An elegant Spanish white wine from Pazo Pondal that goes by the name of Miña Vida.

One of the classics for sure; no matter how many times I experience it, it just never ceases to give new meaning to, well, life itself. But on a more serious note, happy belated birthday! Your posts on here, this one included, are always a joy to read.

Just finished Mulholland Dr. (2001) by David Lynch. For about the 300th time, give or take a couple of times. I've already written about this one more than probably any other piece of art, or in general, thing, I've come across, so suffice to say it's still the same perfect audiovisual presentation of, well, whatever you wish to interpret it as.

It is a wonderfully rich, buttery wine, a wine with the heft and complexity of a good white Burgundy.

Until the past few months, I hadn't made the acquaintance of elegant Spanish whites.

And thank you both for your kind words and belated birthday greetings.

Wonderful, wonderful piece of art. Majestic to say the least. The only movie that gave me an actual nightmare and had me thinking for... well about 18 years now. Amazing Naomi Watts... and she was great in Twin Peaks The Return too!
(I am reading "Room to Dream", Lynch's bio/auto-bio right now; it's GOOD).

100% agreed. On everything.

I thought I’d give this question one more shot in this forum before heading to the MRs tech forums:

Anyone know if you buy a 4K movie for streaming (Amazon Prime) how will it appear on your 2k TV? I’m thinking of the near future and would assume it would appear ok? But best to check. :)

I honestly do not know about streaming a 4K UHD movie onto a 1080P TV. If it were a disc being played via a 4K player you might well be OK, as most players will downscale the video to match the TV. You don't really have that option with a stream. I would save my bandwidth and money and go with a HD version that would work better. Or get a 4K UHD TV! I just don't know what it would look like, though.

The Mummy Returns (2001)- This sequel is a close second to the original. Gripping final!
Imhotep calls for help from his eternal love: “Anck-su-Namun sebuwai! Anck-su-Namun!”
“Nien!”
She yells, as she runs away...but the killer dung beatles! :)

The graphics in this movie was beyond horrible though.

Thanks! If I buy the 4K version in disk format, it comes with a second original format Blu-ray disk too. Biut I am thinking about making more streaming purchases. And regarding older DVDs the good news (I think) is that the new Ultra HD players are backwards compatible to DVD.

I can’t say I would describe the CGI that way considering the age of the film. The closeup shots of Dwain Johnson as the Scorpion King do look very cartoony, but it’s integration with the live action environment seemed fine to me and the overall CGI in the battle scenes and the finale vortex seemed ok, definitely not enough to make me cringe, but that is me. :)

Yep. I play standard def DVD's in my 4K Blu-Ray player all the time. The nice thing about mine (an LG player) is that it actually takes the standard DVD and upscales it a bit for my 4K UHD TV! It's not fully 4K, but the picture is much better than through a regular DVD player.

The Dark Tower. It's been years since I read the books, and I'm not sure I finished them. Someday, I'm going to be able to load a revolver after throwing the bullets into the air. Maybe a little far fetched.

Spoilers

Thor: Ragnarok
(2017)- Solid. The best, most expressive Hulk I’ve seen, not an Avengers fan. Sad to see Asgard go.

They call you the stupid Avenger!
You’re the tiny Avenger!

I really hope Hella returns.

However, in the end when the Asgardians are on the space ship and Thor is asked, where to? He says, Earth. So I’m hoping this is stand alone and not tied too much in with the next Avengers movie End Game.

A docu simply titled Dries, about a full year in the working life of Belgian fashion designer Dries van Noten. He was born in the late 1950s and is one of the original Antwerp Six group of designers who were together at Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1980–81. Their styles are quite different but collectively they brought Antwerp some large notice as a new center for fashion design starting in the mid-80s, generally via having presented their collections in London.

The film is great for showing Dries' work-in-progress decisions about fabrics and detail of couture. He was quick to acknowledge his good fortune in being able to commission fabrics designed to his specs, rather than just have to choose from already available fabrics to translate his ideas and underpin his collections.

Dries has been made a baron by Belgium's King Philippe in recognition of his achievements. His line does not feature high couture, rather is meant for retail ready to wear, although he has dressed notables like Cate Blanchette in one-offs for special occasions.

I can be pretty judgmental about a lot of things, but for some reason when it comes to fashion design and the ensuing collections, I tend to lose all that and just revel in the creativity. As designers go, Dries seems pretty down to earth and his collections are fun to look at. I really enjoyed watching him work in this movie.

Just finished watching "Bad Times At The El Royale". This was an odd movie, with a great cast and an interesting story that filmed in a unique style. I actually liked it quite a lot. Everybody turned in a good performance and the stories were good. The soundtrack was excellent, too! I recommend this one!

I loved that film!

I wonder what percentage of all entertainment films do super heroe stories now occupy? :)
Just enough to keep us entertained. As a comics fan, I love the plethora of comics based movies, TV shows and series. The fact that they are doing as well as they do in the theatres and on TV, shows that there is a great interest in the genre. They are usually well written and have good actors. It's what the movie going world wants. Entertainment and a few hours of escape.

Just finished The Disaster Artist (2017) on Netflix.

Fantastic stuff, as is obviously the film this film tells the story of, The Room. Tommy Wiseau is one fascinating character, and James Franco gives a great performance playing him. I'm at a loss for words, this is all just pure madness.

I need to rewatch The Room. Again.

Only movie by Lynch I haven't seen because... I am afraid of it.
It wasn't all that scary really. The movie focused more on the social aspect of a disfigured person having to deal with the different, outsider mentality of "normal" people and how they treated him. There was much less focus on the horror aspect, in fact, it's not really a horror movie at all.
