My brother recommended Ronin, with DeNiro and Jean Reno. Unfortunately, Netflix doesn't have it. :(
Fortunately I dont have Netflix LOL...

More mercenary action...

Q-6

Were the guys at Benghazi mercenaries? I thought they were US soldiers stationed there to protect the embassy? I guess one could say they were attacked by mercenaries.

I really wanted to like Extraction but the sound was so up and down that I couldn't enjoy it that much. As I recall the gunfire and explosions were really loud and the dialogue was muffled and very low.

IMHO Dogs of War is the very least of these films.

All in all pretty good stuff, again, IMHO.

I have fond memories of Grumpy Old Men (1993) and it’s sequel Grumpier Old Men (1995) partially because they were filmed in Minnesota, where I lived longer than any other place, I like the cast, the setting, and the story.

Contractors, there's a distinct difference. Generally skilled ex military hired on for a job that government's dont want to be seen being overly close too.

Dark of the Sun nails it. Your paid and paid well, but you live with your own demons...

Recently watch Black Panther Wakanda Forever.

Pretty meh, I think Marvel is heading down the path Star Wars, and Fast and Furious have been going, which is to out do the previous movies, and stuff more action etc or as much as possible, making a senseless mess.
Namor was interesting though.

Training Day (2001)- This movie is brilliant and hard to watch. An idealistic new officer to an undercover crime unit is broken in by a veteran officer (Denzel Washington) who is fast and loose with the law, claiming the new guy has to keep his eye on the big picture, and you spend the first hour wondering what is what, before…everything goes sideways.

Really good, never get's old. Some great characters with equally good development...

..another oldie but still a goodie:
The dirty dozen

..which lead me on to watch these:

..which ok are not movies, just grim insane reality.
😍 for Dirty Dozen. :)
Some other fav WWII:
  • Kelly’s Heroes
  • Where Eagles Dare
  • Guns of Navorone
  • The Blue Max
  • In Harms Way
  • Longest Day
  • more recently, I enjoyed Saving Private Ryan too. This film does a good job illustrating the horror and pain of war, and the damage it does to human beings beyond the physical damage.

Luckily German is one of the languages I speak very well so I don't need to listen to it in english.... I'm halfway and it is a very visceral movie.

Same here, I lived in Germany for over 15 years so I'm good with the language. Kind of funny as my brother in law is natively German. His wife is Chinese as is my wife who is very classically & traditional Han Chinese. We'll switch into German which can be a lot of fun at times LOL...

Foreign language films I always watch in the native language, bad French, worse Italian, little Tagalog, some Malay. Chinese is still bad after over 20 years, but makes for a very interesting life...

I'm preparing to watch Predestination with a friend who has never seen it before. This'll be my eighth time watching it with a newbie. I enjoy observing their reaction to the wonderfully ingenious plot.

I read the original story, "All you Zombies", by Robert Heinlein, over sixty years ago. It was one of those little gems that have stayed in my mind since then.

Look it up and read it. I believe it is one of his best stories, as crisp and clear and succinct as anything by Hemingway.

I've read it. And that's why the movie dialog includes the phrase "all you zombies" even though it doesn't make particular sense there.
