Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

Where to start  Straight up this is a full on 80's gore fest. The cut versions are strong, uncut be prepared for cruel and needless violence to animals. As stated the film was extremely controversial in it's day and to many extents remains so.

One you have to make your own mind up on, personally I believe such creativity should be allowed, however with no actual harm to those involved or animals and with fair warning to the audience. Not big into the Cannibal horror film genre although I do have a favourite...

How major stars of the day is got into this one is beyond me 😆 A more coherent storyline than Cannibal Holocaust, yet equally gruesome potentially more shocking in places. I just like this one; it's a B movie, a shocker, doesn't take itself too seriously, and has that late 70's through 80's attitude of doing whatever you want for no other reason than you can :)

Also known as Slave of the Cannibal God in some territories.

Disney's Jungle Cruise (2021)- A $30 rental, 5 people in attendance (3 children) and the tally is 3👍, 2 👎. Maybe if you are an adult, and a huge blind fan of The Rock's. ;) Zero edge, mostly mindless cotton candy fun, if you like over dosing on sugar. Note, I have liked Dwayne Johnson in other movies, but not this and not the Jumanji remake. In the Jumanji remake, it was the writing I really could not stand. It was an insult to the original <opinion>. :)

Hmm this got me considering it:
I like the film, rather class it as a B movie so pay accordingly. One of those forgotten gems from the 80's, kind of feels like it has an Italian flavour to it, reminds me of Bay of Blood in some respects.

A couple caveats, I liked both the original Jumanji and the 2 remakes with The Rock. I also enjoyed him in Central Intelligence. With that said, this was an OK movie but I'm not sure it is worth the price of full admission (the other 3 members of my family loved it). My biggest problem was the following:

Disney couldn't decide if they are going upstream or downstream. In the beginning, it is implied that they are headed upstream to some unexplored region of the Amazon. In fact, The Rock's character states they are headed upstream later in the movie. However, near the beginning of the movie they head DOWN a set of rapids. How do you go DOWN a set of rapids if you are headed UPstream?

Saw a trailer for that the other day. Thought I’d rather watch some of the paint dry. Looked awful. No original ideas left in Hollywood are there?

I’m not sure what’s funnier. The lack of writing continuity by Disney, or you thinking you should put that in a spoiler preview box! :p

Have you seen "African Queen"? Bogart and Hepburn together are wonderful.

The Suicide Squad (2021)- Subscribed to HBO Max for a month so 5 could watch it. I’ll just say, I’ll never own this, it’s actually got me thinking that PG13 is better. ;) I chuckled several times, but it’s not the gore that turned me off, the movie is visually impressive, but blah, just did not click for me, and I really want to like Harley Quinn and Bloodsport, but the story execution was ehh, although she had an outstanding fight scene her against many.

One quick comparison, in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Rocket sets up an ambush and just destroys to the tune of pop music, while most of this movie’s action was just numbing carnage. It’s the kind of visuals you might shocked by just one example of it, not ongoing. And I don’t need to hear “****” every 30 seconds.

I accept your disagreement in advance. :) PS, no $30 rental fee.
Just to reaffirm my feelings regarding Marvel vs DC story telling, we watched a double feature Guardians of the Galaxy 1&2. No new revelations! :) Then the Grandkids watched Ironman 2 and Avengers: Age of Ultron. :)

Watched Reminiscence over the weekend. Wasn't to bad and I actually liked the ending. Was entertained and kept guessing throughout most of the movie.

Hugh Jackman is one of my top actors of all time, just such a passionate, emotional actor, it doesn’t matter what role he’s in, he’s very adaptable. This movie has been on my list to see recently, but finding time is the real problem here. Definitely want to tune in to this one.

Sinister (2012)

Some disturbing scenes, some jump scares here and there. A decent contemporary horror tale, I'd liked to have seen a deeper story, equally above the average. Go in with the right expectations and Sinister will be entertaining film for those into the genre.
