  • Ivy bridge, with lower power consumption (95 to 77 watts)
  • Why not top-notch? current imac came with fastest available mobile graphics...

i like the idea of the magic keyboard

What I was basically saying by "no top-of-the-line graphics" you basically confirm with "fastest available mobile graphics". The iMac is a Desktop, but they won't put in fast desktop graphics because of the power consumption.

I threw the idea of a "Magic Keyboard" in their because Lion does work best with a track pad, and a Magic Keyboard is more minimalist, fitting with Apple's design aesthetics.

everyone seems to talk about a 24 inch screen alot. But if they do they wont make them 16:10. Apple is going to keep it at 16:9. So that means that they will have to find a resolution that will fit that size.

I heard a poster say the new iMac he guesses would come in March is that when Ivy Bridge is released?

Unless they do a nice redesign and introduce some better cooling.

no chance for desktop graphics, at best we'll see crossfire, and thats highly unlikely...

but have you seen the specs for the 7970M, those things gonna scream, why do you need desktop graphics with 200w+ power consumption (7970m is 65W)

if we get the 7970m in the next refresh with ivy bridge, and match the height of the current thunderbolt display, my jaw is going to drop to the floor

They're cheaper, I guess. What's the 7970M based off?

i wouldnt bet that they are cheaper, look at desktop/mobile cpus...

probably on desktop hd 7870, but i read somewhere that mobile 7970 will be totally different chip, not even close to 7870, but im not sure thats correct

but nevertheless, its gonna be one hell of a gpu, and will be released in february 2012, so im absolutely positive it will be in next imac...

look at wiki amd gpu comparison, and compare it to 6970m, HUGE difference with 10 watts lower consumption, as good as it gets...

Alienware has it on a M18x

And that's a LAPTOP ;)

At the risk of necroposting this, i had the Alienware mALX "laptop" with SLI video cards. The fun part of this video set-up is that it puts out so much heat that the motherboard fried in 14 months. My replacement was a MBP .. never been happier since I left the Windows world. (Also my Alienware Aurora desktop (also SLI) fried in 13 months which pushed me to my iMac.)

It does seem good, it's a likely candidate.

Actually, it does. The AMD Radeon HD 6850 costs about $150, yet the AMD Radeon HD 6970M costs $500. (It was about a year ago that I checked.)

It costs a lot, I suppose, to get the same performance with a much lower TDP.
