I watched "Out Of The Furnace" two nights ago, and "Nebraska" last night.

Both were very good, and I shant comment for long, but Out of the Furnace was terrific fun with Woody, and Nebraska, well, Bruce Dern is a wonderful actor. I recommend both!

I've not seen Out of the Furnace. I think Nebraska appeals to those who like low key human interest stories. It was ok. I thought Philomena and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel were better but neither were great. Great status is usually when I'm willing to watch it multiple times. :)

I still need to see the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel... Havent gotten around to it yet. I did recently see the Grand Budapest Hotel, though. haha, got my fill of hotel movies-- after "Four Rooms", cause Tim Roth is a favorite of mine :)

FYI, Marigold vs Budapest are completely different kinds of stories. Budapest is a highly stylized fantasy, comedy of sorts based on some level of intrigue. It's not realistic but a flight of fancy. I disliked it. Instead I'd point you at Life of Pi, far superior. Marigold is a more grounded story regarding what can be considered realistic human interest and mature relationships. It was better.

August: Osage County (2013)- Omg, whichever critic, if it was a critic that had the nerve to call this movie a "dark, hilarious, and deeply touching story" has some nerve, regarding the word "hilarious", I also question "deeply touching". I suggest substituting the word "tragedy" instead. Sure some characters chuckle as they relate some sad story about other family members, between the fights, insults, and family revelations, but that's the only laughs you'll hear. More reminiscent of Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf, but WAOVW is much better.

Yes an excellent cast and acting, but if you find yourself too happy, turn to this real downer of a movie to bring you back down to the land of family hell. I'm still watching it so I'll report back if there is a happy ending... Nope. :p

Maybe you accidentally read the critique of the 2007 play and thought it was for the movie?

What did you think of Meryl Streep's performance?

I'll be interested in your impressions of this film.

I found it lacking a good script, wooden acting, and uninspired direction. The only notable thing was the SFX...which were fairly advanced for the time it was made.

But, as usual, that's just my view...:D;)

I've seen it before as a kid/teen. While you're right, the script and such weren't the best, it still has a fond memory and endearing quality of it from watching it while growing up, before I understood or cared about scripts and quality acting. :p

Fully understood...childhood responses to music, films, etc. are enduring. We certainly change as we age...

Trust me on that aging thing!:mad:

This critique is completely of my origination. :) All performances were excellent, but I hate it when movies are misrepresented, I presume to get you into the theater. Fortunately I streamed it.

So it was my expectations that were dashed, this is the primary source of my critique, the word "hilarious" being used, and my wife cried. :p I would have preferred the movie to be described as a dark, dismal portrait of a troubled family without any hilarity, damaged people, the only humor when the daughters sit around and debate the best way to label their Mother's vagina. ;) All of the family dynamics appear realistic, it just dishonest to mislabel a movie like this, and best to walk in with you eyes wide open to what you are subjecting yourself too. If looking for something dark and funny I'd check out some of the titles on this list, but even some of those should not be labeled "dark comedies". I don't consider A Clockwork Orange or Fargo to be comedies.

If any good came from it, it provoked some discussion about our own families, but I'll clarify in no way did it represent the train wreck portrayal of this family. :)

Ice Station Zebra (1968)
Commander James Ferraday, USN, has new orders: get David Jones, a British civilian, Captain Anders, a tough Marine with a platoon of troops, Boris Vasilov, a friendly Russian, and the crew of the nuclear sub USS Tigerfish to the North Pole to rescue the crew of Drift Ice Station Zebra, a weather station at the top of the world. The mission takes on new and dangerous twists as the crew finds out that all is not as it seems at Zebra, and that someone will stop at nothing to prevent the mission from being completed.

OK. I wanted to know what you thought of Streep because I've read some critics criticized her performance saying she was exaggerating. I thought it wasn't like Meryl Streep to be over-the-top in her performance, generally. I love her acting.

She portrayed a troubled, physically sick, addicted, individual quite well, I thought based somewhat on my experience with an alcoholic father. I can easily imagine a character like the one she portrayed- bitter, flawed, afraid of dying, feeling abandoned, and an addict which adds to the intensity of her actions. I bought it. :)

I remember watching it as a teen as well. It was ok, nothing compared to Star Wars which came out 2 years earlier.

The original Star Wars is one of the biggest treats of my movie going life. I saw it multiple times in the theater on its first run. I get chills every time I see images from it. I may have to break this out to watch. :)

I was 11 when Star Wars came out. I remember nagging my mother constantly to take me and my friends to the theater to see it. I must have seen it at least a dozen times in the theater.

Oh yes, Star Wars! I love them, old and new. Those were real treats when I got to see them as a young child.

Transformers 4: Age of Extinction - Lots of big action scenes and really great visuals, but the story was practically nonexistent, and the dialogue was eye-roll worthy. Despite having seen it last night, I would have trouble putting together a single comprehensible sentence summarizing just what this movie was about. Completely deserving of its RT score. Sorta fun but an ultimately forgettable 3 hours. I'm not sure what else to expect from a Michael Bay movie anymore.

Aside from the special effects, I haven't heard much good about this movie. I saw the first two Transformers movies a while ago and about all that I remember of the second one was, "how much longer until this is over?"

I felt the same about this one. There hasn't been a movie I've seen recently where I've checked the time this often, starting about 45 minutes in, just waiting for the movie to end.

I liked the first two... I remember the 3rd one being so frantic it was hard at times to keep a handle on what was happening. I really liked Michel Bay from The Island.
