Creature (1998)
1634189559881.png

Technically a TV series, however presented more as two part film. Fun creature feature best not taken too seriously. Kind of miss these random leftfield films from the 80's & 90's. Stan Winston did the practical effects and really made good of a very out there idea for a monster. Acting is OK, story is way out there, might be too long for some. Still better than some recent efforts...

if planning to watch don't look at the spoiler pic, as the Creature is in many respects the star of the show.

I found a great big bug movie, Tarantula. It was made in the 1950's and can be found on Amazon video. A misguided scientist, a upstanding doctor, and a women biologist. Can they catch and kill the giant monster before it eats the town?

Another epic WW2 yarn with big names and strong performances being easily in the same class as The Guns of Navarone...

These are great, but I really like the movies that come at the end of the war, where we have already won. One of my all time cold war movies is K19 - The Widow maker. A good movie that depicts what the Soviets were willing to sacrifice in their desire to keep up with the US in the nuclear arms race. A very poor country trying to compete with a very rich one.

I've K19 in the library and many more on the same subject. Brinkmanship is what it is; very dangerous, it's not about "us" or "them" it's more about all of us. World leaders need to stop playing games as sooner or later such antics will backfire...

The nuclear disaster at Chernobyl very much levelled the field very clearly illustrating the futility of nuclear war. Had the failed reactor fully detonated the vast majority of Europe would be to this day unfit for human habitation! Nuclear war no one wins with many films illustrating the same being banned for years on end; Threads, The War Game, The Day After. Why? All too close to the truth...

Best Cold War film IMHO is The Bedford Incident, is extremely taught, tightly written, well acted. The tension is absolutely palpable throughout, it just builds and builds. The message is very clear "stop this nonsense" yet we've failed to learn :(

Speaking of which HBO did an incredible series on Chernobyl. I have it through Prime channels. If you can look it up.
Done that, seen that, superb rendition of the events in the day. I was there in the EU in 86 the alarms triggered, we mobilised all fearing the worse. If nothing else was a very levelling experience for all concerned and a lesson to be learned...

I can't even imagine how horrible that would be. I live not too far from a nuclear plant here in the Midwest states, and every now and then the thought does give me pause. It being in the States it is maintained and there have never been any issues... But just imagine being close to Russia even today with their economic woes.

Well they are not as bad as they are portraited to be with such matters taken seriously. I'm from the UK and very much struggle to connect with the western press depiction of China as it's very far from real life here...

Save your money, trust me. Black Widow isn't a terrible film by any means, however it's far from the best of the series. Should have been released several years ago with a less formulaic, more relevant script. Film tries to be too many things all at the same time, worse IMO a disservice to the main character.

Too little, too late with a weak setup at the end to facilitate yet more of the same should the box office figures pan out. Sadly Black Widow is middling at best :(

Just watched Black Widow on Disney +, thank goodness I did not spend $30 and I’m sorry you are right, what a mediocre, over the top and forgettable story. 👎🏻 Granted over the top is a personal perspective when it comes to what can be swallowed in a super hero movie. :)

It could of been much better, the gist of the Widow program, but the execution, tempo, and story details left a lot to be desired, and I did not like Taskmaster either.

Bedford Incident is stellar, it feels real and elicits a reaction, maybe a gasp or a holy ****! And as a 10 year old when I first saw it, it was also hard to get Fail Safe out of my mind. This was when we were doing meet your maker under the desk drills. :)

Halloween Kills [2021].

No spoilers

Finally watched Halloween Kills, given it was actually finalized with its filming production in 2019. But lots to talk about, some good—some bad and overall I say this movie gets a pass, but barely.

The plot is really simple, basically Michael Myers is on the loose and he escaped the burning house from the 2018 film, and now the whole city of Haddonfield is essentially searching to find and eliminate Michael.

The opening scene was actually one of the best parts of the entire movie, because they show you some flashbacks that were re-created from the earlier films from 1978. Really clever from the Director to kind of lay the groundwork for the viewers.

The movie itself with the plot is way too spread out, and can get confusing if you’re not somewhat familiarized with the previous Halloween movies ranging back from 1978 and 1981.

The acting is well… subpar. But that’s not necessarily just because of the actors, it’s just because this is what you can expect with horror movies of how they are produced today with not much talent. (And ironically, the main stars in the movie, really doesn’t have that much screen time.)

So what about the positive points about this film? The kill scenes with Michael Myers and his victims are fairly decent. They’re creative in some respects, but extremely gory, and pretty violent, but that’s what makes this movie unique. I do want to say, I think the real star of the film actually is the actor that plays Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney), he has the body language down really well, his movements, mannerisms, definitely has a intimidating presence one would expect.

I’ve always liked the Halloween theme songs they have use throughout the film, and this movie actually put a nice twist with the musical score, kinda giving it a more modernized upgrade. Really well done here.

Altogether, I do want to see how this series ends, which the third installment releases in October 2022.

Didn't impress, prefer the Rob Zombie films better. Whole film seemed like a scatter shot, is OK but seriously middling. Plenty of gore, zip suspense...
