The Howling(1981)

THE-HOWLING-movie-poster.jpg

I’m always on the verge of looking for new horror films, because generally I don’t find the genre of ‘horror’ to be very terrifying in today’s era of films. But I watched the trailer on YouTube on this, and I gotta tell ya...it’s kind a disturbing, [which is a good thing.😁] The 80s was a very strange time frame for the film industry with some hidden films that did really well.

I’ll check this one out, thanks.

(And the movie poster art is outstanding, very classic horror-ish’).

Didn't know about this, thanks for the info. The (new to me) historical inaccuracy aside I remember the film working pretty well for what it was. Like I said, I need to rewatch it.

Finally got around to watching What Did Jack Do?, a 17 minute short film by David Lynch about a monkey being interrogated in connection with a crime.

Wonderful stuff. I have a feeling that Jack will haunt my dreams for weeks to come.

Beautiful, silly short. Some are speculating that it's serves as the announcement of a Netflix-Lynch collaboration. One can only hope!

Did anyone like Tropic Thunder (2008)? Just stumbled across this on IFC Network. The movie is as stupid as I remember it and IFC shows 5 minutes of commercials for every ten minutes of movie, at least it feels that way. I switched off. I am a big fan of at least two Ben Stiller movies. :)

Yes, very much so.

The movie is as stupid as I remember it [...]

Stupid like a fox! Seriously, though, I've always thought it was a great satire with some really good actors. For enhanced viewing pleasure, though, the commentary track should be listened to. As Lincoln Osiris says, "I don't drop character 'til I've done the DVD commentary!".

Yeah, I think it's a fun movie.

Started watching The Two Popes on Netflix last night. I was quite enjoying parts of it, but had the idea to start watching it rather late in the evening yesterday, so now I want to finish it but think it will have to wait until tomorrow. Tonight the plan is to look in on the Democrats' debate in Nevada... unless I'm entirely put off by that, and then that movie will reclaim my attention instead.

Never imagined Anthony Hopkins in such a role before but he's so good as Pope Benedict, and I thought Johnathan Pryce excellent as Pope Francis.

These 2 inspiring movies are among my all time favorites:

1. Awakenings -

Super performances by both Robert De Niro and Robin Williams. And the roles they played were distinctly different from any they had played up to that point (and maybe all time).

2. Murder In The First -

Again, awesome performances by Kevin Bacon, Gary Odom, and Christian Slater.

Both movies are based on true stories.

Oh, that would be like a serving of black coffee and some delicious cherry pie for the soul! I also very much want this to happen.

Your dream might become reality.
A casting notice for a new Lynch movie has been posted. Lead role: Dark haired girl, 20's, will do tasteful nudity.

I'm trying to contain my excitement, but knowing myself it's going to be a rough couple of years until this one is actually released. And that's assuming it will be at some point.

Still, some fantastic, even if tentative, news, and thank you for sharing it!

I am dreaming of the Carrie Page's backstory. Can you imagine her story running in parallel to TP and TPTR? Got to contain myself as this might never become reality...

That. Would. Be. Sweet!

Good ol' Armin Meiwes. And by that I mean neither good, nor even that old. A really bizarre story, but I'm having some trouble figuring out how this ties into our ongoing Lynch-discussion..?

Fun fact, the Rammstein song Mein Teil (My "Piece") is based on those deranged Germans.

wrong thread :)

Jojo Rabbit (2019)- WOW what an incredible movie! Sarcasm and humor, that smacks head on into a row of lynched bodies, bringing you face to face with the real horror, heartbreak, and hope of humanity. This is my Best Movie of 2019. 👏

Not really a movie, but I'm rewatching a rerun of the Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis on the TV.

Edward Norton is one of the roasters (he does a pretty great job), and he has a bit about Quentin Tarantino not calling him for a role in one of his films.

Man I'd like to see Norton in a QT film. Edward Norton is one of the finest actors of his generation (pretty high up there, too), and frankly I'd watch him read a phone book for an hour and a half. A stellar actor, indeed.

Yes, Edward Norton is an excellent actor! His best performance was in Primal Fear, but he is enjoyable as well in Rounders, Red Dragon, and The Score.

Primal Fear really is a great film. My personal second favorite would be American History X, with the close third being Fight Club. Then there's The People VS. Larry Flynt and 25th Hour. Those come to mind, but I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting.

Didn't like the Hulk movie he did, though. But that probably wasn't all his fault.

Only seen The People Vs. Larry Flynt, but it was quite a while ago. For Primal Fear, quite a few excellent actors/actresses: Richard Gere, of course, Ed Norton, Laura Linley (she now stars in Ozark, and does an excellent job!; also, she did an admirable job in Breach), and of course Francis McDormand (her initial famous role was in the movie Fargo (the 3 recent Fargo series on TV have been awesome also), before that in Mississippi Burning, and more recently in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).

I saw this yesterday. It’s got got a lot of funny parts, but so much tragedy.

General Magic (2018). Apparently you need to get the version without the loud soundtrack. I don’t even remember hearing about their product, but back in the day wanted a Newton, and for years I carried a Palm. All that changed with the iPhone, which is what General Magic had dreamed up.
