I pretty much am using my dream laptop right now but if it ran Mac OSX as well then that would be pretty sweet.

hmmm mine would be an alienware

GPU: Dual 512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 8800M GTX – SLI Enabled
Screen: 17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology – Black with AlienFX Illuminated Keyboard
CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme X9000 2.8GHz (6MB Cache 800MHz FSB)
RAM: 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz – 2 x 2048MB

Smart bay: 200GB 7,200RPM (8MB Cache) Smart Bay w/ Free Fall Protection
Optical Drive: 2x Dual Layer Blu-ray Disc Burner (BD-R, DVD±RW, CD-RW)

i enjoy playing games on windows... thats it. Everything else is mac:apple:

Something to this effect, for now:

15" MacBook Pro (with a slightly updated case)
2.53Ghz C2D
4GB DDR2-667
Mobility Radeon HD3850
320GB Hard Drive @ 5400rpm
4 USB ports (How hard is that to do?)
2 Firewire 400
1 Firewire 800
MacBook style Keyboard

I want a Montevina MacBook Pro.

4USB?? Open up a MBP and decide were you'd fit them.

And 2 fw400 would be freakin useless on a portable machine, hardly the one gets used.

MacBook Pro
17" 1920x1080
2.6Ghz+ 45nm/32nm Quad with proper power saving (turns off individual cores completly!!!)
4Gb DDR2 800/1066 4-4-4-12 or 3-3-3-9
320Gb 7200 or 128Gb SSD
DVD reader thats reads everything its supposed to!!!! (Bloody superdrive! lol)
Bigger battery
3 USB3
eSATA!!!!!!
FW800

Ditch FW400

Mac Pro
Single 3.2Ghz Quad
4Gb as standard

thats me done :p

How hard could it possibly be? Dell has managed to fit four USB ports in a 15.4" laptop for ages. Apple is supposed to be very good at innovation; I have no doubt they could manage to get 4 USB into a 15" laptop.

Also, I would use both Firewire 400 and possibly the 800 also.

I actually want to make an addendum, though:

15" MacBook Pro (with a slightly updated case)

320GB Hard Drive @ 7200rpm

I hope that they release a revision of the Pro with the technology of the Air. I recently lost my 12 inch PowerBook to a beer I was drinking. Yes, I tried to save as much of the beer as I could.

Obviously you don't do audio or video work.

You need at least 2 FireWire ports for the sound card and scratch disk.

USB sucks for scratch disks and most high end sound cards use only FireWire.

I know ProTools recommends nothing less than a FireWire drive for a scratch disk.

too bad osx doesnt support SLI, and why only a 128GB? i think 1.5TB laptop SSD's are already developed,

why only 4? alot of Asus 15.4" (asus makes MBP's BTW) have 5x or more, also WTF dont macbook's have card readers? WHY? even Sony decided to put SD readers on their vaio's even though they are pro "MS Pro" or "MS Duo"

hell even the freaking eee pc has 3x!!!!!!! my asus 12.1" has 3x as well. (also they are all on their own root hub, no shared usb power here.

EDIT: this asus has 5x and its 15.4"
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=22&l3=566&l4=0&model=2108&modelmenu=2

also Asus's 17" notebooks have 1TB of hard disk space lmao

damn, I came here to post this , except i'd take a t61p of course

Got to love that messed up screen bezel!

12" MacBook Pro
-2 x octo core 3.2 Ghz mobile xeons (but they speed up to always run the latest version of OSX)
-32x Omni-Drive (you put it in, it reads it, no matter what)
-64 Gb RAM (2 x 32 Gb FB DDR3 SODIMMs)
-10 Tb SATA SSD w/ reads and writes at 300 Gb/s
-.75" thin invincible black anodized aluminum enclosure that wouldn't show fingerprints
-3.5 lbs
-12" LED backlit 1600 x 1200 unbreakable LCD screen (resolution independence BTW)
-Built in HD iSight
-Airport Supreme (it adapts to a network, no limitations)
-Mobile broadband @ 20 Mbps
-Bluetooth 5.0 XDR (extreme data rate)
-2 x USB 3.0
-2 x FireWire 3200 (screw that ethernet port, I want more FW)
-Mini Dual-Link DVI
-Headphone and microphone in/out
-Mini "rechargeable" nuclear reactor instead of a battery
-Multitouch soft keyboard (big touch screen)
-Trackpad w/ multitouch gestures
-Surround sound
-It makes toast in the optical drive

Some of that, I'd be thinking ouch to my senses! Like the screen.

also Asus's 17" notebooks have 1TB of hard disk space lmao

And it's only 5 inches thick!

The only Mac I can think of that offers that is the Mac Pro, how have you performed the work up until now?

I have not upgraded to "the latest and greatest", as my G5 still works great with Final Cut Studio, ProTools, Ableton Live, and Reason.

When you have thousands of $ invested in software on top of thousands of $ invested in complimenting hardware, you don't upgrade everytime a new model comes out (especially during a whole new chip and platform upgrade).

Look around any Mac forums relating to audio or video production and you will see that I am not the only one wondering why there are less FireWire ports now.

My guess is that this is due to so many PC users buying iPods and only having USB ports, and so, to cut production costs, Apple stopped shipping both. Also, the adoption of Intel probably had something to do with it.

Anyway, the MacBook Pro and iMac still have at least 2 firewire ports - FW 400 for a sound card, and FW 800 for a scratch disk. It would be nice to have another FireWire 400 to plug the camera into.

a 12" MBP

or the macbook air 11" - to be truly ultra portable.

but in the meantime I am happy with the old 15" powerbook I use now.

Too true...

:apple:
It was "expected" in January. We got the MacBook Air.

Yes, :apple: missed the mark on that, but :apple: has an opportunity to make it right and they need to do so or potentially lose sales. A 13 inch MBP spec machine is a $$ maker. The MBA is a Niche/Techo trial balloon to see what the :apple: public will swallow.

There is no room in the product lineup for a 13" MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. As is, a 15" MBP only costs slightly more than a MacBook Air. Try and explain where the more powerful 13" MBP would go?

It is obvious to me...

:apple: You can place an Aluminum 12/13 inch MBP in a slightly higher $$ range of $1599-$1799 range. The Black Macbook at $1499 and the MBA at $1799

There is definitely a market for a 12/13 MBP level aluminum spec'd model for the following four reasons.

1.) people are still clamoring for a fully spec'd, Light, MBP level laptop. The Mac Book Air gives away too much in usefull specs to be seriously considered in a one laptop home, especially students/artists/musicians needing a built in Optical Superdrive,FW and a larger HD. The MBA is designed as a travel companion to another home desktop or larger laptop. A 12/13 inch MBP with a proper sized HD, superdrive and fully spec'd ports can truly stand on it is own.

2.)There are folks that will not buy a plastic laptop, regardless of specs. I do many keynote and powerpoint presentations in corporate settings. Trust me, I am breaking out the aluminum MBP vs the white or black macbook consistently.

3.)The only real differences between a TOTL mac blackbook and a baseline 15 MBP is the screen size and the graphics card as specs are basically the same. The problem for :apple: is that the separate graphics card is a deal maker to most people, especially if you plan to use it for more than a year. More powerful programs demanding graphic power are available more than ever. In my opinion, a separate graphics card is a must have If you are looking for any longetivity in your purchase. If :apple: ever decides to make a 12/13 inch, aluminum MBP with a separate graphics card again, it would absolutely fly off the shelves.

4.) The 12 Inch PBG4 is iconic because the screen is set vertically as as opposed to the horizontal setup in the current Macbooks. This layout works perfectly on middle seats on airplanes. The screen layout is great for using :apple: software suites iwork, iLife, Word and others.

Again, :apple:, in my opinion is missing the boat on this as well as a mid priced mini tower. Hopefully, the folks in Cupertino will mine thier history a bit and update a classic, aka the Volkswagon beetle. :)

the only things I would change about my current MBP (see sig) are:

multitouch trackpad (3 finger gestures)

SSD hard drive

512MB VRAM for video card

I am...

... a fan of the 17 inch MBP screen real estate. In looking at the future of :apple: however, it is clear that the 13 inch screen will be around for the foreseeable future. Since this is the case, I would want the most powerful 13 inch Apple laptop and that = a MBP spec'd model with separate graphics card.:) There is a reason that there are rumors of aluminum entering into the Macbook line. I hope that :apple: seizes this opportunity and make it a full blown MBP spec line from 13-15-17 inch aluminum models while keeping the plastic for baseline 13 MB models separate. :apple:

*Shakes head* No, you can't. Not if you like money, as I imagine Apple does.

You're still not getting the idea of product overlap, are you? Look at the pricepoints again. You're going to have the fully-featured 13" MBP cost the same as, or less, than a MacBook Air? This is why you don't work for Apple!

Ooh, look at all those ticks! Guess they're not really "basically the same" after all. And I didn't even mention enclosure, speakers, batt life, and whatever else there.

Yes a 13" MBP would be "nice" but as Apple have made so clear, they enjoy pidgeon holing their customers, even if they don't particularly fit. People who don't want built in monitors in their Macs HAVE to decide between a Mini or a Pro. People who want a matte portable - it's the MBP. If they want 13", they sacrifice features. I can see why they do it, keeps the product lines separate. If they introduce "dream devices" like a xMac or MBP 13", the other comparable devices will lose their identity and not sell.

I'm not saying I agree with it, just that I understand why requests like yours certainly are not worth holding out for.

You have missed the Point and You do not Know me... :)

*Shakes head* No, you can't. Not if you like money, as I imagine Apple does.

Your argument is not supported by facts. :apple: charges $200 more for a Black MB vs. a White one, strictly on color! Surely they can sell a smaller version MBP for less than the 15 inch $2000 price point and still make major profit.

I will answer your product placement issue below, but Sir or Ma'am, I do not know you and you clearly do not know me or who I have worked with at Apple, or who I am personal friends with at Apple HQ in Cupertino, California. It is all the more comical to me especially since I am famous, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area, for using Apple Products.

You have missed the point or fail to get to an actual Apple store often. Apple salespeople are trained to drive customers to the baseline MBP from the Black MB by stating the MAJOR difference is the screen size and separate graphics card. Apple 2.4 GHz, 200 HD core duo chip, Superdrive; Which laptop is this? Exactly, could be either a Mac blackbook or base MBP.

Well, this is the "What is you Dream Laptop?" thread so we are allowed to throw out personal dream laptops without worrying if they fit the current lineup...:)

Oh, do they? I thought there was a 90GB difference in HD size too. If you match the HD size in the white model, the difference is actually $100, but well done for being accurate.... or not.

The difference between black and white MacBook is more than just a different vat of paint; the finish on the black model is different too - dull matte, as opposed to glossy and scratch-prone. There are your facts.

I'm reluctant to read the rest of your... oh wait. You just pulled the "you don't know me, I'm a real big deal" line on the Internet. I'm not reading any further.

Of course you are not reading anymore:p, I call you on a line you stated as to knowing that I have never worked for Apple when you have no clue as to who I am. Now, you do not want to read the answer to your statement. Sad, you may end up learning something:D

Back to the thread; Again,it is a "Dream Laptop" thread, so give us your dream laptop. :D If you would have kept reading, you would have saw that statement... :D
