

I thought this thread was about foods that are out of production.

I miss PLANTERS Brand Cheez Balls. There is NOTHING that comes close to them.

iBlue I'll send you tamales if you send me hot cross buns and malt loaf. Oh and curly whirlys. Tamales and sourdough...and maybe a box of trix. ;)

White Castle. The town I live in doesn't have any :(

I miss White Castle too! I used to live in NJ, and moved to VA, and there are no actual restaurants in the state. We can get frozen, but they suck. Nothing beats a fresh Slider, Belly Bomb, Rat Burger etc, etc.......

As for other stuff I miss:

Kaiser Rolls - They wouldn't know a real Kaiser Roll down here if I threw it at them, actually most of the bread down here sucks :)

Entenmann's - We only have like 3 varieties of Entenamann's down here, up in NJ you can get like 100, heck I used to live like 5 min from the Factory Store! I want my Ultimate Crumb cake dammit!

and most of all....

DINERS - It's no a specific food, but I miss Diners in general. Where else can you get anything you want to eat at any time of the day or night.

Im sure there's more, but I can't think of any right now

Sigh.... I miss NJ :(

Don't get me started. :(

(I'm a californian living in london, england. It's a long ways from lot of the foods I know and love)
-- list of stuff you know and love --

But you've got awesome Indian food over there. That's got to be worth something, eh?
Well I'm coming over to London in a few weeks and I'd be glad to bring you a jar of peanut butter... :)

Well that's true.
There's lot of good stuff, just sometimes you do want what you can't have.

I'll manage on the tiny jars here but thanks for the offer. :)

<-- Guess.

When I am away from Japan, I miss my sushi. Japan is definitely the best place for sushi, bar none.

SOURDOUGH bread.
Same here.

There is no good Mexican food in Tokyo...I've looked and looked. Not even a good market in which to buy the basics. Very little good french food either.
If you are talking inside the Yamanote line, then I would tend to agree.

An exception would be Vest's. Vest's is decent. Good food and nice atmosphere.

If you are talking about inside Tokyo, but outside of the Yamanote line, then Mike's is pretty good.

As for what I miss here in Japan:
- Home grown Black Angus steak
- Mr. Pibb
- And any American food that has been Japanized. It just isn't the same.

Even moving to Canada from the US has made me miss things I didn't think I would have to do without:

Cherry Coke -- c'mon Canada! You have every other kind of Coke product...why not this one?

KFC potato wedges -- I don't want bland generic fries! I want the big thick crispy wedges covered in the same breading as your chicken (which is also different here and not in a good way)

Terra Red potato chips -- mmmmm...olive oil and herb....

Yuengling Lager

Oh, and as for poutine, NO I don't want gravy and cheese curds on my fries! I just want ketchup (must be the Pittsburgher in me)

I've never had sushi in Japan (hope to one day) but your avatar and username always make me crave it. :)

maybe if it didn't look so realistic...

Yeah but outside of a few food items NJ sucks. I need to get out too. Can you get Taylor Ham/ Pork Roll in Virginia?

Though I totally sympathize with nearly all the posters here - who bring up great examples - I find it funny that the OP that started it all had a relatively weak complaint.

I've been all over both US coasts, and Mexican food is not all that different in either location...
