Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)- I dislike the villain, I dislike the premise, I think I hate the plot of this movie. By the time I realized the agenda, it was just too much for my liking. ?
It was the most disappointing movie in recent memory. Bad story, bad writing, bad directing, bad acting, bad special effects/CGI... I struggle to think of a single redeeming thing about it. I loved the first movie, so I was left wondering what the heck happened.

Code 8 (2019)

"A desperate young man with special powers commits a series of petty crimes and is hunted by a militarised police force."

It was great. Never heard of it until recently, but evidently this movie did really well in the box office.

Code 8 was teased from a short film in 2016 that was used to crowd-source funding for the movie.

There is a sequel and a spin-off series in the works.

Wasn't sure what to expect since this was a crowd-sourced movie, but watching it, you wouldn't think it was a low-budget movie. It is amazing what can be done now with only a small budget.

Highly recommend.

Exactly, who thought a plot about a Make a Wish Stone could not possible by a hopeless psychedelic mess? All just to bring back Steve Trevor, the price WW Fans paid! ?

I thought NTTD was ok, if too long. They tried to cover a lot of things, and work in a lot of references, but that made for a lengthy sitting.

Bond is one of franchises where likes and expectations strongly coincide with the films one grew up watching, or most familiar with, and everyone has their favorite Bond.

Brosnan was ok. Some like the "darker" Dalton Bond. I prefer Connery and early Moore, versus the sillier later Moore. I like seeing the earlier time periods, even if some of those films have not aged well.

A lot of people like the Craig Bond, and I do recognize that it was an attempt to try something fresh, more current, and more serious, bringing some depth and humanity to the character. But while I can appreciate, and seek those things in other entertainment, it's not what I watch Bond films for. Or for that matter other franchises like Star Wars or Trek. I'd been happy with a good popcorn flick.

So, while well done, like Casino Royale, I never really warmed up to, or got enthused by the Craig era.

But it will be interesting to see what they do with the next one. The producers have had their own strong thoughts about what Bond should be, not public opinion, and I hope they continue to stick to their PPKs.

Peppermint (2018)

"Five years after her husband and daughter are killed in a senseless act of violence, a woman comes back from self-imposed exile to seek revenge against those responsible and the system that let them go free."

With a 13% Rotten Tomato score, I almost skipped this one. I am glad I didn't.

While very a formulaic revenge/action movie, it was enjoyable. Some of the acting wasn't very good, (although, not from Garner), and almost every scene could be predicted well in advance, I was invested in the character.

There could be a prequel to Peppermint, showing her time overseas. It was hinted at with a very brief montage, but it would have been nice to see what she went through, and how she returned a badass.

Another note, Rotten Tomato often has strange ratings for movies, but this particular one is off, imo. While not a great movie, and not even close, I think 13% crazy low for it when many lesser movies have much higher ratings.

I watched Shang Chi over the weekend and was not impressed. It was cool to see how it links into the MCU and sets up future events, but the overall movie just didn't have that same Marvel feel to it as prior movies.

I also watched Jungle Cruise and it was an enjoyable watch, had a very distinct old-school Disney feel like I remember from my childhood.

Patty Jenkins happened. She wrote the story and was main scriptwriter for 1984 (Not so for 2017). She took more of a hands on approach to the action in 1984 (Her DP had a lot more control on the first film as she wasn't an action director).
Yet she's directing and writing Part 3, so that's something to look forward to.

I just watched INSIDE MAN. Dir. by Spike Lee. Now I know why I have avoided it for so many years. A concept with potential let down by a very poor script and poorly directed with overtly cringey social commentary tacked on for no apparent reason that takes you out of the story. Denzel Washington was fantastic as always, but Clive Owen was pretty horrible as was the Green Goblin. It really was such a mess of a movie. Maybe it got destroyed in editing because it feels like all these different pieces were just slapped together. 2/10 and that's only for DW.

Agreed about Shang Chi - I almost forgot I watched it as it was very forgettable. Unfortunately I think the MCU may have peaked. Their future offerings seem very meh to me with a couple of exceptions (Spider-Man/Dr Strange). Without Cap and Iron Man, I don't think people are very excited any more. They really need to work some magic to top the Infinity Saga. They need characters that people love as much as Tony and Steve and I really don't see that happening. I hope I'm wrong.

I honestly think the MCU is just getting too big and complicated.
I haven't followed comics since the '70s, but my son is a big fan and seems to know most or all of the many timelines. He is loving all the nuances that are appearing in the movies. Me, I am just along for the ride.

Looking at reviews and box office intakes, it could just be you, honestly.

I personally loved Shang-Chi and saw it 3 times in the theaters.

I endured two hours of heartless, monotone dialogue. A truly heartless film, void of anything close to resembling human emotion. To call it bizarre would be playing into the pretentiousness of the whole thing. It was .... a void. What's disconcerting is that there are deep pockets that thought this was worth investing money AND time. Time that no one will ever get back. I will probably NEVER watch Tom C's ex-wife in another film. The Others was her peak.

Someone else reviewed this one a while back on here to pretty much the same conclusion.

Neither reviews or box office intake means anything to my personal opinion of a movie. I thought it was forgettable and a bottom tier MCU movie. Glad you liked it.

I wasn't trying to take away YOUR opinion of the movie. That's valid as it is your opinion. It was the rest of your post, as in that the MCU has peaked and they need and Iron Man or Cap.

The reviews and box office take show that Shang-Chi resonated with the majority of viewers and could possibly be the character they can build the next phase around.

I saw it 3 times in the theaters, once by myself, once with a friend, and the 3rd time with my family. My wife and kids had no care to see it, but went just to appease me because I liked it so much. My wife absolutely loved it. My kids also both loved it, from the visuals to the settings to the actors.

Were there issues with it, sure, as there all with MCU movies. My two biggest gripes were that Akwafina wasn't just a one movie side-kick as I am having a hard time seeing where she will fit in with all the magical, mystical, and heroic people that will be in the upcoming movies. My other was the post credit scene where his sister takes over the hand. I just don't see how after everything she saw from the corruption and knowing her brother is now a massive force for good, would actually take the head of a terrorist orginization.
