I wouldn't be so hasty! I have no need nor desire for a camera or a video camera. I wouldn't say no to more storage...but I'm cool either way!

Yeah I agree with the camera thing, on one hand a pointless little addition , but on the other its just cool! (and I suppose it could be used with apps etc .)
About the storage , why do some people want more storage isn't 32gb enough for you ??? seriously if you want mega storage space then get an iPod classic !

PS: (about the poll) 'larger hard drive' I'm pretty sure the iPod touch or iPhone don't use hard drives but SSD ? that's why the 'problems' about limited storage space

What would you most want in a iPod Touch? ...it is a great device, but there is some foreseeable improvements we all are looking for...

Full access to the file system without having to jailbreak it or having to buy some third party software. I also want to be able to install software on it WITHOUT having to use Apple's CrapStore and without having to obey their arbitrary rejection policy and 'inappropriate content' censorship. The guys in Cupertino are the worst sort of control freaks imaginable, and I won't support them anymore with my money.

Thats why we have Windows Mobile devices. However, once you realize how much time you waste searching around for quality software you will learn to appreciate the App Store.

GPS and a Camera would have me sending my current 2005 iPod Video to the Glue Factory for a new iPod touch.

And for the argument that a camera and GPS would hurt the iPhone's market presence: that's a total lie. The iPod touch is for the people who won't switch to at&t under any circumstances (me, I left them for Verizon and haven't looked back) and won't pay for data plans.

You can have a camera in the iPod touch and the iPhone and have them have their own niches...GPS too.

I would like to see a camera. I only carry a digital camera with me when I'm expecting to take pictures, and half the time I want to take a picture I was never expecting anything exciting to happen anyway. Having a digital camera in my iPod (which I carry everywhere) would be a lot more convenient.

Especially since I have a really cheap phone. :D

The iPhone 3G (S) needs as much differentiation from the iPod Touch as possible to convince people that the iPod Touch won't 'cut it' for them, and that they need the iPhone 3G (S) to get all the features they want.
If Apple was doing that, the iPod touch wouldn't have half the features of the iPhone. Reminds me of those "iPod Video" mockups from years ago.

And no, I'm not paying $2000 (or whatever the contract costs) for a camera and GPS.

Exactly.

For me, the stumbling block isn't the contract itself, it's who the contract is with.

Verizon kicks at&t's ass when it comes to coverage and 3G networks...it's not even close. I left at&t back in 2006 and I refuse to go back. Just now they are getting up to speed on 3G when VZW is about to roll out 4G.

That's why the "Don't be cheap, just get the iPhone" argument means jack squat to me. I'm not being cheap, I'm just not going back to at&t when I have a carrier with a far superior network.

enjoy their crappy and crippled phones  oh yeah that's right! it's their superior network!

When I can talk in my basement with zero breakups whatsoever (Verizon) and not have to go outside for each call (at&t), Verizon's crippled phones really don't matter to me. Add in the fact that nearly everyone I know is on Verizon and you have a recipe for me not switching unless at&t bumps their network considerably. Keep in mind once at&t has 3G coverage near Verizon's levels, Verizon will be rolling out 4G.

Besides, I use my phone for texting and calling. E-mail and internet stuff are what the iPod touch is going to be for.

ANYWAY: Camera, GPS and compass and I'll be one of the first to order. A mic would be nice too.

-A Camera

-Vibration Settings

-Mic.

:apple:

Not wanting to fan any flames...but...
From Techcrunch:

"Apple has placed an order for a massive number of camera modules of the type that they include in the iPhone. These are inexpensive cameras, in the $10 range. And the size of the order, our source says, means they can only be used for one thing - the iPods."

The other interesting rumor is that Apple might put picoprojectors in both the iPhone and Touch. It seems to be a longshot, but that rumor has been picked up by a number of sites lately.

We now return from the land of rumors and back to reality... hopefully no harm done.

Thing is, Apple will never change thing so drastically that it comes a iPhone, just not being able to make calls.

You know it's a bit unrealistic for them to have "all of the above" and still have the same price?

I don't mind the storage but would like to have the processor speed sped up.

I'm in the same boat about AT&T >>> Verizon supersedes AT&T in their network/coverage - That's the only true reason I do not have an iPhone ;)

Fogot to mention a Built in FM transmitter anyone? I think that would be useful...:D

...great post!

Never ever thought about that. But, a built-in FM Transmitter is a great idea, so I do not have to go out purchase one! ;)

It would be innovative...which Apple shoots for, but I wonder if there is an underlying business decision that Apple may opt not to do this.

I would vote yes as a consumer, and a maybe as a manufaturer  - You have to strategize what the pros & cons are for Apple???
