Revenge of the Sith (good but confirms I've never dug McDarmid as the Emperor)

X-Men Days of Future Past
I quite liked this the second time around, (except for Jennifer Lawrence who phoned it in from her house.) James McAvoy made it for me.

McAvoy as Professor X and Fassbender as Magneto are inspired casting for the younger versions. One of my favorite storylines - in fact, I still own, stored in mint condition, the original X-Men comics where this storyline originated, by Chris Claremont and John Byrne.

I read those in the early 90s. What did you think of the movie being that it is one of your favorite storylines?

Finding Nemo (2003)- Story telling genius, love the atmosphere, characters, and soundtrack in this movie. :)

We're in the middle of non-stop circulation of Xmas** movies (many of these we own - they get a full replay mid-summer :D):

- Christmas Vacation
- Elf
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas
- Nightmare Before Christmas
- Die Hard
- A Christmas Story
- Krampus
- Christmas with the Kranks
- The Night Before
- A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott version)
My favorite ACC version, 1938 Reginald Owen. :)

Really think this was a good way to end the saga. An epic space battle, Vader's battle with Luke and eventual turning to the light.

It's hard to remember how much of a shock it was that Leia and Luke are brother and Sister.

Just episode 7 to go then off to see episode 8 on opening night! My annual trip to the cinema.

I think the movies get some stuff really right, but mostly just don't have the depth of the Claremont work (he worked on X-Men for 16 years ...), he wrote the series for years, slowly developing characters, multiple plotlines, as a reader you were deeply engaged. Just like the new Dark Phoenix movie, we're not vested in that character, her relationship with Scott - the slow tension building that something's not quite right.

11. Thor (2011)
12. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
13. Iron Man 2 (2010)
14. Iron Man 3 (2013)
15. Ant-Man (2015)
16. Incredible Hulk (2008)
17. Thor: The Dark World (2013)

With Disney buying Fox, I want to see X-Men and Fantasy Four together with the Avengers. I expect Infinity War to be Top 5 but I doubt it ever tops 2012's. Why? Too many characters. It relies on cameos. It's like watching your favorite TV show. They introduce too many characters we don't care for or they will lack screen time to shine.

Age Of Ultron is a pretty bad movie if you think about it. Story is a mess. I think I wanted Civil War to be my #1 when I saw it last year only to realized how the airport scene is overrated and just them play fighting. It made my dude, Tony Stark, the bad guy. He can hold his own vs Thor but can't beat Steve and Bucky?

MCU has increased Cap's power every single movie since The Avengers when he could barely keep up with Thor in the Battle of NY or fight Loki. It's nonsense to me they nerfed Iron Man like they did to Thor and then overpower Captain America who's hands would be hurt just by punching Iron Man.

I love Josh Brolin, so I hope to enjoy Infinity War, regardless. I hope Thanos wrecks havoc. With Hugh Jackman who might appear in Avengers 4 (Infinity War 2), maybe they should hold off killing IM and Cap. Remembering the pacing issues and convoluted story of AoU and CW, I wouldn't keep my expectations so high for it though.

Already got my IMAX 3D tickets for The Last Jedi this Thursday. Watched The Force Awakens and Rogue One again last night. I used to rank TFA very high but it's really not a very good SW film. Rogue One had a different take on it that doesn't deal with the Force and good vs bad. The more mature film although it also has its flaws like weak character development and slower pacing.

Favorite SW Films
1. The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
2. A New Hope (1977)
3. Return Of The Jedi (1983)
4. Revenge Of The Sith (2005)
5. Rogue One (2016)
6. The Force Awakens (2015)
7. The Phantom Menace (1999)
8. Attack Of The Clones (2002)

The Last Jedi (2017) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) will likely reach my Top 5 and surpass every SW prequel.

Chappie. Not a great film. Too much effin and jeffin for my liking.

However the last 10 minutes took an unexpected turn and were quite thought provoking. A what if scenario.
the makers shot and is going to die. However his robot (Chappie) has found a way to upload a consciousness to a robot body. Would you?

A couple great ones from the past few days.

Get Out (2017)

It Comes at Night (2017)

It's been a good year for low key horror / trillers. I've always enjoyed in equal amounts the mindless slashers with unstoppable villains and dumb teenagers as well as the films geared more towards people who perhaps like to process and analyze what they've just seen, and these two films sit firmly in the latter category. To get a film in that category right isn't easy, but if it's accomplished the reward at least for me is immense. And these two both deliver in that regard.

Now, I could write a synopsis and a review of each one, or you could click on the links provided and read what these films are about, but I really think it serves the viewer well to go in as unprepared as possible. The short descriptions over at IMDb will either compel you to seek them out, or not.

Grade-wise both got very high scores from me, 9/10 each. The novelty of modern "genre" movies hitting exactly the required spot for me probably inflated the grades a teeny little bit, but hey, if it works it works.

Grey Rey?

Thur, 7pm IMAX 3D showing at AMC Puente Hills (City of Industry). Got a good seat for it near the middle at the edge. IMAX 3D is the true way to watch SW like how I saw TFA. Pay the $20 for it. WORTH IT with amazing visuals and sound.

Theories about The Last Jedi -

I think Rey is a creation from Snoke. She will go dark but will team up with Ben Organa/Kylo Ren to overthrow him. It's the Vin Diesel in Fate Of The Furious who looks to go rogue only because he was forced to. But at the end, he isn't the baddie.

I read many positive comments who saw TLJ from the premiere. The best scenes aren't in the trailer similar to Rogue One. I'm not going to hype myself up like I did for TFA. It could be better than TFA and Rogue One but not that much better. I just don't love this cast as much as I did with the original.

I'm interested in superhero films because I think our species will be like them in another 500-1000+ years long after we are gone. Once we find the cure for all diseases, superhumans can live as long as Logan and have super abilities.

The writers are superheroes' biggest limitations.

Iron Man could hold his own against the god of thunder. Blast the god of mischief twice and beat up Hulk with a Hulkbuster but can't beat two guys who are nearly a centurion? The power levels are all over the place.

I love Batman and Iron Man. Tony Stark is known to be a Bruce Wayne copycat. But Batman would have ZERO chance against Supes. If Supes is fast as Flash, how come he didn't see the Kryptonite gas coming from the bullet?

Last year, they made the heroes with the ability to fly lose to make the story less predictable and more balanced. All Superman and Iron Man could do is grab their opponent and throw them off from 50,000 feet or into a volcano.

Favorite DCEU Films
1. Wonder Woman (2017)
2. Justice League (2017)
3. Batman v Superman: DoJ (2016)
4. Man Of Steel (2013)
5. Suicide Squad (2016)

Favorite Superheroes (in films)
1. Iron Man
2. Batman
3. Spider-Man
4. Wolverine
5. Doctor Strange
6. Wonder Woman
7. Thor
8. Hulk
9. Superman
10. Captain America

Brie-Larson-captain-marvel-fan.jpg

Let's wait when Brie Larson gets involved. You thought Wonder Woman is powerful? She is but Captain Marvel is stated to be the most powerful in MCU among heroes. The writers of MCU can afford to kill off nearly every Avenger except Thor and Hulk. That's how powerful Carol Danvers is going to be.

I want Silver Surfer in a life action movie. The Fantastic Four sequel is not something I want to remember him for.

One top comment is Silver Surfer can do anything except sell a comic and have people give a f about him.

Guess what? Nobody gave a flying f about The Avengers until 2012. They were Marvel's B-team until the films came out. X-Men were more interesting and still are with more depth to their stories. 2012's The Avengers was MCU's real breakthrough into the mainstream consciousness. Not 2008's Iron Man.

Just watched Star Wars episode 7 The Force Awakens in preparation for tonight's trip to the cinema to see episode 8.

Despite what a lot of people say, I like episode 7. I think given it's setting the scene for a new generation of fans as well as keeping the old timers like me happy, it gets the mix about right.
Not too much CGI as well which is a big plus from me. I can leave all that to Marvel.

So I get to watch episode 8 at 12:01 as it airs in the UK. I haven't even seen a trailer as I like to watch spoiler free.

^ Underrated scene. I like Sharon Carter tag teaming with Natasha before Bucky handles them both until Black Panther gets involved. Looking forward to BP in Feb but I don't expect it to be among my Top 5. Then again, I didn't expect Doctor Strange and GotG2 to be Top 5 either and they did.

^ Where the hell is War Machine? I love Don Cheadle but his character is basically a punching bag and the only memorable thing he did in Civil War was fall from the sky. If they took it seriously, the last ones standing would be Wanda and Vision.

I love Iron Man, Batman, and Spider-Man the most but I don't find any of their films to be among my favorites. Not Batman 89, Spider-Man 02, or Iron Man 08. I find Captain America films better. I don't even like The Dark Knight all that much either.

Among my favorite films for a superhero -
Captain America, the best
X-Men/Wolverine
Batman
Iron Man
Spider-Man
Thor
Hulk

I'm the minority that actually didn't mind Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man as I found him witty but neither of those films would rank anywhere near my favs. Tom Holland in Homecoming was cool but I didn't love it.

My favorite X-Men isn't Logan for sure. I haven't seen all of Wolverine from 2013. X3 and Wolverine 09 were pretty bad though. I say Days Of Future Past, First Class, and then Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds can be overbearing to me like Jim Carrey in the early 90's.

I don't read comics at all. I had a few of them in the 1990's especially of X-Men. But I personally don't read them. I base what I like from their movie portrayals. Batman was my fav since the 80's and would watch the Adam West until RDJ made Iron Man who he is. A funnier and more arrogant Bruce Wayne.

I'm going to miss RDJ and Chris Evans in MCU but nothing lasts forever. It's a movie anyway, they can die, use the Time Stone, and return from the dead. Superman returned. I say don't kill anybody until they are in a scene next to Hugh Jackman..

Favorite Villains
1. The Joker (except from Suicide Squad)
2. Loki
3. Hela
4. Magneto (Fassbender one)
5. Vulture (Bat, Bird, & Vulture, love Keaton)

Thanos (Brolin) could reach the top.

Tomorrow night, I should be posting my thoughts about The Last Jedi (spoiler-free) and re-ranking my order of SW favorites.

Favorite SW characters -
1. Darth Vader
2. Yoda
3. Han Solo
4. Obi-Wan Kenobi
5. R2-D2
6. Leia
7. Chewbacca
8. K-2SO
9. Darth Sidious/Senator Paplatine
10. Rey? Go dark. Kylo Ren?

Honorable mention: Chirrut Imwe

Never been a Luke fan but maybe it changes after tomorrow. I find Boba Fett overrated. He brings nothing to the story except capturing Han to bring back to Jabba. Rey could be Top 5 if she kicks *** tomorrow. I thought Kylo would be Top 5 until he unmasked himself and committed to killing his daddy. Sith poseur. He will never be strong as Vader. My Top 3 could stay like that forever.

Just back from opening night of Star Wars. I'll not reveal any spoilers as there are a number of good twists and turns. Glad I got to watch it spoiler free.
And yes it was good. A few storylines that made you wonder, but a good addition to the SW universe.

Seeing Star Wars tonight. @Apple fanboy where would you rank it? For me Rogue One is my favorite followed very closely by ESB and ANH.

We might try to see it tomorrow, the little G is out of school early (Xmas vaca starting!), even though it's the opening day (excluding tonight's late showings), I figure showings before 4-5p will be way less crowded.

As long as the theater has assigned seating, I don't care anymore how crowded they are. I don't have to rush, worry about finding seats together, can skip previews etc etc

Yeah, we went to a special showing of something, and the theater had this option, so nice! Our local theater (< 10 away) is very nice, new, even serves beer and wine, but no go on the assigned seats :(

That is the only way we see them now. A Harkins theater opened up near us and wow. We have not set foot in the other theater that we used to go to since. Really good food, beer and wine, and not to mention assigned seating!
