My dreams are simple and don't rely on any not-invented-yet parts:

15" Macbook Pro with 1920x1200 LCD, trackpoint (aka "nipplemouse"), and TWO BLOODY MOUSE BUTTONS FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S HOLY.

That is all. So, so tired of Apple's insistence on crippled LCD resolutions and single-button mice. Yes, I know about the two-finger right click, no I don't think that's sufficient. Trackpads suck to begin with compared to trackpoints.

Unfortunately for you, most people don't agree with your sentiments, and Apple are unlikely to offer options on either front.

hiya

The current MacBook is fine, to be dream-worthy it would just need to have Nintendo Wii functionality built in.

I'm certain you'll find Dell manages to sell many, many more (trackpoint-equipped, two-button equipped, often hi-res screen equipped) laptops than Apple, day after day, year after year despite their other drawbacks (unattractive designs, Windows.)

Care to offer any evidence to support your assertion, "psychofreak"?

32 core processor, at 28Ghz
24gb ram
nvidia 16850GMX graphics card with 2068mb memory
10hour battery life whilst playing games
5 terabyte ssd drive
and call it the macpower pro

I would scarf this laptop up! What is your dream laptop?

Aluminum 12/13/15 inch MacBook Pro /3.06 GHz 4GB/High resolution HD matte screen/ Nividia 8600MGT graphics card at 512 mb/ 1TB HD/ large multi-touch pad / slot loading blu-ray dvd drive, 400/800 firewire port deliverable this year- 2008
:apple:

This was my original post. Now based on all of the great entries, my updated Dream laptop that is actually doable in 2008 now looks like this;

Aluminum 12/16/18 inch MacBook Pro /3.06 GHz 6GB/High resolution HD matte screen/ Fastest Nividia graphics card available 512 mb/ 1TB HD and a second 80gb SSHD/ large multi-touch pad / slot loading blu-ray dvd drive, 400/800 firewire port with apple remote for free:) :apple:

what about the 15" MBP form factor but made in carbon fiber? Wouldn't this be both stronger and lighter than the current aluminum offerings??

Quad-core would be nice too....how's the heat-diffusion properties of carbon fiber as a material compared with aluminum? Does anyone on this forum know?

I believe that Carbon Fiber is more $$ to fabricate than aluminum. Plus I am not sure how it would impact wireless signals.

Dream Laptop?
It's got to be one of those macbook pros with the see-through screens. I can't find them anywhere on the apple store though...

13" MBP that doesn't bend, has an SD card, and some function buttons to open up the internet, email, and finder.

Also, updated ports (esata, displayport, bluray, etc)

Black.

I have a feeling...

... that Apple will continue to blur the lines between the MB and MBP. That being said, I would STILL scarf up any 13 inch model that has MBP specs and hardware. Apple should take note how its competitors laptops are being mentioned as dream machines and up their game to High Def screens for the 15 inch MBP, Blue Ray and other current offerings from competitors ...:D

12" MacBook Pro
-2 x octo core 3.2 Ghz mobile xeons (but they speed up to always run the latest version of OSX)
-32x Omni-Drive (you put it in, it reads it, no matter what)
-64 Gb RAM (2 x 32 Gb FB DDR3 SODIMMs)
-10 Tb SATA SSD w/ reads and writes at 300 Gb/s
-.75" thin invincible black anodized aluminum enclosure that wouldn't show fingerprints
-3.5 lbs
-12" LED backlit 1600 x 1200 unbreakable LCD screen (resolution independence BTW)
-Built in HD iSight
-Airport Supreme (it adapts to a network, no limitations)
-Mobile broadband @ 20 Mbps
-Bluetooth 5.0 XDR (extreme data rate)
-2 x USB 3.0
-2 x FireWire 3200 (screw that ethernet port, I want more FW)
-Mini Dual-Link DVI
-Headphone and microphone in/out
-Mini "rechargeable" nuclear reactor instead of a battery
-Multitouch soft keyboard (big touch screen)
-Trackpad w/ multitouch gestures
-Surround sound
-It makes toast in the optical drive

More ports?

More ports would be nice. I would really love to had a CF and SD slot, and an ESATA port. At the same time, more holes mean more dust inside the computer.

I could trade FW800 for ESATA in a heartbeat as long as they keep FW400.

ok...some of this is doable in 2008...:D

'Omni Mac'

Well... how about
:apple: MacBook Omni
Omni display, can morph into any size, any res, any number of colors
1024x 32GHz Core 80 Omni
Omni-byte SSD (has infinite capacity, no need for backup as the drive is unbreakable etc)
Omni-byte of RAM
nVidia OmniForce with Omni-byte VRAM
Omni-Drive (taken from another poster, can play anything)
AirPort Omni (Super-range, it can find and connect to wireless networks half way around the world)
Unlimited USB and FireWire ports, on demand
OmniTooth wireless (capable of Blue- Green- and any other color- Tooth)
Terabit Ethernet
'Omni' TV tuner that can connect to HD signals half-way around the world
Omni battery, unlimited battery life
Omni iSight at any resolution
GPS that recieves signals within 0.1 sec
Thought sensing capability (think Safari, it opens Safari)
Invincible case, atomic bomb proof (won't even scratch it)
Paper thin, 0.000001 kg light
Thief tracking system
No need for 'mobile broadband' as it can connect to any wireless network within a range of 13000 KM
Price tag of $10 billion
Anything missing? Name it Omni. I like the word omni :D

honestly, the current 15" offering with 2.8GHz, 1680x1050, 320GB, silver chiclet keyboard and a larger trackpad at 5lb would have me sold.

Is that so much to ask? :D

Something to this effect, for now:

15" MacBook Pro (with a slightly updated case)
2.53Ghz C2D
4GB DDR2-667
Mobility Radeon HD3850
320GB Hard Drive @ 5400rpm
4 USB ports (How hard is that to do?)
2 Firewire 400
1 Firewire 800
MacBook style Keyboard

I want a Montevina MacBook Pro.

A more real dream from me:

13inch Aluminum MacBook/MacBook Pro, less then 1 inch thick, 4 pounds, 2.6GHz+ C2D, bright 1440x900 LED display, 512mgb Vid card, 4gb ram, 320GB HD, MultiTouch, current MBP style backlit keyboard.

My current machine, well maybe a bit faster and with no dead pixels like this one.

I wonder what the dream laptop of original powerbook owners in the early 90s was. I think if you suggested the current MBP to them they would be shocked.
