You guys do realize that most of your wishlist items can be achieved via Thunderbolt peripherals. External SSD boot drives, external GPU's, etc. Give it some time.

Good point, however my nice all in one machine and tidy desk will be ruined by multiple external devices, all buzzing away with flashing lights, and introducing cables everywhere, they will probably all require additional wall plugs as well. If i am going to go down this road i start to ask myself why didn't i just by a nice PC tower, which can house everything in one box, at a lower cost, and neatly under the desk... this is where the idea of the iMac falls down if it needs so many external things connected to it to make it better. Is it a laptop or a desktop, or neither... What are we trying to make it become?

1) Easily configurable SSD or 64GB ssd as default instead of 1 TB hd.
2) Free apple care
3) USD 3 port as default. Considering they are backward compatible, dont see any reason apart from arrogance for not giving this.
4) Blu ray disc

O no not cables on your desk and small external hard drives with a small led. You better sell your iMac now

What good is an all in one then? Apple is just as clueless. Spend all that time designing the best looking computers and then destroy the looks with forcing buyers to use non matching third party external devices.

A little internal expansion in something other than the $2499 Mac Pro would be great.

Things on my "next model" list.
- A physical screen size in the 24"-26" range. IMO, the 21.5" is slightly too small. The 27" is slightly too big. I would like to see the current 21.5" design replaced with a 24-26ish range screen. And, perhaps the current 27" can increase to 32/36" - for the folks who want something larger (for their home's wall).
- USB 3.0 inclusion - since external HDDs are now USB 3.0.
- 1/2" deeper case - for more air flow ventilation (due to more and more items being jammed into a tight box).
- To reduce heat, I wonder if its internal Power supply should be made external. My HP laptop has an external Power Supply brick. Thus, leaving more air flow space and "less heat" inside the tight all-in-one case. Note: If huge cooling savings from external Power Supply brick, then leave the iMac case thickness the same.
- Using Ethernet card that allows the use of jumbo frames - for much better media streaming.
- Allow both internal and external speakers at the same time. Simple setting inside its system Preferences. If I remember correctly, sound is either internal or external - not both.
- internal BluRay would be cool. Especially for the iMacs that hang on a wall - where external devices (like external HDDs and external BluRays) would be difficult to connect.

For included software, I would like to see:
- Settings for its Webcam. See 3rd party iglasses utility.
- Settings to view heat and fan rpms. See 3rd party istats nano.
- Ability to change menus and text to larger size - without distortion. Windows machines have DPI Scaling (96 dpi is normal / 120 DPI is larger size). Apple needs to have DPI scaling using a single control setting - instead of using 3rd party TickerTool and still getting graphic menu distortions. If I remember correctly, previous version of Mac OS had this feature. They need to bring this feature back - especially with larger screen sizes, and folks wanting "simple to use" settings.

Free Applecare would be great as well. Since many companies (like auto, appliance, computers) make huge profits on extended warranties, don't think Apple will change their money maker. But... Offering a 2 year "base warranty" will be better then current 1 year.

These are my items....

The iMac isn't that much different than most notebooks. Sure, you have a display panel to deal with when you crack open the iMac, but you can get around that. FWIW, I don't think the first run of Thunderbolt peripherals look too bad (G4er?, avert your gaze):

a yellow-free screen and without dust/fingerprints

:D

the reason i went with non-mac is that the imac have mobile GPU, if it has a user replaceable CPU and GPU i would buy a 21.5" low end and fit a i5 2500k and a sapphire 6870 1GB

This definitely fits that category. Better than that i5 2500K or just "6870 sapphire"

- USB 3.0 inclusion - since external HDDs are now USB 3.0.

I wouldn't mind this now since Thunderbolt products are almost non-existent or really expensive.

This would be nice. I realize a lot of people like the all-in-one package but I'd rather have better heat management.

I believe the new iMac's support Jumbo frames.

The attached picture pretty much sums up what I think about external power supplies. This is the power distribution strip for my Mac Mini Server, external drives, AirPort Extreme, and my router -- a tangle of 7 power supplies that didn't come in their products.

Life Quotes

Here I would like to share one life quote, which I found in 1-love-quotes.com/quotes/category/Life. Browsing this web you can learn a number of life quotes.
"I like the dynamics of life, I like it when it rains, and suddenly the sun comes out, and I like it when it's really silent and then a loud booming noise comes through. Or vice-versa." By Serj Tankian

My iMac is still very new, I've only recently got it this week. I'm extremely happy with it. The only two things I can think of improving on the next refresh (as of right now) is:

  1. A screen that doesn't show fingerprints/dust so often. This drives me crazy. Even with mine being only 4 days old. I'm a bit OCD about fingerprints.
  2. A USB Port near the front of the screen, or even on the side. I've managed to "accidentely" unplug my external HD pretty much every time I use it, and its inconvenient in the back. As well as the headphone jack.

Haven't had an issue with the yellow-ing screen, yet. I'm kind of wary about it. Hopefully I wont.

Yes but that is quite a bit of heat you are keeping out of a cabinet or your devices.

Need a redesigned IMAC. Smaller bezel, solving of the Yellow screen problem, HDMI port, option of a 64gb SSD for boot up. Not to much to ask.

What I'd like to see in the next refresh:

1) Ivy Bridge CPUs
2) AMD Radeon HD 7xxx series GPUs (7970 for high end iMac)

That's about it. 4.2GHz i5 quad-core SB CPU and a 7970M 2GB for me :D

Too much heat. And no room for a desktop GPU in even the larger 27" iMac. I'm pretty sure though the CPU and (mobile) GPU in the iMac aren't soldered to the board, so you could remove them and replace them, although that's incredibly risky.

To answer the OP question honestly: Nothing!

I just bought my first Mac ... 2011 27" i7 and I absolutely love it. I will certainly not need anything better soon, but if they do refresh it, It would just make me like mine a little bit less ... Or it will just cause an itch to get the new one, which Would be totally unnecesary!

I would like to see for the next revision in 2012

Ivy Bridge CPU 'will happen'
USB 3.0 'Pretty sure on that'
7000 series GPU from AMD 'will happen'
BluRay 'I doubt it'
Matte Screen 'doubt it'
Wireless Full Size Keyboard option 'doubt it'
24-32GB of Ram Option 'maybe'

Good list, agree with most of that.

24-32GB of Ram as an option from Apple will probably cost $5,000

Except i doubt USB 3.0 will happen, Apple as a company don't want to give you choices, they want you to use THEIR technology, in this case, Thunderbolt. All those thunderbolt accessory manufactures are going to annoyed if people just go and buy cheaper USB 3.0 versions.

GPU will always be limited as its a Mobile GPU... never going to compete with Desktop PCs. Faster GPU is always nice though, but if its gaming you desire, should you be buying an iMac in the first place?

Blu-ray would be great, but Jobs wants us to buy everything through itunes.

Matt screen and front facing USB would be good, but its always going to be design over function with Apple. They want you drawn like a moth to the shiny shiny, and that means lots of gloss and silver!

You forgot things like an iMac maybe without a yellow screen, maybe we will get this in 2015's model.

Don't touch your screen. It isn't that hard. I like the glass, you can clean it easily (water, the cloth that Apple provides with the computer).

Reviving this old thread....

1: Better GPU's. THe current ones are quite bad for gaming. Gimme AMD's 7000 series with support for Direct X 11. (most games use this)

2: Faster CPU's. I don't have the latest iMac so i don't know just how fast it is, but this is a wishlist. So i guess i can go ahead and request a hexacore card as stock with maybe a octocore option.

3: Better 1080p camera. Also built in flash. And good low light performance. This would be great for Skype and screen casting.

4: Retina with maybe 3k res

5: Matte screen.

6: Changed screen options. e.g, get rid of the weird 21.5 and 27 inch and bring back the great 20 to 24 inch displays. With a top of the line 30 inch option.
