Wel, turns out I'm getting another MacBook. :) It's an Aluminum 2Ghz model too. :) My first aluminum Mac. :)

I had the same model a few months ago and let me tell you, it's the best computer I have ever owned. It was extremely durable (and I tested that after a good 3 foot fall on a tile floor), gorgeous, fast, and easy to travel with. After I sold that MacBook I have regretted it every since day since that time in December. Something about those and the latest MacBook Pro's are so elegant and well designed I find it hard to think how Apple is going to top it next time. My iMac is great and everything, but that computer was just amazing. I will say though that you'll need at least 4GB for Snow Leopard. Mine came with 2GB and it was starting to get a little bit tight, especially when browsing Safari, having a word document open, running iTunes, Mail, etc. You're really going to enjoy it, and while I did switch back briefly to Windows 7 (which is great, btw) I sold my HP yesterday and purchased a white MacBook circa 2007 for $400. It should be here any day and I'll enjoy using a MacBook again, though nothing can touch the aluminum models.

Well, turns out the guy won't sell it now because he wants more than it's worth. Oh well, I may just get a refurb 2010 MacBook out of the Apple store for crying out loud and not have to worry about it being worn out from use.

That's a damn shame, but the polycarbonate unibody MacBook's are nothing to laugh at either. They are quite a bit more sturdy feeling than the previous MacBook's were, and a great deal on the refurbished site. A few days ago they had the 2.26GHz model listed for $759 but it has since disappeared. Great deal for somebody looking for a Mac on a budget. It's alot easier to swallow at $759 than $999 IMO.

I like my pre-unibody White MacBook - feels plenty sturdy enough to me... Although it will need to replaced within the next 6 months (Early 2008 Machine, means its coming up to 3 years old, which is the time by which I aim to upgrade my Mac Laptop so I can stay within AppleCare - it helps the new 11" Airs look like theyll help my back).

I agree, I'm paying $750 for my MBP. A lot easier than $999 for a 13" MBP refurb.
And I wanted a 15" screen. :D

I loved my pre-unibody MacBook very much. To be honest, the only reason I got rid of it was because the cracks in the casing were pretty bad on the bottom edges and AppleCare only replaced the top case, not the bottom. It had 4GB of RAM and was actually quicker than my aluminum MacBook was. I just bought a 2007-era C2D MacBook myself a few days ago and I plan to max out the RAM and maybe even an SSD drive when it gets here. Best part? It only cost me $400.

Titanium PowerBook G4. Why? I just have always liked those. I even had one for about a month with broken hinges. I still used it (as my main Mac) with the broken hinges.

I definitely love this machine. When it first came out, besides it being thinner than most laptops of their time, it had that titanium body which made it very unique.

Apple has had good designs since then, but nothing as far ahead of the competition as the TiBook.

While the original iBook was not nearly the same machine as the TiBook, I love my blueberry iBook and thought the firewire clamshell iBooks that came out later to be exactly what the original iBook should have been in every way. Both firewire back then and a DVD drive for playing movies seemed so advanced for such an affordable laptop and would have sufficed for most people's expectations. I don't remember if firewire iBook also had a CD burner, but that would have been nice as an extra, too. (EDIT: oops, the combo drive option came with the white iBook that replaced the clamshell)

Now if entry level Macbook Pro gets a Core i3 to replace the still relevant Core 2 Duo, that would be nice at the current price point.

Love the idea of the Cube, but I have no use for it. I may get one anyway, I don't know. I WILL get these, however:

- iMac G4- any size screen, I just love these
- 12" Powerbook 1GHz
- Powerbook G3 Pismo

And in my dreams:
- 20th Anniversary Mac
- Macintosh TV

UPDATE: Since posting this, I've acquired three classic macs: I scored a free working Blue iMac G3 and bought a working Pismo on eBay that I'm in the process of upgrading.

And just yesterday bought a complete but non-working 12" Powerbook Al 1.33 that I'm going to try and restore.

My new Apple bucket list:

iMac G4 (any)
iBook clamshell 466
early Powerbook
MacMini (Intel)

Well my utmost priority-old mac is the awesome Titanium Powerbook G4.

I second dmmcintyre3 and 63dot claims about the TiBooks. That screen design, how it just floats. Plus I don't think I've ever seen a bezel so damn thin. So beautiful :D

I bought one for AU$150 a few months ago, in near pristine condition. 1Ghz with a gig of RAM and I believe an upgraded 80GB HDD. That thing flew, with not one mark on the exterior paint work  though for some reason (forget why) I sold it for a considerable amount not long after. I have been in search for one ever since, though nothing has cropped up of yet :(. I wouldn't go lower than the 867mHz model personally, as the option to run Leopard is nice (if I decide to go beyond Tiger on a machine).
It's the sale I most regret :(

My old Macs as of today:
Sawtooth G4/400 with Panther/Tiger
Quicksilver 2002 G4/933 with Tiger/Leopard
*Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8Ghz with Tiger/Leopard (with the beast nVidia 6800 Ultra DLL)

_______
2009 13" Macbook Pro for my Intel fix  with SL/Lion

*I dumped an old 400GB 5400rpm laptop HDD into it, and it scores higher in Geekbench (1616) under Tiger than Leopard does under the 7200rpm desktop HDD (1585)

Funky thread!

I actually never wanted a PowerPC Mac, or older for that matter. I flirted with the idea of a Mac many times over the pre-Intel years, but even my best friend getting her G4 mini didn't sway me.

Then the Intel mini came out and I was hooked. I suppose it's the Mac I'd always wanted. It's the original Core Duo and I'll never get rid of it, it's just too cool. The old minis had something about them that the new slice of aluminium (with no optical drive... in a desktop... come on) severely lacks.

But really the Mac I've always wanted is the one that's coming out next. I'm always looking to the future, always wondering what Apple are going to unleash down the line. Now the 13" MacBook Air has a backlit keyboard again I'm sorely tempted to get that in the next couple of months, but I'd really like something with integrated 3G. Ho hum.

It's funny, my 2007 MBP has a sentimental value I don't think I could let go of. It's awesome. Despite my Rev A MBA feeling a million times faster, hence why I use it over the MBP (god love SSDs), I could quite happily give it away when I'm done with it.

I bet the first generation 11" Airs become collectors items like 12" PowerBooks did.

I thought about that also, but I think the 12" PBs were classics only because they were discontinued and until 2010 were the smallest metal laptops Apple had made.

So unless the MBAs are discontinued (which I doubt they will be), my guess is that the early ones will not become classics.

TiBooks have always been fantastic machines; I love how the unibody MBPs are somewhat reminisiqent of the TiBooks, black keys and all.

I miss mine dearly, a 400MHz unit signed by Woz (thankfully, I still have the signed bottom case)... If I find a good price on one, perhaps I'll spring for it. I'd love a clean 1GHz unit with the Radeon 9000.

I have always wanted an Apple II since I was a little boy and gazed longingly at them in my local computer shop. I keep an eye out on ebay and some day would love a full set up including two drives and a monitor perched precariously on top of the machine.

My iMac G4 is my collector piece currently.
I recently found someone with an Apple II in working condition that he wants to get rid of. Just gotta wait until payday to get it. *sigh*
I got rid of my unibody MacBook a couple months ago and I already regret it.

And for the longest time I've wanted an iMac G3

The G3 PowerMac....what a beautiful case!
The Cube...also, loved the glass!
The Blue iMac, just like the picture above, so beautiful!
The iMac special edition DV...cause Im a imovie fanatic
The titanium powerbook, to power a CRT monitor...hate LCD
The white macbook, also, loved its design
The MacMini 2010, I can finally have my PC in the palm of my hand

I own the last 2...
