Path of Exil 2 Early Access: Act 2 ATM but I'm kinda getting bored at the game and don't know if I want to keep going the game play is fun but the interface feels lacking. It's incredibly buggy to join online games using a joystick, the trading in this game is really hard to understand and QOL(dyes, bag sorting, etc.) things in POE1 for some ridiculous reason doesn't carry over to 2. Not only that but the online matchmaking needs serious work.

Performance:

Mac Mini M4(emulated) - 25 FPS on default settings @3440x1440, scaled to 2560x1080 with everything on medium/low the FPS goes up to 40-50 fps but can drop to the 30s. Very playable, this is using Kegworks which is kinda like Crossover or Whiskey but free and open source. I heard this game runs better on crossover beta.

Ryzen 7 7800x + 4070 Super(native) - 70-80 fps and can drop down sub 60fps @3440x1440 with everything maxed out.

There is a native client coming soon for MacOS GGG said hopefully before the official release date.

Edit: for anyone still interested in playing POE2 while we wait for the official native app, I've tweaked a few things that made this game run pretty great for me on the stock M4.

Renderer: DirectX12
Mode: Full screen
VSync: Off
Dynamic Resolution: Off
Resolution: 3440x1440
Upscale Mode: NSI(Intel XeSS crashes the game)
Image Quality: No Scaling
Sharpness: N/A
HDR: On
Texture Quality: High
Lighting: Shadows only
Shadow Quality: Low
Sun Shadow Quality: Low
Number of Lights: Medium

This runs at 50-60 fps using any wine wrapper software. I don't have Crossover, I missed the sale but I hear that there's almost a 15-20% boost in FPS. With the native app I am sure we can turn up the settings by a lot, that being said with this configuration not only does the game look decent(emulated) it runs pretty smoothly. In fact it runs so good I am just gonna play it on the Mac mini, no need to turn on the PC at all.

The full guide on how to play Path of Exile 2 on MacOS can be found here.

I love supporting Kickstarter games ... but never play them in Early Access for the reasons you mention. Last week I got the key for Swordhaven: Iron Conspiracy (from the Atom RPG team) ... no intention of playing until it is fully done.

The Thing: Remastered

Bought the original in the day, was wanting to play it again then the remaster dropped. If you like the original, you'll like the remaster. Still fun to play and being a fan of the films is also a factor as the game is considered cannon and ties directly into John Carpenter's The Thing (1982).

Love it all! Bloodlines is another of those 'hard to exactly rate but definitely a top 5 all time' games for me. I replay it at least every few years mixing up clan and gender. This year was another female Tremere run.

And I do have the soundtrack on my iTunes library (with the entire Deb of Night included)!
I would love to have the sound track! 😁

I have no clue where I got it back then whether it was a CD included or ...?

But on YouTube there is a video with all of Rik Schaeffer's stuff anyway.
The complete OST was never released to the public, however someone very talented reached out and created a bootleg... which exits and three hours long, lot of music in VTMB.

Same here, VTMB is one of the best RPG's ever. Working on modding it again, dont want to change the gameplay or overall atmosphere of the game as that's what makes it special.

Played some more of The Thing. Then worked on VTMB more, very close. Probably as good as it's going to get without tipping stability.
  1. Base GOG game on Unofficial Patch 11.5
  2. A.I. upscaled 4K Textures
  3. No Intro Videos - barring Troika Games
  4. Main Menu - prefer standard as the 4K texture mod replaces
  5. HQ music tracks, HQ audio/effects WIP. Sounds killer as the music has gone from 128kbps to 320kbps
  6. Posters Mod - just prefer
Maybe a few more tweaks, but at the size limit of the Materials folder. Go past 8.6GB game will likely crash as you change location. Maybe look at resolution scaling. This a game well deserving of a remaster, however I dont see that and likely wont be remotely close in this overly politicly correct day & age.

Just have to figure out on to seperate the audio from the video… 🤔

Maybe the long version you mentioned did that already?

Basic album is a available on most streaming services. The full OST that's linked is over 3 hours, you'll need to follow the breadcrumbs...equally it does exist, all 48 tracks.

Was produced from a mix of the original artists WAV files and other lossless sources by an audio engineer. It's a bootleg, always was, always will be as the full OST was never released nor ever will be.

All the tracks are in the game in mp3 format, however at a low bit rate of 128kbps, nor are they mixed for music reproduction.

but there's more to the OST than this...

Jan 2025-
  • Mass Effect: Legendary- Includes the first 3 games. It’s ok, but a bit dated. I’m still on the first game, so I can’t vouch for how much it changes to the third game.
  • Conan Exhiles- I read that they come out with a Age of Heroes patch, that your thralls (slaves) act much more life like, eat, sleep, move around, instead of being glued to their work stations, and that they are adding companions with quests to win them over. More in the Conan Exiles thread.

Unimaginably is a mod for Quake running on the Ironwail game engine...

Links for Slave Zero X & Ironwail 0.8.0. The game engine is not compatible with macOS, best bet for the Mac is to try vkQuake. The mod itself will easily integrate into the retail Quake game including the enhanced version on stock game engine. Being standalone there's no requirement for the original game. Those into this style of shooter should definitely check Slave Zero X out, is very polished, fast & furious and a challenge.

The Ironwail engine is highly optimised, far faster than any others I've tried. Going literally from hundreds to thousands of FPS. So if playing Quake Ironwail is certainly worth a look at as it has many other features. Other than that playing The Thing, Enderal, Radiophobia 3, VtMB and a spot of Doom 3...

I played it last year 2023 on my Steam Deck and found that Mass Effect 1 & 2 held up really well in terms of game design and narrative ... but I really hadn't played all the way through since they were released so not sure about my expectations. Skipped the third game because once was enough :D

Quake Enhanced
Almost went through the game in a single session. Quake has always been a firm favourite of mine :) Have both the original and enhanced installed as while the new enhanced version is a lot better it lacks the dark moodiness of the original.

Looking at source ports see if can drop the brightness a little, however it's baked into the maps so maybe not. All the same a cracking play after all these years. Also time with the epic Quake based Slave Zero X full conversion, just gets better the more you play. Running the mod on the Ironwail game engine, so far is flawless. Will be installing on my W10 tablet soon, even with basic specs from 2016 expect very decent performance from this engine.

Update Slave Zero X runs on the vkQuake game engine on the M1 Mac, and for those that prefer the darker tone of the original games is also possible.

No love for Doom (2016)?
Have, I just dont own. Will catch it on a deal sooner or later. Have a lot more including total conversions such as Total Chaos which is pretty wild, another notable is My House.

Just missed the boat with Doom 2016, was a high point with work. Have to say Doom Eternal is one, if not the best FPS produced. The game will intelligently challenge you. Have to constantly think on your feet, learn the enemies & maps. Once you get into the groove what a blast this game is  Challenging, but I like that :)

Also big into Quake, be rude not too... LOL

I think Doom 2016 is the better game. Less FPS platforming for one. Might just be that I bought Eternal on Switch though. And can't be arsed to play through it again elsewhere...

Definitely one to pick up though!
