It's a great scene in part, at least, because it's such a spot on parody of classic movie musicals.

BTW: please forgive the correction (it's so snotty of me), but it's "Putting On The Ritz" - 1929 song written by Irving Berlin.

Sorry to be a jerk...

Edit: Currently watching 1934 "You Can't Buy Everything". I haven't seen it before! May Robson is terrific!

LOL... you are correct, putting on the ritz,, ha I was laughing when I wrote this and for some reason it didn't look right... fixed it!

Ha.

A 1947 film noir..."Born To Kill".

Lawrence Tierney at his nasty best. Apparently he was as nasty in real life. His career died because of his drinking, and especially his arrests for violence.

He appeared on "Seinfeld" once, as Elaine's father. He was supposed to be a recurring character, but he scared everyone on the show so much, they never had him back. He was a violent and scary guy...but is terrific in this film.

Today, Jess Franco passed away.

:(

Sorry to be ignorant (as if I could help it!), but who is Jess Franco? What films was he in?

Jesús Franco. Not sure if you've seen some (b-) movies directed by him, but I'd be surprised if not (given that you've mentioned watching Ed Wood stuff sometimes). Vampyros Lesbos probably his best known, he also made some Christopher Lee/Fu Manchu movies. I have to watch more of him (Dr. Z or Orloff, he made ~200 movies). Highly dedicated director.

Thanks, Mate.:D

I'll look for his stuff. It sounds like high quality camp!

It really is! Apparently, he moved from Spain to France in the 70s to go more exhibitionist and 'nude' in his movies. That's what I call true dedication! :D

He was probably the first to include Nazi-Zombies in his movies. What would be the world as we know it be like without him?? Well, I myself created the Stasi-Nazis for what it's worth...

Well, I'm far from knowing his work, but read interesting things especially about the Dr. Z and Dr. Orloff movies. Vampyros Lesbos is a classic, though.

Just arrived in the post. A cult classic.

In 2003 I was at the Pittsburg Comic Convention when the 25th anniversary came. I got to see the actual shopping mall, it has changed but you can still find some parts that have remained the same.

Just curious, that's the BluRay you got? Because the one available in Germany has a) different cover and b) different, inferior content like 'bad' sound, some cutted scenes and no bonus features, I tried to order it in England several times (Amazon.co.uk). They have a different cover as well and won't ship it to me. :( Yours looks like the US version...where did you order if I may ask?

It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but vividly remember, The Left 4 Dead (video game) mall chapter, Dead Center. Has there been more than 1 zombie movie with a mall scene (I wonder)?

I ordered via my account by Amazon.com. I have been a registered user since 1997.

When I started ordering items via the internet there was only the American sites, hence I have accounts for e-bay and Amazon both registered in the USA.

Olympus Has Fallen.

It was a bit farfetched, but it was a thoroughly entertaining 2 hours. I think there's a similar movie coming out soon with Channing Tatum?

I watched Zero Dark Thirty last night with my wife and daughter who was home on spring break. It was interesting, but slow in some parts.

I watched JCVD yesterday, and thought it was well worth mentioning, to keep going the conversation about the badass good/bad actors.

I never thought I'd say this, but Van Damme is a pretty darn good actor, when it comes to playing... himself !
It's a small budget Belgian film, and Van Damme plays the real life Van Damme (very sad to see) in the kind of situation his usual characters would face in a movie. He is stuck in a bank robbery situation.
It's probably hard to find in the US, but I have to say, it's very good (and I'm the kind of people who cannot see a regular JCVD eighties movie without yawning).

I went to see Oz the Great and Powerful with my family yesterday.

It was a fun movie, nothing really special but it moved along nicely. Great cast too, getting Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams involved must have taken some doing.

I didn't see it in 3D though, and it seemed worse for it. A lot of the sweeping shots were too out of focus, something common in 3D when you are just meant to focus on one particular element. Shame really.

I tried to watch "Hop". Apparently, this was the second time my family has rented it. I turned it off before it finished. At some point, they had David Hasselhoff. He was neither Night Rider, nor the Baywatch guy. That was the best part I saw. The rest was worse. Hopefully, I'll remember that I shouldn't try to see it again. Ever.

Saw a pretty disturbing picture at the cinema yesterday. The Hunt with Mads Mikkelsen. So good but one of those pieces you'd actually prefer watching Zoolander right after finishing it.

Saw the 2003 Zatoichi movie again and I'm now starting with the 26 original films (saw the first one already).
About twenty years ago I saw a few of them on MTV Europe's Asiamania broadcasts and I liked the performance of Shintaro Katsu.

Still looking around for the 100 episodes of the Zatoichi television series (original run 1972-1974).

When watching old Asiamania movies, I'll get some take-away sushi and sake to complement the experience, so after this I will have book an appointment at the Betty Ford Clinic to lose my addiction for sushi and sake :D

I saw Jurassic Park 3D today. I have never gone to see a 3D showing before, but JP is one of my all time favorite movies and I didn't get to see it in theater the first time around.

Oh, and it was only in this viewing that I noticed how the scenes in the control room where prophetic in they they were running a "Unix system" on Macs! :p

I started watching The Hobbit last night, and while it was very good, I couldn't stay awake and had to stop it after an hour. I'll watch the rest of it today. The HD iTunes download size was over 6GB for a 3 hour movie!

hehe... I am rewatching Harry Potter series from the beginning... To be honest the first four were the best of the series and after that.. not really sure :/ but I AM going to finish the series by tomorrow x)

Some good Winding Refn movies: Pusher yesterday and just finished Valhalla Rising right now. Griping movies (both starring Mads Mikkelsen, in Pusher, I think his debut on screen, he even had a fat respect tattoo on his bald head). Great director, Valhalla Rising is some king of Bergmann meets Tarkovsky meets Tarantino flic. Quite tempted to continue with Bronson...

Well, Bronson is cool, too. :D Highly stylized, though. Some fav scenes: Tom Hardy having a dialougue on stage with himself and party of drugged looneys dancing to The Pet Shop Boys in the nuthouse.

Brilliant soundrack with a really cool main theme by Glass Candy. Wish they'd have done the one for Drive, too.

One of the commercial channels here played "The Day of the Jackal" the original 1973.

Because of the commercial breaks, I always record and then edit them out.

I remember this film when it first came out, I thought it great then, and I still do. The whole film was very understated, a far cry from video game orientated films of today.:(

I really like Edward Fox as the suave hired killer.
