Getting the firmware from a torrent won't make Apple lose any money. Different from other software providers Apple does not care that much about piracy, you can compare a Windows program vs OS X or iOs program, you'll see that windows' invest a lot more in security than apple side.

Just to clarify - as an owner of a recently purchased (week or two) iPhone 4, will the Monte work for me at all if the 4.3 version gets done, or I am I out of luck lacking pre-4.2.1 SHSHs?

At the moment you are out of luck and stuck with a tethered JB.
Down the road noone knows what will be released.
I am really tied of your none sense and all what you keep saying about developers, Monte DO NOT required pirating, it is not a requirement and again, your 90 - 99% number you got it from the button of your shoe (just because i don't want to say where you really got it from) and even if the number is 90% that is NOT everyone, se please be respectful of developers.

In all seriousness, I was trying to help you CZK. Not everyone is smart enough to understand your flip-flopping logic and your skewed sense of legality. Pirating an IPSW is illegal, but reverse engineering Sony's firmware code is totally okay with you...
Its just weird because they're both "illegal" under the same body of Intellectual Property Law.

I think its probably reasonable to say that, 4.2.1 untethered is a low priority for them and I think theyre focusing more on 4.3

Yeah, sorry to hear that, you are on the population currently not benefice at all by all this news, but with all the work at least an untethered version should be at your disposal in the time being. I still think that Monte is one of the coolest thing we had on the community since the original JB apps. (I remember customized, the grandfather of Winterboard, it was so cool

I hope I get something untethered. Working with a tethered phone is terrible. Once I had an issue with MobileSubstrate on my phone and it required a restart and my phone was effectively "stranded" while I was on the road.
The bad part is, if they work on an untether that requires 4.1 hashes, I'm done for. The current monte requires 4.2b3 and although I do have access to the IPSW (Dev Program), I cant really use it because I dont have the hashes.
I feel like I'm going to be running stock for a long time, which is terrible because I've paid out for MyWi, My3G, and BiteSMS.

I have to agree. I've been using tethered jailbreak for about two weeks now. It's honestly not that bad. I just have to make sure my battery stays charged, and be a little careful when installing stuff in Cydia.
Only time it was bad was when QuickReply for SMS decided to go rogue, and it caused me to have to reboot. However, I was a short walk away from my laptop.
