exactly! ive told Huntn that one day but he swears by movie reviews. i dont, movie taste is subjective. dont care for "movie reviews" at all.

Same here. I never read reviews before seeing the film first. Never have, really, except in some very, very rare cases where I know for a fact that my, and the reviewer's tastes coincide.

Also in general I like watching films with little to no knowledge about them beforehand. Trailers especially nowadays tend to spoil everything in the two minutes they last, so it's really not for me.

im a rare breed that actually likes spoilers

^Oh I see, maybe I misunderstood your post then. And yeah, I know a couple of fellas like you, it can sometimes be tricky discussing films with them!

The funny thing is that I don't actually mind spoilers when it comes to TV shows, just films. It's irrational, I get that, but when it comes to shows it's more important how, f. ex. certain plot twists or other similar incidents are arrived at, and the twists themselves are of secondary importance. If that makes any sort of sense. Films are more self contained, and because they tell one story I'd rather see that one with my own eyes all the way through without knowing anything in advance.

Tonight it is my all time #1 favorite comedy!

What About Bob? (1991)
A successful psychotherapist loses his mind after one of his most dependent patients, an obsessive-compulsive neurotic, tracks him down during his family vacation.

I don’t swear by them, but use them as a tool to decipher the odds that I will enjoy a movie, but I would never see a movie based on title alone. I want info, but not too much. ;) The worst are previews that tell the entire story in 2 minutes.

In the realm of reviews, critics are the least reliable. As a rule they either are selling movies or are too critical. As I recall they panned the original Starwars. However audience reviews can be helpful, but far from full proof. If a movie hits 90%, the odds are very good, that it’s a good movie, but not necessarily one I’ll like. But it’s not a matter of assurance, just a matter of good odds. And frequently, if I like what I see in a preview, I’ll see it in the theater regardless. And for the reverse, I may wait to stream it.

Spartacus(1960)

I remember really liking this movie. But for some reason, the dialog and acting seemed off this time(when compared to movies like Ben-Hur and Ten Commandments)

I love that film!

I have a box set that also includes:

The Big Sleep, Key Largo, To Have and Have Not
It's on Noir Alley tonight at midnight and tomorrow at 10 am on TCM. I watched it today on TCM's Flim Struck streaming service.

I also love all of those other films too. I'm a fan of Bogart films.

- Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. Stupid, offensive to basic intelligence, cliche’d to a record, boring, meaningless, just stupid stupid stupid. Dr Malcom appears more in the trailers than the actual movie. It should be ripped away from the Jurassic franchise the same way Rocky V should be deleted from memory. I watched all Jurassic movies at the theatre and I couldn’t believe what a mess this was. And don’t get me started on the ending of this pathetic movie. The only redeeming quality is that I used MoviePass to watch this piece of utter crap, so I didn’t actually waste money.

- Ant-Man and the Wasp. Typical Marvel, not exceptional, predictable somewhat, but certainly entertaining!

Just watched "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", again. Such a good movie. Well written and with really good acting. Can't wait to see the sequel in November!

I was just channel surfing, and noticed that The Pledge (2001) starring Jack Nicholson and directed by Sean Penn is on. This is a film I always vow never to watch again, until the next time I watch it. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic film, and one of my personal favorites of Nicholson's work, but the bleakness of certain scenes is pretty heavy. There are many that intensely dislike the ending, but I think it's brilliant.

So here I am, watching a film I actually have no business watching given the generally sunny disposition I currently have.

I’m watching “Pulp Fiction II, hate in 2018”
Jules goes to type on his butterfly keyboard, get mad, utters
“English mofomacbookpro, do you understand it?
Type “waht” one more time......“

@Huntn mentioned The Right Stuff in a post over in "The Aircraft Thread!" and I hadn't watched that film in quite a long time, so I've been enjoying that tonight. It's a long movie but that never crosses my mind when I'm viewing it... only when I'm deciding if I can stay up late enough to the end or should start watching it earlier on another evening.
