Along with the dead cords, I'll also be glad to be rid of ports that don't work because crap like lint gets stuck in them.

I mean you could just take something like a toothpick and get rid of it. My cable kept falling out of my phone and I thought the port was screwed, but I checked and noticed a ton of lint. So I just used a toothpick, cleaned it out and now it's perfect again.

I'd love it in my car. Wondering if I can find a 3 x 5 inch pad that plugs into USB.
I'm sure there will be plenty of options soon. I just saw something from SOCHE (or whatever they're called) yesterday.

I'm going to call the OP out a bit on this one. We all understand you're not impressed with wireless charging. But asking what the point is? I think you can figure it out. Lay your phone down on your table and it's charging. Much better for some of us than fumbling with cords. And as I teach my kindergartners, it's ok to have a different opinion than others.

Plus, it's more secure when using publicly, say in an airport, because you're not plugging your phone into anything or opening a bridge for data transfer. Power only.
I was wondering when someone would finally mention the extra security.

It's already known -- but not known well enough -- that a power socket or cable can be designed to get into a connected device. I'm not comfortable with plugging into random USB ports in public spaces anymore.

And a +1 to the extra convenience and impending ubiquity, especially now that Apple is on board with Qi.

Who knows? By the time my SE needs upgrading, maybe the only time I'll plug my next iPhone into anything will be when I'm driving my Honda (which I plan to drive another ten or fifteen years even though it doesn't support wireless CarPlay).

As long as the case isn't too thick it should still work.

However, if the case is made of a magnetic material it will not. I'm also assuming I would have to stop using my Scosche Magic Mount in my truck since it requires a slim metal plate to be placed inside my case on the back of the phone to for the magnet to attract. I don't plan on updating my phone this year so it's not a big deal for me right now, but next year I will probably be back to looking for a new mount for my truck.

This I did not know. I also use a magnetic mount in my car and am upgrading to the 8 Plus. Guess I need to switch to the bracket style mount. Maybe I’ll skip a case on my phone this year if I don’t need it to hold in the metal plate for the magnetic mount.

Can't argue it's more convenient to charge your phone by laying down flat vs plugging a cable in however....

Mounting my phone in the car and using my phone while it's plugged in seem like 2 scenarios where wireless charging would be am issue.

As for the car mount, there are already several Qi-enabled car mounts available. That was something I thought of immediately, as I still use my iPhone as GPS and audio.

There will be even more for us to choose from now that Apple has made the switch.

As for your second point, I'm not sure I'll be buying a charging pad for my bedside any time soon. That's where I'm most likely to use my phone while it's plugged in, and I think I'll keep it that way for the foreseeable future.

Data has been able to transfer wirelessly to your Mac since... oh, I dunno, several versions back in iOS. Maybe six or seven years?

My audio is fed directly into my car deck through the lightning cable but I guess that's an issue specific to my use case but you make a good point.

That being said having to buy charger pucks and or have to carry one around to connect to my laptop seems like a crappy user experience.

I always forget about that feature! By chance are you the same BarracksSi on wus?

Yup. Started poking around here when the AW came out and I wanted more info.

Still have all ten slots in the watch box filled, too.

Yeah, my car doesn't support wireless CarPlay either, so it's guaranteed to need a cable even though a Qi pad is available to install into the console.

For traveling, I'd need to decide whether I want to take multiple adapters and cables, or one adapter, one cable, and the AirPower pad. I've hesitated on the UFO-style Watch dock and see less of a reason to buy one now.

From the looks of air power, u literally can charge multiple devices under one mat.

You can. You can charge your iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPod simultaneously at the same time. I just question what's the charging rate speed at having three devices charged at once versus just charging one device altogether.

It's really more for the convenience factor

Probably lesser rate than expected...whatever that maybe. Didn't apple say you need 29 w or something? or higher?

Yes, true. I would say it's more convenient than anything else having three devices charging at once. And this is coming from an iPhone/AirPod/Apple Watch owner.

I believe they did say something similar to that effect. I don't think I will purchase it immediately and I will wait to see what others are saying based on testing and overall how happy they are with it.

Since you have to share those electricity...i'm thinking it's going to be at slower than whatever it's being used...ex: 29 w to 12 or something...guessing.

Can someone please explain to me exactly what is all the fuss about wireless charging?

I'd rather have a small wire going into my phone instead of a large stupid lump of crap on my table which also has a wire going into.

What is it the point?????
What if multiple devices can use the charge pad & charge at the same rate or faster than they currently do?

Then you'll just be using one cable/wall plug for your iPhone, iPad, Airpods etc.

That's still a way off, but that's the convenience wireless charging brings.

Right now it's pretty useless. In a few years though now that Apple has adopted the feature we might start seeing cars support it and such. It typically takes Apple adopting a feature for it to gain mainstream popularity in the market.

I thought so! It's funny how many people from wus you see on other forums that are not watch related. I got the Apple Watch Series 2 Nike+ as a birthday present to myself and more often than not I'm wearing my Breitling and a Fitbit on the other wrist. I only recently started wearing my AW on the regular because the strap on my Fitbit broke.
