I know, it's the internet, but this site is divisive as hell. Not the fault of the site, but every thread I click into is some childish debate about who's smarter, more knowledgeable, who's dick is bigger. I was regularly on a year ago about the great dumb debate about whether Apple "lost it's way" in their new MBP lineup. It seems that is still going on. Now I've been back regularly because of my excitement about the new X. People are arguing about whether the 8+ or X is better? WTH? Did people argue if the MB was better than the MBP?People are just spewing stupid "facts" about screen size, value per dollar, size of bezels, size in hands, and how clever they are because they bought the iPhone [of choice]. I get that these discussions are necessary in part to help people make decisions, but the level of vitriol reminds me of US politics. People stop making sense and just argue to argue. I frequent other forums for info, but the level of trolling here is on another level. Am I alone? Possible that I am just out of touch with internet forums in 2017? It's MADNESS!!

Agree, I frequent many forums and this one is the worst for it by far.

It's like this on every forum and always has been. PRSI is so over the top you can't even take most posters seriously.

Some people just seem to need to show that what they have is the best. If that means they have to put down something else, they do it. It's their way. It's rude and childish, but it's their way.

I think it's kind of fun.

I'm odd, so that's to be expected.

Edit: I got banned from iMore because me and a group of others called out how they deleted posts like crazy. I like the minimal censorship. It allows people to be themselves, for good or bad.
Haha. I agree it's fun for awhile. I do my part in taking down trolls sometimes, but I just end up getting suspended. So a new improved version of me has appeared, but I can't even have a conversation pro-Apple or anti-Apple because I'll get flamed on both sides. Apple is not perfect, but they're also not the worst company in existence. Lack of rational discussion boggles my mind. I REALLY like my new products, but still annoyed about some others (Siri, ATV), but hard to engage in conversation for workarounds without getting flamed. Maybe I'm getting too old or too busy or too impatient. Or everyone here is just NUTS.

I think I'm used to being flamed. It happens over at XDA too. People in general are nuts. As I grow older I notice this more. I think I'm turning into a grumpy old hermit. Thankfully online I can just click the X or ignore them.

Agree with OP, but I found that the Ignore function here is one of the better ones.

Save for a few visual clues here and there, you can largely never see or hear from anyone who you've ignored.

The way they strip out even mentions of them in other people's quotations is magic!
Very very nice - I wish more forums did it this completely.

If I were more efficient with my time I would do that. Or maybe I’m a masochist. But I actually want to know what people are saying. I don’t ignore any users as a personal policy. How else would I know that the world has lost it’s mind? I like pretty much everything in life raw and unfiltered. But this is the price to pay for it.

lol - I hear you..
I just reached a point where I realized that some people just like to troll and incite trouble and I decided I just don't need that stuff in my sphere of knowledge.

Don't get me wrong though - I don't just start closet ignoring people. I really only do it when I recognize the trend of the posts that is familiar to me as "they like to just irritate others".

I don't take any of the posts in PRSI seriously. It's all popcorn popping entertainment to me. But where is the fun in only watching when you can be part of the madness.:)

Very true. However it does beg the question.... is it madness .... or is it.....

Welcome to the internet. :p

I'm sure some of us would be much more civil if we had these discussions in person. I also know that a number of us try our darnedest to be civil and understanding. And yes, some people just like to argue. If it bothers you enough, just ignore it. Bad behavior only perpetuates because we give it our attention.

They aren't all Taylors and Paines in Washington. Their kind just throw big shadows, that's all. You didn't just have faith in Paine or any other living man. You had faith in something bigger than that. You had plain, decent, every day, common rightness. And this country could use some of that. Yeah - so could the whole cock-eyed world. A lot of it.

I have been reading this site off and on for awhile, and I can understand to some degree random arguements here and there. It's to be expected on the internet as a whole. The part that I do not understand is when someone makes it practically a living to troll a specific site like MacRumors. I'm not going to mention names but what kind of motivation does a person need to have to daily check this site, or any site, look for new threads that favor a particular Apple product, and argue with everyone who likes said product as if it is their life goal to make you hate this product because there are "better" ones on the market? And I'm not inflating this. Same person. Daily. For months and months, off and on for years. That is serious sour grapes.

The site is still great to get information and also to get some entertainment. But the culture in the last ten years has degraded to the point that my site visits have declined by 95%. One reason is that the mac community is vastly larger than 10 years ago. Also the public discourse in general has gotten more toxic. But that is true across the internet and at least the Mods here do an above average job.

lol.. If we are so much into that stuff it annoys us, then you've been online way too long.

To accept or disagree, i don't mind..... It IS a forum after all... you know.... freedom and all.

Its real simple. Report posts that you believe are in violation of MR policy. And any post(s) that you feel doesn't violate policy but is just too inane to warrant a retort, ignore said post(s).

Help the mods by doing your due diligence. Beyond that, take care of your own life and let the meaningless drivel go by. If you allow the infantile rhetoric to bother you, you give it power over you (in some way).

Isn’t this what forums are for? It’s called something like debate. Everyone will have a opinion about something. Not everyone will agree and sometimes it leads to arguments. As long as people can help out when needed things will be better. I think all forums are like this.
