Space Cowboys (2000)- Good story that does not exceed my suspension of disbelief ;) :p, about 4 old fogeys robbed of their space missions in the late 50’s, 40 years later are tasked with a mission to rescue a Russian communication satellite that’s not what it appears to be.

Real Steel (2011)- Enjoyable near future story about robot fighting starring Wolver-ah, Hugh Jackman a down and out boxer/puppet master who along with his forgotten about kid, take a antique sparring bot into the fight circuit.

I actually like this movie. While extremely predicable... it is still good imho... not the best movie ever, but enjoyable.

Out of Time (2021)- Saw this on Prime Video. Not related to the Out of Time (2003) starring Denzil Washington. Instead, this is like watching a 1950s LOW budget made for TV, B movie that could not find a network to broadcast it. Includes minimalist budget CGI. Yet I found myself watching it to the end.

Notice the quality of artwork.
Three aliens from 1950 secret govt facility, escape through a time portal to the present followed by an FBI agent. Their goal is to conquer the Earth by calling home to let the alien armada know where they are.

A true story involving Russian and English spies during the Cuban missile crisis. No standard happy ending. Nail bitting. Uplifting seeing two people with different ideaologies finding common ground in being willing to risk their lives to, using the trite phrase, "make the world a better place". I wonder what a Russian perspective would be on the movie.

The Flim Flam Man (1967)- again. This is a favorite movie of mine growing up set in the US South, a comedy about a con artist who says you can’t cheat an honest man. He takes an army deserter under his wing and they have an adventure. It’s tough to find this to watch, I’ve got it on DVD.

Val (Prime Video 2021)- Self made documentary about Val Kilmer’s life. It seems like a great insurmountable loss for him is to have lost his voice though smoking/throat cancer about 2015.

Want to see this one, although my opinion of Kilmer is rather low as he deliberely derailed films playing the prim donna. If hired to do a job you do to the best of your ability simple as that, not act your shoe size. Kilmer was dropped as he was a known PIA and that he brought on himself despite he talent...

That is addressed a bit in the documentary. It can be seen as, do you always do what you are told or do you have some creative input and there are a couple of clips of actors defending him. “I have a reputation of being difficult, but only with stupid people.” However, as a rule especially in that industry the better you get a long with your bosses, the more work you’ll get.

There is only one movie of his I’m really drawn to The Saint.

My all time favorite film is "Real Genius". I think that prepped me for a life of being a sarcastic bastard :p

The Suicide Squad (2021)- Subscribed to HBO Max for a month so 5 could watch it. I’ll just say, I’ll never own this, it’s actually got me thinking that PG13 is better. ;) I chuckled several times, but it’s not the gore that turned me off, the movie is visually impressive, but blah, just did not click for me, and I really want to like Harley Quinn and Bloodsport, but the story execution was ehh, although she had an outstanding fight scene her against many.

One quick comparison, in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Rocket sets up an ambush and just destroys to the tune of pop music, while most of this movie’s action was just numbing carnage. It’s the kind of visuals you might shocked by just one example of it, not ongoing. And I don’t need to hear “****” every 30 seconds.

I accept your disagreement in advance. :) PS, no $30 rental fee.

Bring back Cara Delevinge! lol

Sorta the opposite of Suicide Squad. All scenes in a Danish emergency dispatch center so visually bland. No visual scenes of the actual woman kidnapping emergency. You just see the dispatchers facial expressions, and hear the phone conversations as he talks to the various police agencies. So it is all in the sound, the sounds of a siren, the voices of individuals in a car, traveling noises, car doors closing. Builds up slowly until the end when we also find out what the dispatcher will be doing the next day.

You have to work at it, listen carefully, but well worth it if you like challenging movies. By the end the tension is almost unbearable.

I had watched this movie years ago but after seeing it running on cable decided to order it on blu-ray. It beat my expections, Reasons:

1. Love animals. It is the story of an extraordinary horse, with a supporting role for an interesting goose.

2. There is a lot of humor.

3. A ton of brutality, with the war and abuse of animals. But these make the scenes where exceptional individuals try to do what they can to help and protect the animals even more poignant. One extraordinary scene where an English and German Soldier come out of their trenches to help a horse caught in barbed wire in the no-mans land between their trenches. Reminds me of the Christmas truce that occurred in 1919 during World War I.

One of the few movies that I have on my 5 star list.

I like; The Doors, Heat & The Salton Sea, others too but not due to Killmer's performance. The Salton Sea I do think is one of his best performances. Yet to see Val so we'll see...:)
