Yeah, I did too; amongst other things (killing off Scott WTH?!?)

If I can say something polite besides liking Kelsey Grammer as Beast, at least Jean's demise dovetailed nicely into The Wolverine.

Watched Pacific Rim for the first time since seeing it in the theater. I still like Mako's character and the concept of the Jaegers, but I lost interest whenever both Charlies were on screen (Hunnam and Day.)

I think their intent was to provoke XMan Comic readers... :p There was a time when a movie like Pacific Rim would have impressed me, but now I'm beyond it. I don't even remember how it ended.

If you can tell I'm drawn to SciFi and am often disappointed. Trashed Earth, the top .1% living in the lap of luxury on an extravagant space station. It was really nice! :) But I was wondering how they held the atmosphere in? Some future technology, I'm sure.

This movie had a good story premise, but the plot felt half baked. I was not really drawn to Matt Damon's character and did not care if he lived or died. Some decent effects which blended in well without being obtrusive, but the execution of the story did not click for me.

Hay we have a fake ID for you, and because it seems completely unplausible that you'll fit in with your grubby Earth clothes, you'll probably crash land, then have to dash with the Elysium authorities hot on your trail, break into someones home while not being noticed, and use a healing table (for the myriad of Earth based ailments you have) before the authorities arrest you and send you off to jail for the rest of your life. Hey, I've been exposed to a fatal dose of radiation, get me up there so I can use a machine before anyone notices the trail of destruction I leave behind....

I guess that's possible... :p

Of these movies, 12YAS was excellent, American Hustle and Gravity are high priorities on my list to see. I don't consider WWZ to be all that good.

Consider me provoked. :p

Yeah, I agree with Pacific Rim. I was impressed with the Jaegers and feeling like I was inside one, but the storyline just did not hold up.

LOLOL. I was gung ho for Elysium until I realized it was a message movie that was blatant and not subtle or clever like some of John Carpenter's films (particularly They Live which handled the haves vs. the have nots in a funny and clever way.)

I did not really buy Matt Damon either in what few scenes I saw.

Oh well.

Hopefully something next year will deliver. I am starting to get a little curious about Guardians of the Galaxy (if they can match that Star Lord mini series from 2008 in tone/humor, great.), but outside of that and the Captain America/Hobbit sequels I have no idea what else is opening next year.

I am debating whether or not to see Prisoners. Eventually I think.

I saw a slew of movies over the past week (PPV, rented, theater).

Anchorman 2 - Steve Carell was star funnyman, but the rest of the cast ruined it. Terrible acting (seemingly on purpose, but it didn't lend to the comedy at all), and equally terrible premise. There were a bunch of big name cameos, but they were senseless, and by the end, the only thought on my mind was "what the f* is happening?" Easily one of the worst movies I saw this year.

Fruitvale Station - The first 3/4 of the movie is very artificial, trying to create an emotional connection to the main character, but it just drags out, and its a bit boring. A lot of scenes were clearly fabricated and forced, even though it's "based on a true story." The last 1/4 almost makes up for it, but not quite, and the sheer brutality takes you by surprise.

Warrior - Excellent. I was torn between rooting for the two main characters, as they are on opposite sides, but it was great.

Don Jon - Surprisingly better than I expected, and not the type of movie I would imagine JGL to be in, let alone create. I didn't think it would have any message to it, but it did (unattainable fantasies, porn vs romance movies, what's accepted by society, etc). Worth a watch, but not with your kids. :p

Paranormal Activity 4 - I think this series is progressing from scary into downright weird. A lot of things just don't add up, and like previous movies, there is a lot of waiting before the good stuff starts happening. Overall, it was alright, but it wasn't as good as the others (which have all gone steadily downhill since the first, in my opinion).

On my must-see list before 2014: American Hustle and Wolf of Wall Street. :)

I'm a sucker for SciFi. Will I be dissapointed or will this be the best thing ever!? :p

I'll see Don Jon sometime.

Just got back from seeing the next installment of The Hobbit. I thought it was great fun. :D

I'm mad at the Hobbit. :p

Watched Taken 2. Not as good as the first, although Liam kicks lots more Albanian butt all over Istanbul. This guy is like 65 years old. He has aged well.

See that building in the poster? Everytime I see it, I say that's is where they filmed Topkapi! :):)

Let's hope for a very good thing re: Guardians. :p

I have weird issues with the Hobbit > there are elements I love and elements I cannot stand. To me, PJ and co. should have stayed away from this like they wanted to. Ah well. I'm there for the DoS and TABA EEs. Hoping there will be something of a very good movie in those 9 hours.

The World's End, following close on the heals of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Nick Frost is slowly growing on me, after watching his character in Shaun. ;)

The spin of the space station which gives the illusion of gravity to those dwelling on it would also keep the atmosphere in.

Neil Blomkamp is known for his hyper-realism mixed with political metaphor. A space station with only mansions in it is there to emphasize the gape between the two societies.

Overall I really enjoyed it. Yes I'll give you there are some strange situations that would never go over but it works within the storyline.

When I was a kid I had this book:

Inside there were some illustrations by John Berkey and Syd Mead of a torus style space colony from which the director got his inspiration. Some amazing design work in this movie.

Its about as watchable as District 9 which I thought was pretty good too. :)

Earlier today I noticed that Riddick was available on iTunes early so I bought it. I'm about to start watching it now. I hope I like it as much as I did Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick.

Pitch Black, imho, wasn't that great at all. It didn't explain anything about Riddick being a Furion or anything. The Chronicles of Riddick was bad ass. Let me know if Riddick is worth the purchase.

I thought it was well worth the purchase. I enjoyed the movie immensely. It was actually sort of a combination of Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick and I felt they pulled it off well.
