Joker (2019). A masterpiece.

I really want to see it. Joaquin Phoenix is an outstanding actor, and I am glad they chose him for the role over reportedly using Jared Leto. It’s interesting, because I think others were expecting this movie to be ‘extremely violent’, almost reminiscent of Heath Ledger‘s joker from the Dark Knight series, but I think they wanted this joker to be melodramatic in terms of delivering an an entirely different view of the Jokers mindset. I haven’t heard any bad things about it, and I try to avoid the ‘critic’ reviews as much as I can.

Philosophical question which movie is better, the Lion King (1994) or Lion King (2019)? My wife says the 2019 version is better, however, I like the original animated version better because 1) It's the original and 2) been there seen that, and 3) when it comes to anthropomorphized talking animals it's easier for me to suspend reality with animated animals instead of animals that look real and are talking.

I won't be angry if you side with my wife. :D:D

1994.
The 2019 version has amazing CGI but absolutely no soul.

I won't even watch the 2019 version, I've seen clips, I look at them like a tech demo reel. I mean, we don't do Disney stuff in general (little G only had a tiny window she was into it), but the original is certainly a near perfect classic.

The Iceman [2013]

This movie scares the hell out of me. And I don’t mean in a scary sort of way, but Michael Shannon’s character is just plain sinister. Basically this is a movie about a man (Shannon) that chose to work for the mob with hit contracts through 60’/70’s. The supporting cast includes Ray Liotta (Another awesome performance) and Chris Evans.

But the scenes in this movie that are particularly violent, are really well done and straight brutal. I think Michael Shannon has to be one of the most underrated actors in the industry today [He was also in Man of Steel/Midnight Special], but his work in this film deserves to be noted, not only was his work perfect, but in general, Michael Shannon is a fairly scary looking dude, and I don’t know if anyone else would’ve played this role the way he did.
Great film that.

It's crazy reading the answers and understanding that some movies were once new and waited for and are now pretty old and seen time and time over again...

District 9(2009)
One of my favorite sci-fi movies of this century. Engaging story, great acting and some of the best special effects i’ve seen.

Being a ‘car guy’ myself, I love this movie. It seems apt for Halloween, but I think this movie was really well done, especially for being in the early 80s. John Carpenter was always underrated as a director, but this is one of my horror favorite films from him.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s basically about a car that has a mind of its own once the owner starts investing his life/time into it.

Now moving on to

Frankenstein (1931)

Blade Runner was a futuristic 1982 film, set in the fictional future of November 2019.

So guess what? It's now a film about the present!

And in a month it will be a movie about the past.

Wow. How wrong they were when predicting the future. I always like it when the guesses about future tech are completely wrong.

I don’t remember my phone looking like this (from the film 1984).

Speaking of that, Wicked is going to Jacksonville later this month. I heard a radio ad for it the other day and thought of you guys.

Last week, because Halloween was coming up, I watched “The Shining”.

That inspired me to spend the last two nights watching the two-part “Salem’s Lot”. Holds up pretty well.

But it’s also, IMHO, one of Stephen King’s best horror novels, and well overdue for a big screen remake.

Yeah, we occasionally do local news (OTA), I've been seeing that.

We saw it in NYC back in '03 with the original broadway cast, Idina Menzel (a decade before her big Frozen success) and Kristin Chenoweth.

We just rewatched it too, partially motivated by The Rewatches podcast just doing an episode for it. It's amazing, not only for the resulting movie, but all the crazy things that went on during the making of it.

FYI, I don't know if you've heard of Castle Rock, it's on Hulu, it's a show that takes place in the "King Universe", so it's not remaking things, just expanding, and knocking around the same locations, using characters from his books, etc., it's really excellent (and a few actors from King movies have been in it: Tim Robbins, Sissy Spacek).

S2 just started, and in addition to having Lizzie Caplan doing a stellar job playing a young Annie Wilkes, it takes place in Jerusalem's Lot (and yes, they're going there ...) :D

Yesterday watched the "Nightmare on the Elm Street" remake from 2010.

Mediocre attempt at remake, but watchable nonetheless. This franchise is kinda only one that I can relate to, because my dreams are very strange, and I often have false awakening, I go around doing stuff I usually do daily, until I see something is off, and then I realize I am in dream. Real panic starts when I want to awake, but I can't.

Never had someone chased me to kill me, but it is relatable nonetheless. I would see some scenes, and say "oh, my goodness, that is definitely how it is. It's like they asked me to design this."
