The Fifth Element is one of those films that's terrible on a narrative level, but visually inspired, and the actors all seemed to be having fun, so it gets a pass. It's a bit like Flash Gordon in that respect - awful on a rational level, but it compensates with masses of charm.

I suppose this is why everyone is different....... ;)
Fifth Element is one of my favourites.....Luc Besson.....👍

I don’t recall the name of it, possibly one word, but it involved a businessman in the back of his limo, talking on the phone, riding very slowly through a dark city street. Occasionally objects would be thrown at the limo, and graffiti covered the sides.

A memorably awful film. I couldn’t finish watching it.

That would be ‘Cosmopolis’ With Robert Pattinson.

And Yup, you’d be correct (It Should have never been produced/directed/scripted, well, even existed in the first place😁), 31% viewer rating rating based off R.T.-

I quite liked it as well fwiw. Felt it could have done with a bit more background to what was going on, but that doesn't tend to make for an exciting or well received film (see Star Wars prequels).

Got a few that slot into different categories of bad:

Lion King live action - not so much bad in itself, but really failed to live up to the original animated version which was probably my absolute favourite growing up.

Titanic 2 - low budget TV movie unrelated to James Cameron's blockbuster. It uses the Queen Mary as a supposed second Titanic and it was so cheesy and overacted it made me physically uncomfortable.

Eragon - adaption of a book with a long list of major flaws into a film that abridges the plot so badly most of it doesn't even make logical sense.

Cats - Now I can't say I've actually watched this, but I've seen enough to know I don't want to... who on earth thought this venture into the uncanny valley was a good idea 😖

Twilight (Can't even remember which one, second or third I think) - girlfriend insisted I went to the cinema to see it with her. Was chaperoned to the cinema by my dad and spent the whole time surrounded by chattering, giggling or squealing girls trying to eke a little bit of distraction out of one of the most vacuous pieces of cinematography ever created - would probably make a good basis for an awkward-funny sitcom episode =P

Same thoughts here, quite enjoyable movie for me.

What I find rather terrible is most stuff with the Marvel name on it. Guess you have to grow up with their merchandise to like it.

How we hold our youthful memories so dear to our hearts. And when those brands or franchises surface again, the new can't hold up to original memories, no matter how good it is. How many times has a song been remade and you tend to like the first one you heard, even if it wasn't the original? It's kind of like that. That's my problem with GI Joe and Transformers movies. They can never live up to my childhood memories.

Got another movie - Fair Game with Cindy Crawford and William Baldwin. I imagine the pitch meeting for this movie had to go something along the lines of the Sprite Death Slug commercial... Supermodel - check. Baldwin brother - check. Russians - check. Plot - we'll get back to that one.

Yup very true! Read Disney are now re-making Hercules as well which has to be a close second from my childhood, think I'll give memory lane a miss this time as it's a lot smaller and more plasticky than I remember!

No contest!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The franchise won't be able to recover from that vandalism. It is one thing to make a "bad film" through incompetence. It is another thing entirely to hijack it and destroy all the existing characters as a political statement for your brand of politics. Honestly, Bob Iger was too distracted with the success of the MCU, to notice Kathleen Kennedy and her band of hack directors were killing Star Wars.

This...

The plan for May the 4th is to start watching "Rise of Skywalker" on D+, if almost as bad, stop it mid way through (D+ knows how many times and for how long show is watched) then go and watch "A New Hope". It sends a message anyways...

One of my worst too. The original Lion King was also one of my favorites...and I saw it when I was an adult.

Neighbors with Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi. With those two, what could go wrong? How about making Dan the slob and John the straight guy. Didn't work. The only movie I ever walked out on.

As far as I’m concerned star wars ended with Return of the Jedi (6 films).
Once Disney got hold of it......blaaah
But then I’m an old bugger....... :p

Hard to say, but...

fearing and loathing in las vegas
given its 7.5/10 imd rating by 300K people and Johnny Depp i was awaiting something big.

I tortured myself to complete, didn't understand a thing and didn't know what the movie is about.

Hudson Hawk with Bruce Willis. Terrible on every level.

this is on my watchlist along with breakfast of the champions. should i retract?

this has to be sarcasm

Fear and Loathing.. I believe you'd have to be a fan of, or familiar with, Hunter S. Thompson.

Hudson Hawk was crap.

Watchmen I loved.

I just rented the docudrama Pavements. It's pretty horrible. The story of one of the most influential American punk bands.

Turns out they suck, IMHO, that is... and so does the film. ;)

You made it farther through this heaping pile of dung than I did. Both me and the wife looked at each other about 20-30 minutes in and said, yeah no. Switched movies and never looked back.

Seems I missed the discussion on The Fifth Element. While I wasn't a fan and didn't finish watching it, my girlfriend had good memories watching it years ago. I wonder if it would hold up for her. Adding to the user who mentioned Eragon, but I saw that movie in theaters with a few friends back when we were in high school, and while I didn't think that it was offensively bad or anything, I couldn't remember anything that happened in the film minutes after walking out of the theater. I've rarely had that experience with any movies.

Anyway, I had the misfortune of seeing Master of Disguise in theaters when I was 12. Now that was a horrible movie. I'm never getting the time I wasted watching that movie back.

has anything with Corey Feldman been mentioned? It is safe to say anything beyond the couple of hit movies he was in as a child will safely rank among the worst movies of all time.

i dont know who that is

I am glad i am not the only one. The high rating made me question myself.

The 2013 remake of The Great Gatsby.

I remember there was a scene where the characters were driving and passing a car on a bridge or something...the scene slowed down kind of like bullet time in The Matrix while the camera spun around the view of the car they were passing...

My wife and I looked at each other and without a word we both got up to leave and demand our money back. That's the only movie I've ever done that for.

I've not seen this thread before, and really enjoyed reading thru it; I'm not a huge movie buff (last flick I've seen in a theater was the original Spiderman)* but I've seen a few of those mentioned.
But no one has mentioned The World's First "Scratch-n-Sniff Movie, Polyester! It's so bad it's good, kinda like Rocky Horror Picture Show. I may have to see if I have access to it tonight, and watch it again.

And someone mentioned The Gods Must Be Crazy. That movie started out slower than anything I'd ever seen, and I almost walked out on it too. Then, suddenly, its slapstick-style humor kicked in, and to this day it's the funniest movie I've ever seen, and in my Top-5 favorites of all time. The Gods Must Be Crazy II was also fantastic, without the slow start.

*EDIT: Forgot, during Ogden UT's last year of hosting part of the Sundance Film Festival (at the beautiful Ogden Egyptian Theater) I did go see a Miles Davis biopic, Miles Ahead, starring and directed by Don Cheadle, that premiered. I was hoping to see some jazz legends in attendance, but didn't. The film had a bunch of flashbacks and time shifts so that I couldn't really follow what was going on; I think if I watched it again it'd make a lot more sense.
