Nah, always interesting to read (although I do have difficulties keeping up with most of these names to be honest).

It's not even the price but overall availablity. Most of the SB stuff is region one only, period. Not much I can do about it. They should get rid of that altogether - not much 21. century like.

And I fear that you can't convince me to watch a Jackie Chan movie on purpose - unfortunately I have strong prejudices like that. ;)

LOL. I am also very stubborn like that with movies and such - I think this will be sorely tested in my university course work (I have no idea what this introductory film criticism course will throw at me.) Re: Jackie Chan: I wasn't thrilled especially after sitting through 3 that hard core fans gushed about. I thought, oh great 2 minute fight but the rest... I love old school kung fu films (like any other genre, I seem to zero in on the 60s, 70s and 80s and then it falls off.)

I'm still learning the Chinese names myself, so beautiful and so many. I promise I'll refrain from posting more than 3 in a post though. It's the acting and the martial ability that makes some gents really stand out to me (I only know two women by name and look and skill besides Michelle Yeoh.)

Actually I know Wild Side from France released several Shaw Brothers films, but I don't think there were English options. According to some fans in France those are super expensive now.

I agree the region by region is ridiculous and what's worse is that Apple's super drives only allow you to change regions 5 times. It's just a money maker and control more than anything else. Still, it's a royal pain.

Watched superman vs batman last night. It was good but could have been better. I was expecting a lot of interesting stuff.

Looking forward to watching The Force Awakens (again) tonight, in the comfort of our home. Also planning on watching Macbeth this weekend.

Heard mixed reviews about Batman v Superman, but I still want to see it.

Terminator Salvation. I prefer this to terminator 3. Arnie was just too old by then.

Mind you I was reading about the new Blade Runner movie and thinking the same thing about Harrison Ford. Fair enough with Indy he is human and getting old, but it doesn't work so well when your lead role is supposed to be a cyborg.

His human flesh coating is getting old. :D Hopefully for Ford, he will take on some grandpa role, like the old retired guy whose Grandson (Shia LaBeouf) has some link to the new story.

Earthquake (1974)
Various stories of various people as an earthquake of un-imagineable magnitude hits Los Angeles.

All the Colours of the Dark (1972) Near perfect Italian Satanic cult thriller which trips up on miscasting and the coda that tries to make everything which came before it moot.

Poor Jane (Edwige Fenech) is suffering from the trauma of a miscarriage after an awful car accident. Her husband (the always disinterested and bland George Hilton) often travels as a vitamin salesman, her sister pushes psychotherapy on Jane and no one seems to care how her nightmares seem to be encroaching upon her reality. Namely the blue-eyed killer (the awesomely spooky Ivan Rassimov) from her nightmares now seems to manifest everywhere Jane goes. After narrowly escaping him in the Tube (one of the film's great set pieces), Jane meets a weird neighbor Mary who says her troubles were all solved as soon as Mary joined... yes, a Satanic coven.

Naturally, Jane goes along with this absolutely crappy advice and joins the cult. Jane soon discovers the killer from her nightmares is one of the high-ranking members of the cult and the only way out is death.

Interestingly this film touches a lot of the self help, weird cult trends of the day (vitamins, psychotherapy and Satanic cults oh my!) Someone as emotionally troubled as Jane needed support and falls prey to the worse possible scenario. Of course, the screenwriter and/or director had conflicting thoughts about the whole cult business and tries to sweep that under the rug with a weak rethink late in the film. If it weren't for the last few seconds redeeming that rethink along with Ivan Rassimov, I probably wouldn't still enjoy this as much as I have over the past decade plus.

I'd love to see Arrow Video release a nice blu ray of this one. It deserves the upgrade (along with director Sergio Martino's earlier giallo, The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh.)

One of the better zombie movies IMO.

My opinion of this movie is 'ugh'. The first half before they introduced the creatures was pretty solid, then it went to hell-in-a-handbasket with a rubbery CGI-creature-a-thon (BTW, they're supposed to be vampires ...) that destroyed the entire concept of the brilliant Richard Matheson novel. I'm generally not one of those "the book is better" people, it's a different medium, different scale, etc., but wow, they missed the whole point.

It's like if Moby Dick ended with Ahab and the whale having brunch together ...

Sure, without the original, we don't get the 3 re-make-quels. And, arguably, American audiences wouldn't have been introduced to Mel Gibson. Still, the movie is only maybe campy. Without campy, we're just left with violent, slow and strange, and no Bruce Spence.

Pixels (2015) finally came up on my rotation. I didn't think it was as bad as the critics say, not that it was very good. But, if you grew up in the early 80s, it brings back a lot of memories about bad games and bad music. And bad hair. Really typical Adam Sandler movie- a bunch of his friends help tell a mediocre story where he gets to finally be the hero, get the girl and save the planet. At least it wasn't the "Little Nicky" or "Big Daddy" terrible Adam Sandler.

For me, this is only Mad Max film I'd watch again. For Hugh Keayes-Bryne's on point perf as Toe Cutter (I liked him in Fury Road, but I wasn't afraid of Immortan Joe, Toe Cutter still freaks me out a bit.) Such a bastard. In this case, I prefer violent, slow and strange over Bruce Spence. :p While I respect George Miller and think he's brilliant, the ultra violence and bizarre near future of this film feels almost real. I often shy away from realism but I thought the chaos and disorder in MM was quite effective because I could see something like this happening.

Yeah, but you like kung-fu movies, :p. I would say that's bad, except for years friends and I would get together specifically to watch cheesy kung-fu movies. There is no greater talent of a marital artist except to make your beard go "Kapish!" whenever you flick it to either side.

There are so many great lines to the "Road Warrior" and "Beyond Thunderdome" that they'll always hold a special place in my heart: Gyro Captain: "my snake. I trained him, I'm gonna eat him" or, as Max pulls the bolt from Pig-Killer's leg: Max-"On Three", "One" RIIIPPPPP. Pig Killer: "What happened to two?".

Gotta go, time for "The Road Warrior" fully with Bruce Spence".

LOL. Touche. :p I'm glad people enjoy Bruce Spence and that lighter world. For me, it just doesn't work but that's what makes discussing films so interesting. It's always nice to hear an opposing opinion.

And I happily admit to loving a lot of really bad movies, kung fu or otherwise.

Lizard in a Woman's Skin (1971) This is my favorite Lucio Fulci film and having just christened the newly released blu ray, I was delighted to catch visuals and cues I'd never seen before, despite watching this film at least a dozen times prior to today. I was also happy to see that the police in this particular giallo were not entirely clueless.

If you've only seen Fulci's zombies films, he made some excellent thrillers including one which nodded to Hitchcock prior to this film. Lizard... is all about class, power and what happens when a greedy secret lover tries to blackmail their wealthy significant other. Is the daughter of a politically inclined British attorney the murderer of her decadent, druggie hippie lover? Or not?

On a psychological level (both visually and in the literal thriller script analysis) this is very entertaining. I still think the fake dog evisceration moment is pointless though. Of the Italian giallo and subsequent horror directors, I think Fulci had the best eye for creating nightmares the viewer gets pulled into. While his later film The Beyond makes very little sense and is almost pure nightmare, the retelling of the daughter's encounter with her lover Julia only gets more intense and starkly beautiful as more of this encounter is revealed. It's also somewhat disorienting, which is the whole point of the film to sway the viewer away from the reality.

Interestingly, many of the Italian directors working in westerns, horror and giallos hated the whole concept of hippies and I wouldn't be surprised if Fulci was one of those who disliked the counterculture as this film clearly has a little fun with the older elite thumbing their noses at the younger generation. To be fair, no one (young or older) is really treated fairly in this film and that's the sign of a good giallo. Everyone is a suspect no matter what side of the bed they woke up on.

I went camping this weekend and since I was going to be dealing with sub freezing temps (mid teens), I thought this was a good movie to put on my iPad :)

Now this movie is based on Krakauer's Into thin air, which I read and really enjoyed (and in fact I may re-read now).

The movie left me wanting more, in a bad way. The story line was too one dimensional and barely touches on some of the mistakes and issues that led to the tragedy. Overall, I was left disappointed.

...I happen to dig the King of Fists and Dollars as it has two of my favorite fu people (Chan Wai Man and David Chiang) being upstaged by a lovely lady. It's not a great movie, but CWM being so smug and kicking so much butt is awesome.).

Agreed. :D

Just watched the first 25min and gladly took the first opportunity to switch off, lol. Does it magically get better down the road? Because I have about zero incentive to continue watching.

good movie..
For me, it is an okay movie, not great. I have to agree with @D.T. and his assessment a few posts back of the "zombies" behavior and rubbery look to them and all the CGI work in it. It, again to me, isn't on par with what I expect out of zombie flicks.

Now a great film, IMO, is the last one I posted above, Casablanca.
