Just watched Star Wars episode 7 The Force Awakens in preparation for tonight's trip to the cinema to see episode 8.

Despite what a lot of people say, I like episode 7. I think given it's setting the scene for a new generation of fans as well as keeping the old timers like me happy, it gets the mix about right.
Not too much CGI as well which is a big plus from me. I can leave all that to Marvel.

So I get to watch episode 8 at 12:01 as it airs in the UK. I haven't even seen a trailer as I like to watch spoiler free.
I like Episode 7 other than it’s complete lack of originality. For those who want to know all of its sins, see my signature. :p That said, I’ll be watching episode 8 in the theater and giving the franchise yet another chance. :)

As long as the theater has assigned seating, I don't care anymore how crowded they are. I don't have to rush, worry about finding seats together, can skip previews etc etc
I too like assigned seats at a local Showbiz theater, but I don’t miss previews. :D

The problem with previews for me is how long they are. They can add 20 minutes to the movie. And with my kids or even alone, I dont want to sit there for a long movie plus 20 more minutes. Rather go to the bathroom or walk a little before settling in.

With the length of many modern movies, it's a 3 hour event :) After the previews, I run out into the lobby (I literally *sprint*), do some gymnastics, run through a few kata, run through a few bars of a Metallica song, hit the bathrooms and get back to my seat (ET < 1:00)

Thanks for the spoiler free review. I can’t wait to see it.
Spoiler free is the only way to see it! Although I did pop in to work today and kept dropping made up clangers!
My favourite being Ray is the love child of Chewie and Leia!

Seeing Star Wars tonight. @Apple fanboy where would you rank it? For me Rogue One is my favorite followed very closely by ESB and ANH.
I'd have to see it again, but probably 4 th. but my top three are, and always will be the OT!
[doublepost=1513274115][/doublepost]On the subject of assigned seating, I booked my seat the day they were released (October 10th). To avoid any issues I went and did it in person.
So I arrived 10 minutes before the film is due to start.
Sat there in a packed cinema, dead centre in the first row of the luxury seats, so plenty of leg room.

A gentleman then comes up and tells me I'm in his seat. We checked tickets and somehow the Odean had issued the same seat twice. We had to go and sort it out but it did get a bit frosty. They found him another seat!

It's not that bad. You just have too much hate inside you for episode 7.

We all know hate is the path to the dark side and forever it will control your destiny!

Lol, not hate, just standards, as when it’s no longer productive to beat the dead horse. :p :D

Rogue One

SW characters
Vader
Yoda
Han
Obi-Wan
Artoo

Luke (new)
Sidious
K-2SO
BB-8

Luke stood out in Ep 8. Won't spoil it. There was something shocking that happened in the middle part and I'm trying to figure out how Ep 9 will finish? Kylo Ren is too weak to be a villain. I feel like Ep 8 blew its load and the stakes go lower.

Remember the X-Men and Planet of the Apes reboots since 2011? Good first reboot. Better sequel. Bad third film (X-Men: Apocalypse was pretty bad). I'm still trying to digest what I just saw but I think I may never like the new SW trilogy as much as the originals. Better than the prequels though.

There is this one fan service scene that didn't make sense to me in the middle of the film. Love the character but the scene didn't make sense or fit the story. It's a beautifully shot film that takes us to different locales. Moreso than Ep 3 did.

Highlights -
Confrontation with Snoke
Many LOL moments (might be the funniest SW film)
Porgs are cute. Not annoying like Jar Jar.
Final showdown
Different locations
Benecio del Toro (it's Freddy frickin' Four Fingers)
Nice one, Laura Dern
The Asian chick is cool

Weaknesses -
Some parts felt a little off
Too much flying spacecraft battles
Characters are cool but still not on par with the og cast. It's like watching the adventures of Mutt over Indiana Jones or Marty and Doc's children team up.
Some unneeded fan service scene.

Overall, I think it's better than most cookie-cutter MCU films I have seen but not better than The Avengers (2012). It's maybe only on par with The Winter Soldier. It's a Disney cash grab for a new generation. At least the story was a little different.

Our hero starts off in a desert -
A New Hope
The Phantom Menace
The Force Awakens

Ends in destroying a planet destroyer
A New Hope
Return Of The Jedi
The Force Awakens

^ See the trend from Ep 7? Thrice was told. The story for Ep 8 had some elements of Empire but not exactly that way. That's why it is better but perhaps not that much better.

I have a hard time putting Ep 8 above Ep 3 mainly because ROTS had to bridge two trilogies together and it had the best ending ever for a SW film. Ep 8 could be a technically better film than ROTS and even ROTJ, but I still may not like it as much.

I need to rewatch it at least 5-10 times to be a judge. Every time I saw TFA, I thought about it worse and worse. It's actually one of the worst SW films ever. Maybe in two years, I might say the same for Ep 8 or I may like it even more after I see Ep 9. Opinions change over time and with more viewings.

Saw Star Wars Ep VIII last night with the family and some friends. It was enjoyable and there were definitely some twists I didn't see coming. One of the major take away's for me is that it feels like Disney is positioning this universe to be a long term movie cash cow. Now, you might say, "Duh, of course they are", but what I mean is I expected this trilogy to be the end of the story. Sure, they could do other stories from the universe like Rogue One, but I really thought that this trilogy would, for the most part, end the major story line of Star Wars. Leaving the theater last night I got the feeling that they intend to make many more movies with these same characters. We could easily see another trilogy or two after this one with the new main characters they have introduced. So, for me, "The Last Jedi" really reflects a passing of the torch to the next generation. Don't get me wrong, that's cool, but for an original Star Wars fan like myself, it is also sad.

Vader. Yoda. Han. Obi-Wan.

^ Those will always be my Top 4 for Star Wars. Sometimes I do have Yoda #1 and Vader #2. I have keys of them both I got made at Home Depot. I have a Kylo key for a duplicate but I just throw that in my car's glove compartment. Kylo is weak sauce to me and I have nothing personal against Adam Driver.

I love Han. Star Wars just doesn't feel as funny without him. I also love Sir Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan. Sir Alec got an Oscar nomination for ANH. He delivered his lines with such class and dignity. And I think Ewan was the only real highlight of the prequels. I'm down for a stand alone film with him.

I'm an 1980's child, so Back To The Future, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars is like my Holy Trinity of franchises. Toss in some Godfather. Sad to watch Star Wars get ruined by Lucas in 1997 and now by Disney.

This is the real Star Wars to me...

It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)- magic. Believe it or not, not made as a Christmas movie, it’s on the dark side at times, originally scheduled for a Spring release. I have such strong negative feelings towards Mr. Potter, Lionell Barrymore was forever stained by this role, at least a little. ;)

I saw Star Wars The Last jedi yesterday... to be be fair the more i think about it, the more I hate it. It is coming close disputing Episode II (Attack of the Clones) as the worst Star Wars movie ever. :(

Not a popular opinion, but my favorite of the series.

I hadn't seen it in over 15 years and I was thinking how Robert Davi has such a villain face like Benecio del Toro only to realize a young BdT is also in it! Freddy frickin' Four Fingers / The Collector / DJ (The Last Jedi). They both have such sleazeball faces you can't trust similar to Guy Pierce in The Count Of Monte Cristo (2002).

DJ in The Last Jedi is really a character I want to know more about.

Dalton and LTK are so underrated. I will try to watch all the 007 films and re-rank them all.

My favorites -
Licence To Kill
The World Is Not Enough
Goldfinger
The Spy Who Loved Me

I saw some of From Russia With Love and really enjoyed what I saw. Probably Top 5 for sure. I have Spectre and haven't had time to watch it yet. I didn't like Skyfall much but might appreciate more with another viewing. I think Roger Moore was the worst Bond. Became a caricature. Campy. Not Dalton.

Finally watched Dunkirk.

I am split in two, right down the middle, opinion wise.

I was hoping for film matching the epic scale of the rescue, but no…

I loved the poetic, pensive and lyrical film… but I also am deeply unsatisfied at the same time. I suppose I expected to find Nolan's version of Saving Private Ryan.
I know the director has an aversion (apparently) to CGI (and I do agree to an extent) but this was a case IMO where the empty stretches of beach could have been filled with at least a couple thousand more CGI soldiers waiting, shuffling along.

Stukas? Only three? 3? One Heinkel bomber? Seriously, WTF?

Three Spitfires? But at least they had endless amounts of ammunition, if not of fuel. (Insert eyeroll here.)

The music was actually rather good. Until Zimmer felt obliged to tack on his version of Elgar's Nimrod theme — except not nearly as good as the original.

It plucks at the heart and tries to rouse our spirits with the valiant valour. The fleet of (no more than twelve?) little boats who come to the rescue, bobbing valiantly by. All salt encrusted moustachios and beards, chins thrust out as Britannia rules the waves… or summit like that.
But where was the Royal Navy? The film leads us to believe there was no navy. Simply not true.

The fuelless Spitfire gliding down like a wounded guardian angel was lovely, but at the same time impossible to believe in. You cannot land on a beach with undercarriage down. Just. No.

At every turn as I felt myself fall under the spell of the film, something jarring would pull me up short and I'd find myself muttering WTF? Oh, FFS!

The burning Spitfire on the beach. *sigh* but while the prop shaft is visible, where is the engine?
And the cruellest cut… Those train seats at the end… British Rail 1970s blue velour. Why, oh, why, oh why, Mr Nolan?

I thought "Resident Evil". This is supposed to be a really popular game and movie. They've done a bunch. Fun for the whole family.

My wife and I finished it. Holy carp! Not at all what I was expecting.

Still, good enough to want to finish the rest of the series.
