Thor (2011)- One of the best, most satisfying MCU movies, banishment, redemption, Loki is a conflicted bad boy God, this functions as a Thor/Loki Origins Movie. Compared to Ragnarok you can see how young they were almost a decade ago. That entire town in New Mexico was a set. My wife asked were are the houses? There weren’t any. :)

The first Thor was perfect. The other continuations were Garbage. The first Thor set the precedent for Chris Hemsworths career as Thor (He Was not also the perfect choice, but he worked incredibly hard to get in shape for Thor, he put on 20 pounds of muscle just for the first film alone.)

But the key to Thors success in the first film, was the amazing supporting cast with Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba. When you’re configuring a film for a ’box office success’, all the pieces have to fit together with the cast members for the team chemistry, and Thors storyline was good, but the cast easily overrode the storyline with their talent to make it what was.

I’ll agree the first Thor was great, Natalie Portman had an electric star presence, lighting up the screen.

The second Thor was unsatisfying, we plan on watching it again tomorrow for another evaluation.

But I found Thor:Ragnarok redeemed the franchise, a very enjoyable story. Hela was great, Thor + Hulk/Banner + Valkyrie+ Kong + Dr Strange, outstanding ensemble. Loki was a scamp as usual. Taiki Waititi directed, so the humor quotient was higher than normal.

Ragnarok had a lot of more comedy/satire mixed into it as you said, which isn’t a bad thing, I just don’t think it worked for that particular film. [I did like the addition of the hulk]. But throughout the addition of the Thor films, you could see how much it was changing and straying away from what it once was from the first one with directing style. But in retrospect, almost any movie in a trilogy series potentially strays away how it first originated.

In most cases that is true and rarely are sequels as good as the original. The first film was directed by Kenneth Branagh and had some humor, but not as much as Ragnarok.

I peppered my thoughts on ‘knives out’ in the’ James Bond’ thread, not really too much to say without giving away main core plot points/character info.

Anyways, I thought the house they filmed the movie was really unique, it seemed historic and almost vintage like. A lot of the movie was actually filmed in Massachusetts and surrounding cities/suburbs, including Boston. I’m one of those viewers that likes to research ‘behind the scenes’ of movies, character/cast development and overall detailed scripts of everything was proposed/choreographed, this being one of them.

Freakin amazing. Probably one of the best adaptation films in terms of representing Johnny Cash and his lifestyle followed by his journey with June Carter.

Easily Joaquin Phoenix’s his best film in his career, I just can’t believe how he not also he physically appeared as Johnny Cash during that time frame, but his vocals are incredibly talented aside from being an actor.

Oh, this was probably my eighth viewing of this film, it’s that good.

Watched "The Addams Family" animated movie with the family last night. It was a great family movie and very entertaining for those of us who are Addams family fans from way back. Lots of Easter Eggs and based more on the old TV show than anything else. Well worth the watch! And some great voice actors, too!

Impractical Jokers (2020) - Ok... I have AMC A-List and I had a free ticket so I went watch this one as my 13yo kid insisted to watch it. I certainly like the show on TruTV; it's a funny way to waste some time, and some of the jokes are actually pretty ingenious.

How's the movie? Well... as a movie, it's definitely a BAD movie. Plot is virtually non-existent, actors are not really actors so they are what they are. But boy, I had lots of fun watching this. During some of the jokes I was laughing so hard I cried. My kid obviously loved it, and just seeing him laugh so hard at the jokes was worth the time I spent watching this thing.

The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972)- I’m a huge Paul Newman fan but this movie just did not do it for me. I’m not convinced he was the best actor for this role. Of course I can blame the director and screenplay too. ;)

My favorite Paul Newman movie - 1981 - Absence of Malice 💕

Parasite - Korean movies never disappoint me, I love the ending as it is unpredictable and the message that the film conveys. You guys should watch it.

I watched The Accountant on Netflix the other day, pretty good movie.

Parasite was really good yes, but i found it a little bit over-hyped

Steven Spielberg: Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

I remember watching this for the first time as a kid, but since it's been a "while", and I noticed it on Netflix I thought I should give it another go. I remember liking it back then, but it turns out I couldn't really remember most of it. The ending, sure, but much of what came before it I had already forgotten.

Great movie, Richard Dreyfuss does good work as Roy Neary. Sure, some aspects of the film feel a bit "dated" nowadays, but as opposed to special effects, solid storytelling never really ages. And the film is 43 years old, after all.

You know how there’s that one movie that comes along once in a while that strikes some type of inner emotion where you connect with the character on such a level that you almost could see yourself trying to fathom what they’re going through the way the actor was portrayed on on the big screen? This is that movie.

Not only that, this is one of my ‘top 10 movies’ of all time. Liam Neeson obviously is the main character, but the musical score (Composed by Marc Streitenfeld), the emotion with the acting, the winter foliage, storyline, all mesh together so perfectly, this is the end result of putting out a film masterpiece that isn’t easily attained.

[Aside from my own personal view on this film, this is one of those films that really commands respect to what ‘mother nature’ is capable of in terms of survival in conditions that are relentless.]

Survival film?

Survival film?

The primary Being ‘survival’, but the back-end story being so much more involved that uses the survival aspect to this movie that throws flashbacks of what the character remembers with their personal life. That’s all I really can say.

Watch it. It’s easily a clear winner in my library.
