If no MBP is to be announced (and available to order immediately) in that 2-hour presentation tomorrow, is it safe to assume nothing will happen until few months later and act accordingly?

fine by me. my mid 2017 13 inch MacBook Pro is going strong for me and have no reasons to upgrade for a few years.

If anything gets an upgrade, it will be the iPad and maybe my iPhone

Nothing is safe to assume anymore. It would be a first for Apple to wait that long for a simple refresh (not a redesign), so who knows what they're up to. If they don't announce anything tomorrow, I expect it to be in October, with a keyboard redesign at least, possibly more (screen, battery, ...?)

Depending on what they are going to announce, tomorrow could be a wake-up call for us long-term Apple pro-users to switch platform.

FRom the reports on the top page, doesn’t sound to have anything interesting at WWDC.

WWDC is about the software, you can't blame Apple if they don't announce hardware it's a World Wide developers Conference with IOS, MacOS and so on NOT a consumer event. Yes they do live stream it because a lot of consumers like to watch it in order to see what features will be in IOS and MacOS, i'm one of those people but i certainly don't blame Apple if they don't announce hardware at this event.

Interesting for whom?

WWDC stands for World Wide Developer Conference. This is a week long conference where developers come and attend workshops, learn about new technology or APIs and find ways to improve their coding. Apple typically showcases their up and coming versions of macOS and iOS (they may provide the attendees betas as well) and so I think for developers its quite intersting and engaging.

Apple in the past has used the keynote to release hardware, but they seem to be getting away from that in recent years.

Here's a list of hardware announcements. I posted this in another thread but I was able to dig it out. The link has the list up to 2014 and I googled and updated the list to 2017. So while in the past Apple had used it as way to unveil new hardware, apple seemed to be moving into a trend of focusing on software..

Source (up to 2014)
  • 2004 New Cinema Displays
  • 2005 Announcement of going to intel
  • 2006 Mac Pro
  • 2007 No hardware
  • 2008 iPhone 3G
  • 2009 Macbook pros, and iPhone 3Gs
  • 2010 iPhone 4
  • 2011 No hardware
  • 2012 MBA and rMBP
  • 2013 New Mac Pro and MBA refresh
  • 2014 No hardware
  • 2015 No hardware
  • 2016 No hardware
  • 2017 iMacs, MBPs, iPads

Just got a MBP 13" at work last week. They gave me the option to wait but if they release an updated keyboard and/or quad core CPU, I might try and swap them over and let a new starter have this one :p

I will never go back to Windows. Tired of the weekly updates, reboots,Microsoft screwing up the updates, etc. I switched to Apple because of Microsoft trying to ram Win 10 on users. Good Bye Microsoft.

I have to interject here.
My gf has a 2015 MacBook pro and it is ALWAYS updating something and then proceeds to give you an annoying popup in the top right that you dismiss but then comes back at a random point.
It seems that Office, Adobe etc always need updating but it doesn't do it in the background by itself like Windows does, it insists that you interact. It also loves to just sign you out of iCloud every few days and then not let you do anything until you sign in, unless you can stand the popup being always there!

Sure I get that Windows 10 itself has a rather hyperactive update addiction, however I personally don't find it annoying as I just reboot when it asks me to and job done! I might get an update every few weeks, it's not exactly a hardship to reboot. It's the people that just dismiss the updates each time are the ones that get annoyed/shocked when it reboots itself on its own after they've dismissed it 10 times. Then, "shock", it's doing it again as there's another update that's just arrived, and the process repeats itself. People use this argument when talking about Android and saying that Apple updates its phones all the time and it's great for the consumer. Windows does the same and it's apparently an issue?

As someone that uses both operating systems on a daily basis, Windows 10 is more than a match for OSX, and in a lot of cases a lot better for efficiency. Don't deny yourself a potentially better experience because you're a luddite.

You are right but we can blame Apple for putting that rubbish keyboard in the MBP, later than other manufacturers in the industry to release laptops with the latest components, removing useful features, making the MBP too thin to be able to function reliably while nobody is asking them to do so, turning the company into a phone company, etc.

Yea you can but that’s not a WWDC thing is my point unless Apple decide to make it one. Also latest component’s depends on what Apple is holding out for, that recent benchmark claims 32GB which isn’t available in the current MacBook Pro’s, is Coffee Lake ready for Apple? Also fixing the keyboard issues could also be causing delays.

At the latest I expect October, at the very earliest today’s WWDC and Mark Gurmsn is wrong which I highly doubt!

One thing I don't understand is why other manufactures can make laptops with 8th gen CPU, 32GB or even 64GB but Apple can't. What are the reasons?

well the store isn't down yet so I don't think any new hardware will be announced today...unless it's too early for the store to go down.

I don’t think it will, people are getting their hopes up and then when no hardware is announced they will come on the forum, complain and blame Apple it’s what happens nearly every year (except for last year because they updated a lot of hardware)

Because as far as I know Coffee Lake doesn’t support LPDDR4 so no 32GB Ram, that’s what makes me think that benchmark that leaked is either fake or it’s a Hackintosh. If Apple wants to add 32GB option they will probably have to wait until Q4 of this year for Cannon Lake. From what I can gather anyway.

Isn't Coffee Lake CPU already out and other manufacturers have already released their CL based laptops?

Yes but Apple may be waiting for Cannon Lake because of the 32GB Ram option which you can’t get at the moment.

What I'm not looking for is all the complaints in the forums afterwards about no hardware being announced. It's WWDC, focus on software/Apps, IOS, MACOS, TVOS, & WatchOS.

I agree 100% I’m just waiting for the comments of “that was boring no hardware” and “Apple are doomed” they are usually the classics, just because there was a lot of updates last year doesn’t mean it can be done every year.

My MacBook Pro suits my needs just fine. I may need a larger one next year if I land this new job, but today I’m perfectly happy with my 13 inch touchbar.

Apple is probably going to wait so they can release one with 32 GBs of RAM. I remember people really complaining about that one.

Their only other option to get to 32 GBs would hurt battery life and make the system hotter. I guess Apple could make the MBP thicker, but that’s not going to happen.

For WWDC, I’m hoping for security and stability updates. I don’t think we’re getting hardware at the software conference this year. I wouldn’t mind being proven wrong because I do need a new iMac.

Don't know why even I replaced the thermal paste, it is still running hot and the fan is spinning loudly. Not doing anything intensive, just visit Macrumors. The base is so hot that the skin of my laps turned red and one of the rubber cushions fell off since the glue was melted.

That would be stupid even by apple's standards. But they may have also been totally unprepared for the heat and power draw of CFL 6-core chips.

Could be wrong but that’s my guess, the Apple store isn’t down and with Mark Gurman’s article from inside information I’m taking it as there are no new products today. Personally I’m ok with that, it’s WWDC not a usual hardware product keynote.
