American Sniper: I thought this was a pretty mild film. The editing wasn't that great (so many cuts in some scenes). I like Bradley Cooper overall but his acting was so standard it's a travesty he even got nominated over some other people for an Oscar. Not his fault, it's just the character he played was so boring. Overall the movie wasn't bad but wasn't that great either. Typical Eastwood for me.

Inherent Vice: This was a pretty confusing movie and I have to admit I need to watch it a second time, but I did like it. I'm a fan of Joaquin Phoenix and I thought he acted pretty well in it. I could see some people saying it was sloppy in its plot; I think that was a conscious decision by the director based on the type of movie and the era it took place in (california in the 70s)

Selma: This was a great film. David Oyelowo played a pretty convincing MLK. Well directed. For example, I especially liked the shot of Lyndon Johnson and MLK standing opposite of one another talking about the voting act while a portrait of George Washington was above them sort of overlooking both of them.

Boyhood: Think this might be the most overrated movie this year. It was cool to see kids grow up in real time, but this movie had no plot, didn't feel any connection to any characters, and the acting wasn't there either. If it had been shot normally (and not this 12 year project), I doubt it would get any recognition. As someone born in 1992, it was cool to see references to things that I remember growing up with (popular music or current events) on screen, but they were mostly gimmicks. People say that it represents real life: most of it is boring and the film was boring so I guess it portrayed that pretty accurately.

If you have kids and you haven't seen Paddington yet, you are making a serious mistake!

It is a brand new classic, full of charm, whimsy and laugh out loud humor. It is timeless like all the great kids movies, rather than being dependent on c-list celebrities and fart jokes. Additionally, it is enjoyable by parents too! There was plenty of humor that flies over kids' heads and is truly funny for adults.

(Also, not that I put much stock in Rotten Tomatoes, but for those who pay attention to aggregate ratings, Paddington is at 98% fresh - - the highest score in months.)

John Wick - Delivers a lot of action but not much story-wise. Very similar to The Equalizer though. Perfect if you want a fun movie where you can turn off your brain for a couple hours.

The Conversation (1974) - I thought it was great. It builds up very slowly, and doesn't disappoint. If you're paranoid about being spied on though, it's probably not the movie for you. :p

Well it's time to utterly gorge on Captain America: The Winter Soldier again. Watching it for 2nd time in a day thanks to Starz. Definitely won't be the last either. :D

@impulse462 - Inherent Vice is definitely filmed in the manner you thought. I haven't seen it yet, but I will probably see the film before I finish the novel. The novel is engrossing but extremely disorienting. And I think the director is channeling that disoriented vibe (as well as Pynchon's dialogue) too.

Star Wars III. This is like a b-movie for kids.

Wtf did George Lucas do to the Star Wars series?

Would've been less disgraceful if they would've just turned it into a porn movie.
And that is not even a joke!

Just saw Boyhood. The movie rambles for a little while, but its amazing to see these kids grow up in front of you. I almost took it for granted what I was seeing but 12 years are passing in little over 2 hours. The messages in the film a very subtle but its about overcoming cynicism and letting go of what you can't control and enjoying life's moments. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I didn't have kids.

Watched a few movies in the past couple weeks:

The Skeleton Twins - A few laughs here and there, but a bit more depressing than expected. Not a movie I'd want to watch again.

The Guest - I thought this was really good. Some parts were predictable, but most of it kept me guessing and entertained.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For - Visually excellent, as expected, and star cast. But by the end, I felt like.. what did I just watch? I mean, I understood the story (or more like a few short stories put together haphazardly), but its execution was a mess.

Taken 3 - I thought this was better than Taken 2, which isn't saying much (at least there weren't any grenades being thrown from rooftops), but still far, far behind the original. A lot of missed potential here.

A Walk Among the Tombstones - Last of my Liam Neeson marathon.. I liked it for the most part. Kind of reminded me of True Detective (the HBO series).

A Most Wanted Man - It's gotten good reviews, I think mostly because it was Philip Seymour Hoffman's final role (and he played the part very well). But I was actually quite bored through much of it. It picked up toward the end, but the whole thing left me feeling meh.

Inherent The Wind (1960)- Excellent movie, with Fredric March and Spencer Tracy based on a 1955 play, a fictionaled account of the Scopes Monkey Trial with Clearance Darrow and William Jennings Bryan that took place 1925, an early fight in the history of the U.S. about teaching evolution in schools. Great performances! :D

Watching Safe House. I've seen the start of it before, but fell asleep (more of a reflection of me than the film).
I'd give it 6 out of 10. If you like the Bourne films, you'll probably like this. It's not as good though IMO.

This hit me during the Dooku fight. The editing, the (i dont even know what it is) bark from palpatine. the unnecessary flips. just so bad

Also @kazmac, I figured as much. I'll watch it again when it becomes available to rent.

I don't know who was fighting who.
I could only sit through 20minutes of this mess.

I wish it would have only been the editing!
The writing and dialogue made me crinch. Like a bunch of (untalented) highschool juniors wrote this.
Then those cheap computer animations and the non existent storyline.

And who casted these people?
That unknown dude who plays Anikan Skywalker belongs in a surf flick, as an extra.
Ewan McGregor was miscast for his role.
And Samuel L. Jackson as a ****ing Jedimaster? Seriously?

What whas George Lucas smoking?

I am really dumbfounded how bad this was.

In the Heat of the Night (again). You can figure that the Philadelphia cop Virgil Tibbs (Sidney Poitier), having visited his mama in Mississippi, was lucky he wasn’t carrying when he was busted by the white patrol cop for being black while waiting for a train. His biggest crime turned out to be the fact he was getting paid 162.39 a week up north and so had more than a hundred bucks on him, along with a badge the Mississippi patrol cop had failed to notice.

I love the first glimpse we get of Rod Steiger as the chief of police. The gum chewing!

Considering the franchise was modelled on 1930's movie serials, that is high praise indeed!

(I'm still surprised to hear some people don't appreciate the consciously b-movie vibe. III was one of the best films of the series, and will look even better once JJ Abrams gets done decimating it's legacy.)

What 1930s series?

StarWars III is not consciously bad. It's just bad.

What makes you think he'll ruin the series? It honestly can't get worse than 1 2 and 3. Not only were those movies bad, but fundamental stuff like writing and dialogue (as previously mentioned) were lacking.

It's the worst because that was the movie that showed his transformation to vader. Ep 2 was bad, but not much happened so you think it might be a "filler" for the series and 3 was the climax but just poorly executed.

A Most Violent Year

Solid movie. Some people said they thought it was too slow but I tend to like slower movies. Jessica Chastain is good in it, but Oscar Isaacs acting glues the whole movie together and its really impressive. I've been a fan of his since Inside Llewyn Davis and he doesn't disappoint here. Great watch.

I really liked that movie first time I saw it. Thought I had the DVD here but it must have gotten away from me, so of course I hadn't thought about it in a long time. It's available on Prime instant Video so I'm going to watch it again. Thanks for mentioning!
