Could be wrong but that’s my guess, the Apple store isn’t down and with Mark Gurman’s article from inside information I’m taking it as there are no new products today. Personally I’m ok with that, it’s WWDC not a usual hardware product keynote.
Its still up, so yeah its not looking good for hardware.

Me, I'm dispapointed as I've been planning on a new laptop this summer. At this point, why bother stream the keynote. I mean if the argument for NOT having hardware announced at WWDC is because its a developer's conference (and I'm not disputing that), then why stream it live.

I’m due an upgrade as well my 2011 MacBook Pro has been playing up but I don’t think we will see those updates here.

I still like them to stream it tho because i like to see what they are doing with the software side, MacOS, IOS and WatchOS especially and I think that’s why they do it.

What I don’t get is why invite people like iJustine and tech bloggers if they have no hardware to show off?

You probably do not need to stream it, but a lot of developers will.

Even without hardware announcements there are new development tools, payment policy changes, etc. that effect developers workflow and income.

My MBP cannot even play Youtube videos now. Lots of lags and often while I hear sound, there is no change in image. As I type this post, there are also long lags before the words show up in batches.

Don't know why even I replaced the thermal paste, it is still running hot and the fan is spinning loudly. Not doing anything intensive, just visit Macrumors. The base is so hot that the skin of my laps turned red and one of the rubber cushions fell off since the glue was melted.

If you are training ML models the system is going to run hot, fans are going to spin at max rpm to try to limit the amount of thermal throttling. Just get used to it. The CPU is going to use all cores at 100% for the entire training time with can be tens of minutes depending upon your data and model.

My 2011 Mac Mini has no problem doing Youtube videos and typing text with many programs opened. Ouch!

No training nor use of other applications. Just browsing and posting on Macrumors. Need to buy a new computer this week.

Thanks for your experience. Perhaps just buy an ultra-portable and build a workstation.

Then buy it! Why not get a Razer Blade or a Dell XPS 15? You could then report of your experiences. Many would be curious.

Latest Razer Blade 15" is out of stock. Besides concerns about spying, Matebook Pro X is also out of stock.

I have to interject here.
My gf has a 2015 MacBook pro and it is ALWAYS updating something and then proceeds to give you an annoying popup in the top right that you dismiss but then comes back at a random point.
It seems that Office, Adobe etc always need updating but it doesn't do it in the background by itself like Windows does, it insists that you interact. It also loves to just sign you out of iCloud every few days and then not let you do anything until you sign in, unless you can stand the popup being always there!

Sure I get that Windows 10 itself has a rather hyperactive update addiction, however I personally don't find it annoying as I just reboot when it asks me to and job done! I might get an update every few weeks, it's not exactly a hardship to reboot. It's the people that just dismiss the updates each time are the ones that get annoyed/shocked when it reboots itself on its own after they've dismissed it 10 times. Then, "shock", it's doing it again as there's another update that's just arrived, and the process repeats itself. People use this argument when talking about Android and saying that Apple updates its phones all the time and it's great for the consumer. Windows does the same and it's apparently an issue?

As someone that uses both operating systems on a daily basis, Windows 10 is more than a match for OSX, and in a lot of cases a lot better for efficiency. Don't deny yourself a potentially better experience because you're a luddite.
I work in IT and the windows 10 auto updates thing can be very dangerous. Had many a computer (including my work PC) which has been bricked by a dodgy update and requires a complete reinstall. Plus on my home PCs (like my media centre), I might only use it on the weekend, but because it autoupdates, I often have to wait upto 1 hour before I can do anything on startup. Although now I just use to registry hack on my PCs so they don't auto update anymore. So I much prefer the Windows 7/Mac OS way of doing updates.

But on the original question, I normally get a new Mac every 4 years, although have had my current MBP for over 6. Apple just doesn't seem to have anything that is that much faster than my current model (in the past an upgrade has given me 2-4x speed increase). So will probably wait until they start selling laptops with 6-8 cores.

I've lost faith in the MBP. I'm due for an upgrade (currently use a 2013 MBP). I've been holding off on upgrading to the 2016/2017 versions.

My usage has changed with me getting by with a gaming PC, iPad Pro, Windows Laptop (work) and Macbook Pro.
Of all those devices, I use the MBP the least.

I'd say most of my usage is btw the iPad Pro and gaming PC. I use the work laptop on my telecommute days.

I'm considering trying a Pixelbook at this point. It is more than capable of meeting my usage needs.

Ah, right, and the 4K model isn't even out yet... For the Dell, its 2+ weeks wait.

Chatting with a DELL agent. I asked him to find out the dimensions and weight of the AC adapter. He gave me info of the laptop. I asked him again and he told me that he has no idea. He said that he is from system sales and have no such info. Asked him to transfer me to tech support but he said that tech support can be reached only via a phone number. He just sent me a so-called manual that does not list system specifications in details. Meanwhile, he keeps asking me when I am going to buy the computer. Looks like he is more interested in selling that providing customers with informed information to make a decision.

Well, I wouldn't really expect any good service/support from almost any windows laptop manufacturer. They all seem so bad in that regard. At least in my experience.

i hope they at least update something. i don't want to buy a 2017 version in 2018, and i need one soon. hahaha :(

If pre-sale is like that, what will happen if I have bought their product and need support?

We can stay in a temple for a year and come back. Even so, Apple may not update the MBP. Maybe they just wait for 2020.

People’s wants and needs change. My sister has a Pixelbook and she really likes it. I can’t imagine spending $1000 or more on a browser based laptop, but she’s more concerned with portability and has a pair of large work laptops for the other stuff.

I’d prefer a MacBook or the rumored Air if I was in the market for an ultraportable, but she doesn’t care for Macintosh. I try to avoid Windows when I’m not at work and I don’t really care for Google. Everyone is different.

Get the computer that you think works best for your particular needs. If you’re thinking about a Pixelbook, you don’t really need a MacBook Pro anyway.

I have never had good luck with Dell support. I have found them to be completely useless and talking to them is a waste of time. It’s usually easier to find the answer yourself.

Just visited Apple website. They seem to have changed the presentation of the MBP product site but not put it off.

How long have you used DELL? Not sure if my first DELL experience is just with an individual bad agent or they are generally bad.

I’ve had various Dells over the years and most of the PCs in my office are Dells. My personal Alienware Alpha is 3 years old and anytime I’ve talked to support it’s been an excercise in futility and I had to figure it out on my own. (Their Alpha UI is completely broken and getting it off my PC was a journey.)

In my experience, Dell Support is terrible and they’ve always been terrible. No one is particularly good, but Apple is typically the most accommodating and even their quality of support isn’t what it once was.

If I ever decide that I ever need another Gaming PC, I’ll just build it myself. I only play Age of Empires 2 and World of Warcraft, so I should be good for quite some time.

I know it was terrible 20 years ago but their customer services moved to top 2 recently.

Big difference between consumer and enterprise support with the likes of Dell and Lenovo. They're not perfect but much better than their consumer support which manages to be awful. Apple aren't perfect either, much of the positive view of Apple is because of their network of stores even if they end up sending your device away for a couple of weeks.
