I've had three Macs up to now, and two iPods. My first Mac was the original bondi blue iMac. I bought it when the whole iNaming scheme started and the i still stood for internet. That's why I named that machine after the Greek messenger god:
Hermes. My second Mac was the first G4 iMac. I bought it just after my girlfriend got this tiny hamster. It was white and, as it would sit crawled up all the time, also somewhat of a little ball. And since my then new iMac was white and dome-shaped, I named it after the hamster:
Boris. Now I'm at my third Mac, a brand new aluminium iMac with 24" screen and a 2.8GHz Core 2 Extreme. I didn't really think about a name before I got it, but when I was installing it with a friend, the name just popped up in my head and we both thought it was made for the machine:
Brutus.
My first iPod was called
MJU, obviously because the name sounds like the first part of the word music. I still have it, but the battery won't last any longer than about 10 minutes, so it's unusable as a music player. It works well as a 40GB backup backup drive, though. My current 5G iPod is called
Nanashi. I asked several of my friends what I should call it, and this name was definitely the best. It means something like
without a name in Japanese.
Funny, discussing names for especially computers. I still don't know that many people who name their PC's...
for a while my imac was named pippin while my motorola l2 was merry since i would sync via bluetooth. (i know im a huge lotr tool)
now my imac is just named "Blue"
And is your Motorola then now called "tooth"?
OK, then...
My iMac is named Chip and my MacBook is named Albert.
Why don't you name your iMac
Einstein? Or
Heijn?!...

Sorry, but there's really only one Mac model that can ethically be named Kermit, and we all know which one that is.
