This topic is just silly IMO. What's the point of wireless charging? What's the point of temperature control in your vehicle or even AC? You could just put on a jacket or roll down the window. Who needs this other thing?

I use wireless charging every day. It's really convenient, allows me to have a plugged in wireless charger sit in one place and I can just throw my phone on it and walk away. I have one at home and one at work. Could I just have plugged in the phone at those locations? Sure, but I could still be using a flip phone as well instead of a smartphone. No one NEEDS a smartphone, or heat control or wireless charging. It's simply something nice to have and gives you options. Don't like it? Then don't use it. No one is making you.

I believe eventually we will see like a localized wireless charging where you don't have to be on a mat but if you are within 6-12 inches of the pad, it will charge.

The technology is already out there. companies like Energous have a 15ft range. That means you can have one in your office, it will charge all devices regardless of where they are.

thats the future

I can't see the 'charging port' going away anytime soon. Remember, this port is also used to connect to a computer, in case one needs to restore via a PC (when an iPhone is bricked - of sorts)...

Eventually, won't happen until you can wirelessly charge the phone without putting it onto a pad. Right now, you still need the cord and there's not been a bug rush of locations that offer wireless charging. No matter how much Samsung wanted it first. Apple is big enough to get the ball rolling. Just like with Apple Pay. Not the first, but got it implemented much quicker then Google did.

With no 3.5mm headphones jack, those of us with High Quality Lightning Headphones can now listen to music and charge at the same time. When cars catch up to wireless CarPlay you will be able to just place your phone on the wireless charger without fumbling around for wires.

Assuming you can get the dongle to work, and assuming it doesn't make your headphones sound horrible. I've had zero luck with the dongle. So much so that I've switched my music listening to my other phone (Samsung)

Right now it's pretty useless. In a few years though now that Apple has adopted the feature we might start seeing cars support it and such. It typically takes Apple adopting a feature for it to gain mainstream popularity in the market.

honda's have wireless qi charging option for the center console.

Although Apple's Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack adapter does degrade the audio quality slightly, it is almost impossible for a person to notice the difference unless it is cranked up to near maximum volume level.

Old thread, but first I've seen it.

Wireless charging at home isn't really a big deal. But the day you see widespread wireless chargers in public spaces, it'll make a lot more sense. I don't think I've ever seen one in the wild, though.
