Free State of Jones (2016)- Most excellent movie staring Mathew McConaughey and Mahershala Ali (Remi on House of Cards, Cottonmouth on Luke Cage) that tells the story of a revolt against the Confederacy in Mississippi during the Civil War. However, there is no real happy ending, the hypocracy/sickness of slavery is evident, persisting a 100 years after emancipation, in direct contradiction to the principles of our Constitution, all in the name of States Rights. Transformers (2007)- Most excellent Michael Bay summer adventure movie with plenty of humor, lots of excellent action, CGI, and a fantastic beat up car- a 1967 Camaro SS. :) The Barracade Decepticon Police Mustang was ok too!

Just watched Dirty Grandpa (unrated cut). I freaking laughed my butt off on more than one occasion. While it is predictable, some of the scenes are funny. Raunchy. I never picked Robert to be freaking funny.

This must be for the Bad Santa demographic, which I never saw, so I maybe off base. :)

brilliant.

anxiously anticipating @kazmac reply...

Aw shucks. Are you sure you want my reply sir? :p For modern Wing Chun films, especially one circling around Ip Man, I defer to Wong Kar Wai's The Grandmaster. Donnie Yen is a wonderful fighter, but I politely cannot say the same about his acting.

I, um, get more of a buzz watching Ti Lung practicing wing chun on a tree than I do the Yen Ip Man movies.

My favorite kung fu movies on the Wing Chun style are Warriors Two (1978) - which really needs a blu ray release badly, The Prodigal Son (1981) and Wing Chun (1993, to wit Mr. Yen gives Michelle Yeoh's nun enough reason to develop this awesome fight style).

---

Lately, back to some of my favorite Shaws.

Vengeance! (1970) - the more I watch, the more I love this. Simple story well acted and choreographed, almost every shot is beautiful despite buckets of red paint standing in for blood. You really cannot beat David Chiang opening up copious amounts of whup a$$ on organized gangs and such in retaliation for killing his older brother. *

*Okay, well you could if Chan Wai Man was doing the same thing. :p:D:p

--

And Five Venoms (1978) - which is great fun. Just realized one of the elder Venoms house masters' primary styles is the Invincible Armor (Toad) style.

Just watched The Thing From Another World (1951), an excellent high quality early 50s sci-fi/horror film, only eclipsed by The Thing (1982) which was 100x as scary and much more true to the concept and tension of original source story, Who Goes There? (1938), by John Campbell. It's interesting that the original movie glossed over completely the primary premise of the original story, the ability to take over another organism and become it.

Jus finish watching Chaplin's The Great Dictator. Truly a classical movie.

His speech in final minutes of the movie are still moving and it amazed me how accurate is today's life.

Yes, that one never gets old. One of my favorite scenes:

Just finished watching "Lucy". Not to bad, but the ending was a little out there. I actually enjoyed the movie for the better part of it. But when she becomes the computer....
I caught this movie last night, it was aired on a regular television so I'm sure I missed something due to editing for time or content. However, I quite liked it. Agreed, parts of it seemed far fetched, but overall it was enjoyable. I found it to be one of those movies that, though I'd just viewed it, I would rent it just to be able to view it in its entirety sans interruptions.

Yup that is how I caught it. It was on FX for me. I could tell they did cut some of the scenes, because of the way it jumped in a few parts. I am hoping it comes to Netflix or the like now that it is on cable tv so that I can see the uncut, for lack of a better term, version of the film.
