PowerPoint is superior by standards alone. More people have windows then macOS and for school I’ll need PowerPoint

I dont know about rest of the country, but silicon vally is mostly google docs. I think unless you need power features, nobody else will be buying office products in 5-10 years

The problem is that a lot of manufacturer's are dropping in the new Intel CPU architecture (both six core and Vega releases) without a full redesign. The Thinkpad T480 was on the list but appears to have issues. Ditto the XPS 9570 which already had throttling issues with previous generations and now has a six core CPU and GTX 1050ti. What a surprise the new XPS is using the same thermal cooling solution and is throttling. I ended up disassembling both my previous XPS to reapply thermal paste and deal with overheating VRM's.

I'm probably going to go for a Dell Precision 7530 with a six core because it's large enough with a decent cooling solution to not try and defy physics.

This one was the most disappointing, first to find out it had throttling issues, and secondly they didn't make any allowance for the heat generated from the 6 core PCU. Razer however went through a major redesign and their laptop uses a vaper chamber instead of heat pipes, and that looks like is doing a better job at thermal management.

True, I've been considering the new Razer 15 as well as it has vapor chamber cooling. The drawback with it is that the case itself acts as heatsink so the laptop is very hot to touch under load.

Yes, here's Lisa Gade's review and she backs that up as well. Its possible to change the power profiles to reduce the heat which will allow the laptop to be used on your lap (for non-gaming activities).

I'm all but locked and loaded to get this laptop, it has everything I want and while there's a handful of drawbacks, those drawbacks are not show stoppers.

In the review, Lisa seems to mentioned that one could change the refresh rate of the LCD panel from 144 to 60Hz to save power. However, Razer tech support told me that it cannot be done. Who should I believe?

This laptop seems good but I have read that after the extended warranty (totally 2 year of warranty including the extended one), Razer changed a lot for repairing the components. I think it is in one of the comments of Lisa's review. I am concerned.

So, the old 2015 MBP is still a good buy? The latest MBP I used at work was 2014. No issue at all.
There is a thread about heat issues with non-touch bar 13" 2017 model due to one one fan. Do touch bar 13" and 15" 2017 configurations have these issues? If I go for the 2017 model, do I also have to choose i5 instead of i7 due to potential heat, noisy fan and throttling issues?

Considering the Lenovo T480 and X1 Carbon 6th gen but they also have heat and thermal throttling issues. Really annoying. Know any descent laptop with 8th gen CPU do not have these issues?

The T480s without dGPU. I would actually buy it, but the quality of the trackpad and the keyboard in the X1 Gen6 ist still a little bit better. So i still hesitate.

Given that the review showed you changing the refresh rate, I'd say I'd beleieve Lisa. Its possible the support tech was unaware of all the features of Synapse 3.0 (which is Razer's newest app to control the laptop). Other reviews mentioned altering the refresh rate as well.

Razer Support also mentioned that Windows OS is not installed in the SSD but "embedded" in the laptop!

They're probably referencing a recovery partition, either way, I'm not really worked up about it.

More cores, same lithography, more heat, nor is Lenovo the only OEM looking to power throttling as a solution. My own Asus S7BS (GL703GS) with 8750H also has a very substantial cooling system.

Lots of fans & copper, noisy at full bore yet once the cooling system is spun up a 3 hour stability test CPU didn't pass 70C

I'd be wary of their warranty. Their customer support is on another level poor. The common advice I see is to buy this from the microsoft store so you get their "applecare" which is pretty great.

MS store only has 1 year of extended warranty as well.

Just watch.

Apple will launch Macs with Intel's 8th gen processors right before Intel releases the 9th gen processors.

Intel probably gives Apple deep deep discounts for buying outdated processors.

TC only cares about profits. We just make any predictions about Apple’s moves based on that.

I've read about the CS, but it seems latest trend is that its improving

Use some of that 'Apple tax' savings to order a properly repasted and backlight bleed tested Blade at HIDevolution.com.

I've got the itch myself, but I'm going to hold out a little longer. Maybe we'll see 11 series Geforce or a hexacore MBP by the Fall.

I don't think apple are doing as much wrong as everyone is suggesting. The biggest mis-step they made with the new macbooks was the touchbar and perhaps the keyboard.

There are always going to be junctions in fast moving tech where a company has to decide whether to push the future or keep one foot in the past and apple decided to go all in on usb-c. I'm personally glad they did.

The touchbar was a stupid idea but that was apple trying to innovate for the sake of it. They had left the old design so long that they felt they needed to do something special to justify it when people just wanted an updated chassis, tweaked design and top spec components.

The complaints about a lack of 32gb ram are a bit ridiculous. Without making a fat laptop that was a lump to carry they couldn't stick 32gb ram in there. People had been using slower RAM and processors for years to do their work and they were suddenly claiming the new macbook pro wasn't pro anymore because of a 16gb ram limit.

Most of their customers don't need 32gb ram and would rather have a slimmer, lighter laptop that is still powerful. My 13" mbp is an amazing machine. Portable, powerful and generally amazing. I would change the touchbar for a standard set of function keys and I would give the keyboard a touch more travel but apart from that its amazing.

You won't please all the people with changes and this place is full to the brim with whingers, people who don't like apple and people who just like to complain for the sake of it but most people with the new macbooks are happy with them.

Razer Blade 15 2018 is thin and user can upgrade it to 32GB. Don't know possible heat and fan issue though.

The MacBook Air and MacBooks line are for those who want thin and lighter laptops. Apple messed up with the MBP line. They seem to be merging the lines stupidly.
[doublepost=1528721625][/doublepost]What does SL in MBP 13.3 SL/3.1GHz/8GB/512GB mean? Does it has 1 or 2 fans?

An Apple employee suggested this model. I tried it for two weeks. As I did not like the keyboard and the Touch Bar, I only used it for YouTube and web browsing. Did not try any other programs on it nor moved any of my file to the laptop. It was very quiet and no heat issue when playing Youtube video. Not sure if it would have issues with heat and noisy fan if I run CAD.

Plenty of people travel and work so having a professional spec laptop that is portable is very important. I couldn't use a macbook air or basic macbook. They would do my head in and aren't fast enough.

If the razor blade 15 2018 has design issues then you can't really offer it up as a competitor to the MBP 15. This is what everyone does. "Oh the macbook pro is rubbish, poor spec etc etc" then proceed to give 4 different laptops that all beat the macbook pro in one area like that proved their point.

The razor blade is thicker, heavier and with worse battery life than a macbook pro 15". I'm not saying the razor blade won't suit people more than a macbook pro but I don't understand how people say that laptop X is so much better. It all depends on your priorities and also how much you like/need macOS.

The size difference is rather small with regard to the razer. To your point I believe the razer is a more robust laptop then the current MBP.

In helping my purchase decision, I made up this this matrix. The MBP is a 8 ounces lighter, i.e., half a pound. The display is subjective for me because I prefer matte and want the faster refresh. The MBP has higher resolution (against Razer's FHD but Razer has 4k where as apple doesn't). The MBP has a brighter display. In terms of processing power, GPU, storage, keyboard (not shown), ram and battery size Apple loses out. I will say Apple is able to squeeze out more hours out of the box then the Razer but from my research it appears fairly easy to get 10 hours out of the razer with a handful of tweaks.

While this is subjective, to me it shows the razer beating Apple in nearly every category.

Edit: Dell wins some categories, or ties with Razer but from my research I've exluded them. They seem to have a throttling issue, so that's not something I want to deal with
