They have no idea nor care that their phone is 64Bit either, but it is. It's a poor argument IMO because I couldn't give a damn what light users think or do. If the most expensive smartphone on the market is dumbed down and aimed at technophobes then I should probably think about getting something else.

Regarding the 6S+ possibly having more RAM than the 4.7" version then the short answer is that it needs it. The 6+ is massively underspecced when it comes to RAM whilst the 4.7" iPhone 6 just about gets away with it if you're a general user who doesn't care about multitasking.

That's my issue tho. I'm that 1% who really cares about multi tasking. It's been the iPhone's downfall for me since day one. Other thing I hate is i can't access saved files on my phone. Go forbid I can attach a file into an email.

Males, how do you carry a 6 plus? Do you wear baggy pants? A holster? Stick it in your backpack which you carry at all times? Seriously do not understand how guys can carry this thing around. Girls, I just assume that they stick in their purse.

It baffles me how people who do not wear tight pants have a problem pocketing it.

95% of the iPhone users have no idea how much RAM their iPhone has or cares.

Perhaps not specifically, but they'll definitely feel it eventually. I was the one at the beginning of the 6 life cycle saying 2GB wasn't a huge deal, but after using the 6+ for a year, I can feel its impact on the performance. I don't see why we WOULDN'T have 2GB at this point.

Not saying it will not have it. I am saying that most users do not care. They have been quite happy with thei iPhones.

Both devices will have the same camera, except for OIS unless they manage to add it to the 4.7 model.
I'm pretty sure they'll have the same amount of RAM as well. If I'm wrong I may switch to the bigger model only for the RAM, I really want 2GB this time.

Maybe the normal 6s will still be lacking OIS... :(
Since ram is often combined with the cpu, both models will be getting the same amount of ram.
The iPad mini had the same ram as the iPad 2, while the other iPads had more ram.

The iPhone 6, screen aside and minor speed improvements aside, is not as good as the two generations older iPhone 5. The 6+, screen aside, is an absolute disaster.
For people to 'not care' that their new phones aren't even as good as their old phones makes me despair for humanity.

I'd venture and say it's even higher than that. Most of my friends aren't techy forum people and none has ever brought up the need for more RAM.

Because they aren't techy of course they won't be saying things like "I wish the iPhone had 2GB RAM"

It will manifest in statements like:

"I wish the tabs wouldn't refresh when I jump from page to page, it makes copying/pasting stuff impossible"

or "It's so annoying when you come out of a game to reply to a text and when you go back in the game reloads and I lose my save point"

or "Aaargh why is it going so slow!"

Either way, the iPhone needs 2GB RAM whether you're a techie or not. There's no two ways about it I'm afraid.

I would rather say it will have use for it, but at the moment I happily use my devices for all purposes on current generation of phones with only 1GB RAM. Most people don't know what they need or that memory may relieve their multitask menu in iOS9.

You cut off the bit of my original comment that explains exactly that..

iPhone 6/6+ have issues that wouldn't be there should they have 2GB RAM. That's a fact. If you're happy with those issues then fine, but the crux of the matter is they simply should not be there in the first place, and are only there because of Apple's cost cutting exercise to keep the profit margins up, which IMO is unacceptable. The iPhone is the flagship phone from the flagship phone company. Issues created by cost cutting should not exist on iPhone, period.

I think you will "despair" no matter what.

Not at all. I just expect two things from my iPhone.
a) That it performs satisfactorily for my needs and b) that it performs noticeably better than my outgoing two years older iPhone.

Sadly neither a) nor b) are achieved and even worse, my 6+ is actually *worse* than my old iPhone 5. Sure the screen is better and the battery life is better but the actual phone itself? Much worse. My £699 'upgrade' was an expensive mistake. I expect top class products from Apple and I pay the premium to get them. I consider myself to have been ripped off with the 6+.

I hope one day you find a device that does not disappoint you, but I have my doubts.

Best of luck on your journey!

That's a flippant remark considering that I'm 'disappointed' with a quite obvious flaw in my device and one which didn't exist in my previous two years older device from the same company.

95% of the iPhone users have no idea how much RAM their iPhone has or cares.
They will care when they find they can't look through very popular web pages without constant reloading and running across that message "there was a problem with this page..."

They might not know why this is happening at first but they will start to make inquiries and come upon the discussions about 1G vs 2G and then they will care.

Or they will just give up and try another phone. Either way, Apple is going to start caring and have an incentive to be less stingy with the RAM.

I'm "the wife" so often referred to on tech forums, who accepted my husband's hand-me-down devices when our budget was tighter and who even now sometimes offers to take his older computers and Android devices to experiment with. Even lacking the technical training my husband has, I notice when things don't work well. Then I get mad and want to know why. In that respect I'm like the average user. Where I may differ is that I am persistent enough to research why things don't work like I expected them to.

EDIT TO ADD: My iPhone 6Plus and my retina iPad mini both constantly reload certain web pages, mostly news sites or blogs that have discussion sections or embedded ads, even if I don't try doing anything else on the device. In other words they will reload while I'm simply scrolling down trying to read the article or comments. I get a message informing me there was a problem with the page and it needed to be reloaded. It's very frustrating.

Force touch is a gimmick. Maybe it makes sense on the Watch, but on my Macbook Pro I barely use it, and when I do, I find it difficult to press the trackpad with enough power, in order to get the desired function. I am not sure how it would be better on an iPhone.

Agreed - I basically hate Force Touch on the laptops. The only time it ever gets invoked is by accident and I never want it to do anything it's doing.

Based on this thread and all the numerous other threads on this topic the plus will have the same amount of ram as the regular as its a SOC and it just wouldnt be good business to have a totally different SOC designed and developed unless they charge a crazy amount like $400+ more for the plus model.

camera very possibly could be different. Altho i just hate that because you are more likely to the pull the smaller model out for pics than a bigger phone and probably just keep in your bag/pocket or use your apple watch.

If it does not have 2GB RAM people will jump from buildings! LOL!

That's weird? My iPhone 6 is better than the iPhone 5 I had previously. Perhaps I was super lucky?
