Excellent (re: Knives Out). Generally I wait for cheaper purchase options, but this was a good deal, and we're more-or-less playing hooky tomorrow. Movie, Thai food, some awesome bevs - getting some valentine treats for the little G - the office is closing at noon :D

Disney Channel Gems- Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo (1977) the demon possessed but lovable car (precursor to Christine) races from Paris to Monte Carlo in this painful movie. 😝 Maybe if I was a kid again. I think my wife is reliving her childhood with Disney Plus. ;)

The Gladiator (2000). This movie really stands the test of time. Actually, I think I enjoyed it more than I did 20 years ago. Good acting, good plot, good fight scenes.
Yes, Gladiator is a very good movie. But I wonder if it is Russell Crowe's best one? I actually liked A Beautiful Mind and The Insider better. Both are based on true stories, and the acting by Ed Harris and Christopher Plummer in A Beautiful Mind, and Al Pacino and (again) Christopher Plummer in The Insider was awesome! In fact, Christopher Plummer won an award from the National Society of Film Critics for his superb portrayal of Mike Wallace, the infamous 60 minutes journalist.

Also, there is a "connection" between The Insider and another excellent series on Netflix, Manhunt: Unabomber. Near the end of The Insider, there is a scene of the Unabomber's house in Montana, as CBS was the first network to break the story about the Unabomber.

What is the verdict on Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)? I assumed blah, more of the same.

Two articles about it:
Seriously: how many times can the Terminator franchise recycle the same formula? Outside of Terminator Salvation, every movie in the series has revolved around protecting the saviour of humanity from a robotic assailant from the future.

Just got around to watching this. Good action flick and CGI, but in the terminator ecosystem:
  • Been there, seen that or a variation of. Terminator producers, please stop!
  • Alternate history version where:
Terminator 2 happened, this is how they stopped Skynet, but another terminator who looked just Arnold showed up to kill John Connor afterwards. A new future developed with a system called Legion who did the same thing Skynet did, war with the machines, sent back terminators, but this time to save a new future leader.
  • As with all time paradox story lines, don’t even think about it logically. Go with the flow. :D
  • There is a flashback at the beginning of the movie where there is a young Arnold and Linda Hamilton, and I’ve not been able to verify if this was old footage used or they were deaged digitally.

I remember my parents taking me to see that.

Watched Jason Bourne last night. A poor sequel in my opinion. I hope it was the last. It just did seem like a rinse repeat job of the earlier films if you know what I mean.
But as there is no internet at the Airbnb our choices are somewhat limited.

Goodfellas [1990]

You know that One movie that’s on TV that you find yourself watching again and again, even though you’ve seen it probably like 15 times? Well that’s ‘Goodfellas’ for me.😁There’s something about this movie that we’ve all heard of, probably have seen it at least once [if not more], but it stands out because it has some of the best actors in the industry, even though it’s from 20 years ago.

But the movie aside about being about a crime mob, I find the real reason I like this movie is because Martin Scorsese directed it, He uses really unique angles on his visual approach (Like he did with ‘The Departed and most recently ‘The Irishman’.)

Anyways, as a Ray Liotta fan on a _personal_ level, this is probably his best movie he put out during his acting career.

Last night I watched - Oblivion (Tom Cruise) 2013 - again (4th or 5th time) 👍

Kind of makes me feel like it is the Adult version of Wall•E - LOL :p

Tom Cruise has made a sizable contribution to the Sci Fi genre - a segment I particularly enjoy - this is a well done movie and decent soundtrack too !

Yes, definitely a classic! But some folks might not remember Joe Pesci's superb performance in another excellent movie, JFK:

Typical, awesome performance by Pesci!

In actuality, there were a number of famous actors in that movie: Kevin Costner, Joe Pesci, Gary Oldman, Kevin Bacon, Tommy Lee Jones, John Candy (cameo), Jack Lemmon, Ed Asner, Donald Sutherland, Sissy Spacek, Walter Matthau, etc.

Good, solid, "hard scifi", and a little under the radar, very highly recommended.

We did, it was so fun, and Knives Out is just fantastic, it's both a love letter to mystery/whodunnit films, while also doing a bit of a deconstruction - smart, funny, perfectly written, acted, directed. I stand by my assessment that Rian Johnson directed the best 3/12ths of the last Star Wars trilogy :D

Picked up Parasite for a killer deal (~$8), going to start it in just a few ...

Bumblebee. This is a young-adult transformer action adventure movie. It was watchable once, with some fun action and a few funny parts. They kinda reach for some character development, and it kinda made sense. The soundtrack pretty much rocks.

Nice twist in that movie.

Olga Kurylenko can look so different depending how she is made up. I had a crush on her in Quantum of Solice as Camille because she reminded me of my wife when she was young who is half Hispanic and 20% Native American. :)

@mikzn

Aside from ‘Oblivion’ being one of my top five favorite sci-fi movies, you mentioned the soundtrack, [which I believe I also mentioned a few pages back on this thread], I have the entire album from Amazon Prime-😁

‘Star-waves’ being one of the standout performers:

Here's an interesting link, via Joe Pesci and his 2 roles (one in The Irishman as playing mob boss Russell Bufalino, and the other in JFK, in which he plays David Ferrie):

Fascinating connection!

I had to get past the incessant F-bombs and worse, which however true-to-life can be so annoying that every time I see it I end up renewing my own efforts to grow up and quit wasting obscenities over stuff like spilling sugar on a countertop... but it's a great film, and yes it was definitely about the direction.

What the F_ _ _? You mean the compounding of using profanities was annoying? (I kid, I just had to do it Liz😁).

Anyways, with mobster movies, that’s kind of usually how it is with profanities. But that aside, I just really like how the whole storyline was put together specifically with that movie and it aged really well over the course of 20 years. It’s still so vastly popular on many levels, it just seems like movies really aren’t made like that anymore with that type of directing style from ‘the greats’ like Scorsese.

Hah, well at least I did cop to still using such compounded constructions myself. I'll also note that the swear jar, while periodically enriching the local food pantry, has not so far managed to get me to unlearn my favorite concoctions. I've got a little better at remembering when the kitchen windows are open though. A neighbor (fortunately a good friend) passing by with his dog hollered out one time right after I dropped a skillet on my sandaled foot "Haven't heard that string since I was in the Navy!". I had the grace to be embarrassed enough that my mind went totally blank, couldn't even come up with something like "heh, practice makes perfect..."

My own next movie watch is a complete escape from reality to kid territory, one I've saved up for awhile in case of desperation to ditch the ill effects of being a political junkie. I'm almost there now and figure it's time to queue it up: Last summer's release of A Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon.

Ahh profanity, the crutch of the inarticulate m****r*****r.

But in all seriousness, Goodfellas really is a great film, and one you've just convinced me to watch tonight! So thanks.

I liked her also in the original "HITMAN" movie - which was an awesome movie - IMHO

- might have to put it on my "rewatch this movie" cue

I’m kind of immune to it although if it is used as a routine expression, that that annoys me too. I currently watching S4 of The Expanse and one of the characters (Chrisjen Avasarala) has a gutteral voice like a long time smoker and uses it practically for every situation when she is frustrated and it drives my wife nuts. Fortunately she is a minor, major character with limited screen time. :)
