I voted "nothing.. little more storage."

I agree that FM transmitter would be really nice. You can always find a radio around for times when you need more volume than the built-in provides, but you lack a speaker dock or cables for aux-in to a stereo.

Still, I don't know what it would mean for the price point. Extra gates to prevent communications confusion, WiFi vs FM... Isn't that why you get the "This is not compatible with the iPod touch / iPhone" message when you plug these newer devices into some external transmitters or older speaker docks made for previous gen iPods?

...explain about the FM transmitter

I am pretty positive the 2nd Gen did not have an actual hardware for FM transmitter... Care to share some info? ...I could be wrong, but I think there was just some software.

CrackBookPro:cool:

Several on here have posted that the Bluetooth part has an FM Transmitter, assuming that is correct and they hooked it up correctly, its just a case of software to get us an FM Transmitter. It would be similar to what happened with the Bluetooth part and 3.0 (Stereo Bluetooth headphones), since its not working on the 3GS, I'm guessing they would make it part of 3.1, which I expect they will be selling to the touch owners.

The 16 GB 3GS Phone is $179 in parts and labor, take out the phone parts and its even cheaper for a touch with the same capabilities minus the phone. Camera and GPS parts combined are a total of $12.20, the $179 price for the 3GS is cheaper then the teardown cost last year of the 16 GB 2G Ipod Touch. The FM Transmitter as someone has already said is actually in the 2G hardware, so its a software issue, or a hardware hookup issue, neither of which increase the cost here. I'm guessing we'll see

16 GB for $249
32 GB for $349
64 GB for $449

with GPS, Camera and with 3.1 we'll get the FM transmitter enabled.

Tigger,

you'll enjoy this, because I know you think a GPS is coming to the 3rd Gen Touch

I see a lot of rumors and speculations coming from you. I know this is MacRumors.com, but c'mon

Well, hear is a rumor for you to ponder...

Rumor is... TomTom is making an adapter (hardware) that is compatible for the Touch (and the iPhone).

So, I'm guessing, now you are wondering why an iPhone would need a TomTom adapter  - BECAUSE it still runs off of assisted GPS (or some call it enhanced GPS)!

You think this "TomTom adapter" rumor is true? ...if you do, atleast we agree on one thing :D

hmmm... If that's the best info you have, I guess I'll take it for what it's worth...

nice guess

First of all Tom Tom is definitely making an adapter. The reason why is 3 fold.

1) They can sell it for more.
2) By using there GPS chip development is way quicker and way easier. (Basically they are using the IPHone/Touch for the screen only, it comes with a speaker as well)
3) Less then 1/2 of the current 40 Million Iphone/Itouchs have GPS in them, why make your market smaller by only aiming at 1/2 of them.

camera

the ipod touch feels more like a media device for children!, but for those people who want to take pics, (at the max 2.0 MP) on the go and put them up on facebook, or myspace, let it be.

i would love to see a 128 GB, ipod touch!!!!!! for less $$$

i would also love to see if the ipod touch can receive radio transmissions like a radio!

i would also like to see a line of diffrent colored ipod touches, not the chrome edition one, cause its getting boring!!!!

I don't need it in my Touch since I don't use my Touch for music. I have several players that are better than the Touch for that. I keep the Espresso in my car, since music from it's FM transmitter sounds great on my car stereo.

I wouldn't count Latte out so quick either. The G-sensor on the Espresso allows EVERY screen/app to rotate no matter which way you've turned it. The 16gb model was $139. It plays AVI, WMV, AAC, RM/RMVB, MP3, WMA, FLAC, and WAV files. It's no Touch, but it's one hell of a great value for a media player.

Hey, I have a unrelated question to this thread. I bought the Latte Espresso to use in my car but I can't figure out how it transmits to the FM radio. Is there some settings I need to change? What stations will the player use? What station does your player use? Thanks for any help you can give me!

...colors would be nice, especially since the target audience is pretty young. But, ever since the Touch was released, it seems Apple wants to go after the iPhone's shell for the next Touch. I have two opposing views, where Apple may not do this for a overstocking issue of a certain color, but on the other end, this audience is young, and different colors do "sell" the younger folks...

I would say no, but I wouldn't count it out. ;)

Throw on a case or a snap-on back cover and the iPod Touch is any color you want.

agree to disagree :p

UberaMD, you kind of made a moot point - there is a difference between the casing and a cover/shell. You know that & Apple knows that - http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/ - Any intelligent reasoning to why Apple made the Nano come in different colors?

Plus, different colors would only add to the Touch's motto of "the funnest iPod ever."

Nonetheless, I don't think it will happen due to it being a pretty expensive unit. But, at this point, who knows???...

It wouldn't be the first time Apple did a 180 I suppose. I like the Incipio Feather case because its slender, and looks like it belongs on the device. I use it on my 3GS, so I'm not sure if they have one for the touch or not but its a viable option.

Can we we agree that it sounds like a lot of people want everything in the iPod Touch (camera, FM transmitter, FM receiver, coffee maker, more storage, mini air conditioner, blah blah blah blah blah) and still want it to keep the $200 price point? And to everyone proposing all these things, I suggest to you this: take an intro to electrical engineering class. Learn about how these things are made, then learn some appreciation for what this already incredibly thin device contains. Chances are your laundry list of "I want's" will get cut in half.

Looks like they decided the camera and mic weren't too expensive!

Still looking into that intro to electrical engineering class lol...:p

Good find CBP...

Don't down the electrical engineers lol! I would like to see a mic and a camera as well...hopefully something like 3 to 4 Megapixel too would be nice.

It's an iPod. Its not a camera. Its not a video camera. Its a music device that plays applications. The calling for a camera is silly, as it just makes no sense having on one on a iPod touch. Unless of course you want the device price to skyrocket like the $700 iPhone costs. The iPod Touch is .33 inches thick, iPhone is .48 inches thick. The camera is pretty tall so it would add thickness to the device as well.

Makes no sense. And yes, I own a iPod Touch and iPhone. I don't see why you don't just admit you want the iPhone, minus the phone calling ability for the same price of $200. Thats what it boils down to. Good luck.

All I can say is, as in all my previous posts, you're wrong and it's becoming more/more official.

Rumors of cameras on iPod touches. Cases for new iPods with camera holes.

I'm hoping they add a track forward/backward button so I can change songs without taking the ipod out of my pocket.

I can't stand those ear pieces. I'd personally have to get the $80 in-ear ones and I'm hoping to avoid spending $80 after droppin $300 for a new touch.:)

Haha, I know what you mean. For the price Apple should include quality headphones.
