I loved the homage to the original in Young Frankenstein... The little girls says "What should we throw in now?" followed by a close up of Peter Boyle's thoughtful expression. :)

I think "Young Frankenstein" is among the best, if not the best, Brooks film. The uncredited cameo by Gene Hackman is wonderful. In fact, every performance in the film is wonderful. I've seen that thing so many times, and can do the dialogue before the actors, it's still funny to me.:D

I've got my eye on World War Z... anticipation is building. I read a preview in EW and can't figure out if the Zs are going to be slow as in Walking Dead or fast as in 28 Days After. Images seems indicate 'fast'. What's interesting is that they move like organized herds with a single objective.

Watching Forrest Gump today. Outstanding. Seems like it's on every week along with A Team. ;)

I don't think I've ever seen "The Bride of Frankenstein". I found that it's on Netflix, so its started showing now for a nice Saturday afternoon film.

I liked O'Toole in several things, especially "Beckett" and "The Lion In Winter". Again, the British acting style is not as naturalistic as the modern American style, but in many films, being a little more "stagey" is OK.

I agree about the whole business of cutting "epics" into 3 movies. More Money that way, I guess. Not good for the art, but commerce prevails.

And while we do disagree about Newman, I should say I have enjoyed many of his films, no matter what my opinion of his acting skills. I mean, you had to like "Cool Hand Luke". Great art...nah. Great acting...nah. But a very entertaining film, all the same.

I really love this thread. It helps me discover unknown gems of films that I hadn't seen or heard of before. I am now starting Becket based on your testimony of Peter O'Toole.

I know this thread is about "movies", but I am right now watching a documentary called "In The Shadow Of Motown". It's about The Funk Brothers, who made the music for EVERYBODY at Motown Records.

The music is UNBELIEVABLE!!! It takes me back to college!!

No more, gotta watch!!:D

Fascinatingly ironic as I spent the day in Motown today!

I love the music of Motown....and some years ago, bought a boxed set of six CDs of Motown Classics......

I've never been, but it is a place I would like to visit some day.......

It's pretty entertaining. It's supposed to be a biopic, but as with many biopics, apparently there were some pretty big liberties taken with the truth.

Enjoyable nonetheless, IMO.

It's also another Miguel Sandoval movie. Pure coincidence that I watched a flick yesterday with him in it.

I like him a lot. I think he's a good character actor, and I'm partial to character actors.:D

He is a good actor, though he had a very small roll in Blow.

On a separate note, while visiting the IMDB, I saw that there is a new Vin Diesel movie, Riddick scheduled to be released in September. I really liked Pitch Black, and the Chronicles of Riddick. I hope this third one will be just as good.

Having bit of a duvet day. Had to hit the morphine this morning, so its me, duvet, kittys and Alien: Directors cut on the apple TV.

Great movie indeed one of my all time favourites - I shall follow it with Howard the Duck; another favourite of mine.

C'yall later

Have anyone watch the latest G.I. Joe: Retaliation(2013) ? Want to see it in theater. Thanks for your nice suggestion.

Watched Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders for the first time. New young actors C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, and Tom Cruise!

I saw the Croods with the family over the weekend. A harmless piece of fluff that my girlies enjoyed watching. I was a bit disappointed, other animated movies have done a better job with the story-line.

"Young Frankenstein" will always have a warm spot in my heart. There are just so many great lines. I just watched "The History of the World Part I", and although funny, it's just not as funny.

Yesterday, I watched "Super 8". It's been on my list for a while, and I thought it was pretty good.

Prior to that, my wife bought "The Hobbit" sight unseen. I had a little trouble buying Watson as Bilbo, but he's a good actor, so I went along with it. Just two more episodes to go...

You and me both, the scene of "Putting On The Ritz" still gets me laughing to this day. My wife hates watching it with because I start laughing before the scene comes up and I can't stop. I don't know that scene has always struck a cord with me!

You and me both, from the looks of it, they are going to be fast, faster than the 28 days later zombie. I know the footage is early footage but I hope they clean it up a bit and make them just a we bit more lifelike. There was a lot of CG in the images and one could tell it was CG.

But none the less I really want to see this!

It's a great scene in part, at least, because it's such a spot on parody of classic movie musicals.

BTW: please forgive the correction (it's so snotty of me), but it's "Putting On The Ritz" - 1929 song written by Irving Berlin.

Sorry to be a jerk...

Edit: Currently watching 1934 "You Can't Buy Everything". I haven't seen it before! May Robson is terrific!
