not really a movie i suppose...

Deadpool again. I really liked "X-Men Wolverine goes back in time", but to just sit down and watch something, Deadpool is probably my favorite superhero movie, maybe even better than Mystery Men.

Monster Trucks is a great old school kids adventure movie! It has a surprising logical sci-fi premise that oil drilling cracked into a subterranean environment where oil eating creatures have evolved, releasing them to the surface. Then the classic government bad guys against the resourceful kids plot kicks into high gear. The actors (especially the leads: Lucas Till, Jane Levy, and Thomas Lennon) are very good and know just how over the top the story requires them to play it. The CGI is well blended into the movie, making for believable and adorable "monsters". I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and my 9 year old self would have already been lining up to rewatch it. A

The New York Times review awarded it the coveted NYT Critic's Pick, plus it received an A on CinemaScore, the movie exit polling service.

Here's a review that gives an idea of the vibe the movie's aiming for:

"When Paramount unveiled the first trailer for “Monster Trucks”–a movie that is literally about monsters inside oversized trucks–the Internet rejoiced with teeth bared. Mockery and jeering were unleashed so vicious and vociferous that months ahead of its release, the studio braced for the family-friendly adventure to bomb spectacularly. But the Internet was wrong. It was smug and quick to judge, deriding the film — admittedly one with a ridiculous premise actually dreamed up by a four-year-old — for daring to be different.

Yet, “Monster Trucks” is a movie the Internet should love. Imaginative and wonderful, it pays unexpected homage to the gloriously odd kids’ movies of the 1990s. Think about the films children grew up loving in that era. Their premises were gleefully stupid. “Encino Man” was about a caveman attending a California high school. “Free Willy” followed a lonely boy as he befriends then frees a killer whale. And “Surf Ninjas” — well, you get the picture. These movies were not made to impress critics, but to kick the imaginations of children into giddy overdrive. And we ate them up for all their strangeness and zeal. “Monster Trucks” doesn’t traffic in the overt nostalgia of allusion shots, dialogue parodies, or Easter Egg-laced set design. Instead, it brilliantly resurrects the sincerity and joy of those movies, never apologizing for its ludicrous premise." Cont'd...

I'm a huge Mystery Men (1999) fan who could not bear to put this part of my reply in The Worst Movie thread, so I moved it to here. I love the humor (this is a comedy) and alternate reality where wannabe heroes actually make a difference despite their limits. :)

About to pop a vein, Mr. Furious
...and more! I was sad The Waffler did not make the team. :D
Honorable mention to Spleen.

I love The Sphinx bit. :)
The Sphinx: He who questions training only trains himself at asking questions.
Mr Furious: "and why am I wearing watermelons on my feet?" The Sphinx:"I don't remember telling you to do that"

Last night, Rogue One. I much preferred how it wasn't a remake of an earlier film, but this one was pretty dark.

Mechanic/Resurrection - ive seen alot of movies cause im a movie fanatic but this has to be the movie with the fastest storyline. it has good action but its kinda like a James bond on steroids. its very far fetched also. the guy goes thru 3 dangerous missions and doesnt even get hit once. if you like action then its good but dont expect a good storyline.

I also enjoyed Mechanic: Resurrection.

Although I wouldn't say it's like "James Bond on steroids", but rather it is exactly like classic James Bond, before Daniel Craig turned him into a mopey realist. This has all the creative action setpieces, gadgets, and humor that used to make James Bond movies so much fun to watch. Plus, of course, Jason Statham is the one true heir to the action movie crown. Highly recommended for b-movie action fans. A

Re: Outlander. Not a bad movie. Probably a good double feature with Pathfinder (which remains a complete win in my book thanks to Clancy Brown growling in old Icelandic).
No not bad. Just moved to a conclusion you could see coming miles off.
But then isn't that the way with many films?
Too many similar story lines.

Interesting enough action movie with a few twists and turns. Can't help questioning some of the teams decisions though!
I liked seeing all the cars of my youth though.

Just realized I had a sort of letter boxed print of Wu Ma's The Heroes (1980); the one non Shaws Kung Fu film I am eagerly awaiting on blu ray. Would love to see it with the native dub eventually, but it boasts decent English dubs for the lead character and villain (two of my most favorite Fu people, Ti Lung and Chan Wai Man respectively).

So I've been watching this all day; all the way through and then revisiting the awesome end fight between Ti and Chan which is almost 7 minutes of uncut brilliance*. I hate when epic fights are edited down or cut and inter-spliced with other stuff.

*And me loving these two so much I can see patterns in the fight design in how Ti constantly defeats Chan. A shame Ti had to pull out of Judgement of An Assassin because I would have loved to see his take on Hei Mo Le vs. Chan's Bloody Devil.

A somewhat goofy trailer (which ends rather abruptly...)

Watching Gravity on the television. It's an enjoyable film. I usually keep up with new movies, but this one somehow slipped through. I should rent it on iTunes as the one on tv was likely edited.

It's a fun movie, although it certainly has its slower moments too. That said, I caught it while it was in theaters and ended up going to the IMAX 3D version, and with good seats that likely helped as well, it was one of the more standout movie experiences I've had where in quite a few parts it quite truly made you feel like you were in the vastness of space.

I need to watch this again. Here is a good link for reading about the scientific accuracy of the film:

Thank you! It will be interesting to see if Hollywood's knowledge of astrophysics has improved over the years.

Update: that was a very interesting read. There will always be some degree of artistic license taken in movies, but I was glad to see that Gravity adheres somewhat to the laws of physics. I enjoyed reading the opinions of real astronauts and those of Dr. Tyson. Thank you, @Huntn :)

There seems to be more fidelity in this regard lately. Most short cuts or inaccuracies seem to be in support of a desired narrative or just ignorance. If you have not seen The Martian, I'd recommend reading it then seeing the movie.
