Saw World War Z a few days ago. I enjoyed it. Zombie movies have certainly stepped up in the world when actors like Brad Pitt are starring in them. My wife said it was nothing like the book, but she understands how much they had to change to make a book that is a collection of stories into a flowing plot line with a main character. I thought it was entertaining and well done.

Watched Lincoln last night, and I thought it was fantastic. Some parts dragged, but the acting was top-notch.

Also saw Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters a couple days ago with my niece. We both enjoyed the first one, but this one was terrible.

Not usually a zombie movie fan, but caught this at the pictures a while back. Found it to be quite enjoyable.

Missed this post. I like Charade too! An outstanding 60's movie and you can watch it on Netflicks!

Is Arabesque also on Netflicks? (Not a subscriber, ...yet.) Same Director: Sydney Donen and starring Gregory Peck & Sophia Loren. I read it won an Oscar and other awards for cinematography. It's along similar lines as Charade, possibly same screenwriters and Cary Grant was first choice.

It's not in iTunes so I may tough it out and watch it dubbed in German on YT. It's worth it to listen to the dubbed version of Gregory Peck's "Yes indeedy doodle-do" when he first meets Sophia Loren. :)

I have a streaming account and it's not available there. And I find this a really pissy policy that if you have a Netflix streaming account, the site won't give you any info about a movie that might be available on DVD, as a means of tempting you to join their DVD plan too. No problem, I just log into my Blockbuster account where it shows that it is available on DVD.

im watching white house down! and its not suppose to funny but its was pretty funny compared to olympus has fallen

Gawd, Olympus Has Fallen made me vomit in my mouth a bit.

Spoilers!

Watched Olympus Has Fallen last night. If you can maintain some suspension of disbelief regarding the setup and a variety of issues, how they could organize such a well supported, undetected group to assault the White House, and how I seriously doubt, in an emergency, they would take foreigners into the bunker along with the President, it was a decent action flick. IMO, the key to implausibility of this story is not that a group, with the luxury of a circling gatling gun C130 overhead, could not attack and even get into the White House, it was the bunker access.

Besides the implausibility of the "Cerberus System", I don't see the U.S. moving it's fleet, abandoning S.Korea or neutering it's nuclear arsenal to save the President. In the situation portrayed in this movie, I believe he would be expendable. So I got a little perturbed when Morgan Freeman kept saying "we have to save the President!" as if that was more important than regional stability and National defense. And the President "give them the code"! Noted, the lead character reminded them that there was an interim functional President.

One other possibly serious plot discrepancy, (I got up for a drink) how did they get Cerberus System activated with only 2 of the 3 codes I thought they needed?? And that automated Hydra 6 System, if the terrorists were not have supposed to have brought it with them, (seemed to massive to tote in, along with the rising platform and integration into the White House structure) why did the Whitehouse not use it to shoot down that pesky C-130, because flares don't stop bullets. Ok, dependencies mounting... but nice integration with the White House location. I'm surprised they let them trash it in that fashion for a movie. :p Apparently for the movie they built a White House Replica in Bossier City, Louisiana near Shreveport. (link)

Bad day for the Secret Service

Also watched A.I., what a good, but sad movie. I've seen it before. I thought the space-time continuum explanation of why a clone could pick up memories from an individual on a specific track, but could only live for one day was interesting. Most sad, it was the machines that would outlive us as an extinct species.

My boys and I are watching Epic for the second time. It's full of adventure, although sometimes I get tired of the bad guys being the worst evil in the world, etc, etc. Overall, it seems it was enough scary without being too scary, and the challenge for the heroes is worth watching.

Just watched Toy Story 3 with my nephew once again last weekend. It was funny and interedsting.

"The claaaaaawwww!!!" :D I like that they made it kid-friendly but still really funny for adults.

----------

Watched The Watch the other day. Absolutely horrendous waste of my time. With a cast including Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Ben Stiller, I thought it would have some good laughs, but it wasn't funny in the least.

rent Lords of Salem

I am hoping to get to see world war z and lords of salem

Lords of Salem: I didn't like it even with my Eurohorror lovin' background, but if you must see it, rental is the best way to go.

Speaking of not liking: Bridesmaids. this mean spirited toilet/raunch 'humor' just isn't my thing. I still have a wicked sense of humor, just not that type of humor.

Caught Men in Black 3 again after Bridesmaids... it is still fun.

Toy Story(1-3) are probably the most amazing series of animated movies with both child and adult appeal and engaging stories. This does not happen on a regular basis.

I've always viewed "toilet/raunch" humor as just an excuse for not being able to be really/traditionally funny in movies but especially for stand up comics. I really appreciate Dumb and Dumber and Something about Mary, both fine examples of stupid/slapstick, but not gross humor although SaM has a couple of shock shots. Humor such as Braidesmaids has crossed the disgusting line into mostly raunch.

Watched Now You See It and The Bling Ring. Both horrible for different reasons. Bling Ring is practically unwatchable. Another movie that is mainly just a series of montages. Watch the kids party, watch them rob a house...no dialogue, rinse and repeat.

Berberian Sound Studio

(again)...

you have to be a fan of giallos* and/or audio creation, foley, mixing to fully enjoy this. *U.K. actress Suzy Kendall guest screams through this (she was in several gialli) so that's an audio treat.

It's slow but wonderfully moody watch. Tobey Jones is excellent as meek sound man are the various cast members including all the folks who played the cranky Italians at the titular studio. You'll never see the film being dubbed but you'll hear it.

No idea what kind of troops are on standby for quick response in defense of the White House.

I don't know what kind of Army forces are in the area, but I do know there is an infantry unit of US Marines right there.

Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., also known as "8th & I," is the oldest active post in the Marine Corps. It was founded by President Thomas Jefferson and Lt. Col. William Ward Burrows, the third commandant of the Marine Corps, in 1801.

Located on the corners of 8th & I Streets in southeast Washington, D.C., the Barracks supports both ceremonial and security missions in the nation's capital.

The Barracks is home to many nationally recognized units, including the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, the Marine Band, the official Marine Corps Color Guard, and the Marine Corps Body Bearers. It is also the site of the Home of the Commandants, which, along with the Barracks, is a registered national historic landmark.

Oblivion with Tom cruise. Moon was better watch it and you'll know why I compared the two. Watched Star Trek into darkness. Good follow up to the reboot movie. Loads of winks to original trek both obvious and nerd-level.
